See the following newspaper report:-

Democratic presidential candidate Beto O’Rourke sounded the alarms on Monday, saying that civilization has only “ten years” left on Earth if no action is taken on climate change.

The former Texas congressman unveiled the first major policy proposal of his candidacy, which is a climate change initiative that would cost $5 trillion in over 10 years in hopes of reaching zero carbon emissions by 2050.

Appearing on MSNBC, O'Rourke promoted his proposal but was asked about his prior support from the oil and gas industry, and whether the relationship would be a problem going forward.

O'Rourke responded "yes," but said he is optimistic that the industry will take part in his initiative.

"We know that certain oil and gas corporations have been fighting public policy on this issue, have been hiding their own science and research at the expense of our climate and human life," O'Rourke told Hayes. "So whenever those two things come in contrast or in opposition, I'm always going to choose the people of this country."

"Having said that, I want to make sure those who work in the oil and gas industry, those who work in the fossil fuel industry are brought along as partners to make sure that we make this transition in the ten years we have left to us as the science and scientists tell us to make the kind of bold change that we need," the former congressman continued.

"We cannot afford to alienate a significant part of this country and we cannot do this by half measure or by only half of us. It can't be Democrats versus Republicans, bit cities versus small towns, we all have a shared interest in a cleaner future for this country. So I'm going to work with, listen to everyone anytime, anywhere to make sure that we advance this agenda and get to net zero green house gas emissions by 2050."

This is the type of thinking that leads to total moronism - it just cannot work.   The problem is that the world is over-populated compared to what it used to be.   The countries like China and India are causing more environmental problems than the USA and  Western Europe.

Nice to try and save the world - but that would not change the conditions in China and India and they and the Russians will laugh their arses off when  the crazy ideas of politicians  like O'Rourke dent or destroy the US economy.

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez gave the world thirteen years and she also want to  kill off all cows because they fart too much and pollute the environment - but O'Rourke apparently want to beat her craziness by reducing it to 11 years.

Anybody still believing in made made climate change after all the evidence to the contrary and the way in which the Paris Climate Change Treaty allows india and China to pollute at will but results in Europe and the USA footing the bill must be extremely stupid - on a level of these grunt futticks believing in the archaic Darwinism despite current scientific knowledge.

Thank goodness Trump is forming a body to combat climate change alarmism!!! After that loon Al Gore and all his absurd predictions crashing one would think that nobody would be taken in by these lying globalist scumbags. However they do a great job indoctrinating the children so that is where there needs to be a big change. Kick these marxist/ globalist anti American clowns out of academia.

Beeno

Beto's mother is a Latino and he obviously has to reach lunacy without regard to fact.   The Democrats cannot fault most aspects of Trump's policy and for that reason they -

*    started a witch hunt against Trump based on BS about the Russian involvement in US elections' and

*    scaremongering about climate change over which the USA on its own has little control while countries like China, India and Russia will not submit themselves to the rules they want to implement in the USA.

Mike please check. Her maiden name was Williams and in fact the Latinos resented him trying to pass himself off as Latino.

Google it and see for yourself.

Anyhow this far left radical wants all fencing/wall on the border taken down.

He is done.

Convert to recycled energy is the buzz message nowadays. But nobody says how it should be done.

Some additional reading:

The Green New Deal, as supported by most Democrats, envisions a U.S. power consumption market that is 100% served by renewable energy sources - primarily solar and wind renewables.

Is it hypothetically possible that either solar or wind, or some combination of the two, could deliver 100% of U.S. energy needs in the future?

Sure, but in reality it would not be practical, nor achievable, nor a desired outcome.

A very gigantic stumbling block to either wind or solar are the ludicrously huge land space requirements that are essentially insurmountable.

Using the total U.S. power 2017 consumption (estimated) as the goal to be met, either the wind or solar solutions would need to be able to generate 97.7 'quads' (97.7 quadrillion BTUs) on a yearly basis. That BTU figure converts toapproximately 28,633 annual terrawatts, which in turn translates to an annual 28,633,000,000,000,000 watts consumed.

As the adjacent graphic indicates, whether it's a 100% wind renewable solution or a 100% solar solution, the approximate space needed in the continental U.S. would be astronomical for either, making these energy solutions politically and economically nonviable.

In contrast, even with current reactor technology, the land requirement for a nuclear solution (see green-filled rectangle on map) is a physical sliver of either solar or wind needs. In fact, the land needed by nuclear would amount to an approximate space as small as Connecticut.

And if the U.S. were to pursue a Gen-IV nuclear technology solution, such as molten salt reactors, the new reactors could be placed on the existing nuclear plant sites to use the old radioactive waste as fuel that is currently being stored at nuclear sites. Yes, Gen-IV technology can consume the old stored waste as fuel.

And because nuclear facilities produce energy 24/7/365, they do not require the same natural gas, pumped storage, or battery storage back up capability that wind and solar require, due to their being intermittent sources of energy. (The method of back up needed by renewables will also add to the the total land area requirements, which is not depicted on map image.)

Then there is the issue of new electrical transmission lines to be constructed. Because of geographical size of the solar/wind options, the number of new transmission lines to serve all the different wind/solar energy farms will be multiple times more than that required by the nuclear option.

Finally, as a plus, the Gen-IV technology is safe from melt down or potential containment vessel explosions due to its inherent design fundamentals. Conceivably, due to less risk, the total land needed for such technology might end up being less than the older nuclear plant sites.

Due to land requirements alone, it would behoove politicians of both parties to plan for and promote an industry standard design of the Gen-IV reactor technology to be adopted and installed as quickly as possible. It should become the nation's major source of electricity generation, along with smaller installations of solar and wind where locations favor their utilization - i.e., the sunny and windy regions.

Interesting article Blikkies. Nuclear should be the core of electricity production.....aided by wind and solar where it makes economic sense. Gas and oil are needed for air transportation and to fuel the imbedded applications that can't be changed quickly without massive economic risk. So the logical answer if you believe in the warming scare or think oil needs to be preserved forthe future, is build nuclear. Germany of course did exactly the opposite and now has some of the highest energy costs in the world. This Green New Deal looks like lunacy, but look at Germany, lunacy sometimes becomes reality.

Germany is bordering on recession. Once again anybody thinking the German elites don't know the consequences of their green deal are exceedingly naive.

You don't destroy nation states by making them prosperous. You run them down. Exactly what frau Merkel has been trying to do. Importing millions to live on social welfare is also a great plan if you know the real purpose.

Mozart

They are developing wind and sun electricity as an electric energy source - it is especially widespread in the Cape area,   However, it would be impossible too provide for 100% of supply through that sources be it in any country/.

Lets face facts - although he idea seems theoretically possible it is practically impossible.   Part of the problem is the impossibly high cost of replacing present energy sources with nuclear and renewable energy sources.

The New Green Deal is determined to do other things as well that is economically destructive.   The idea is about as mad as can be.   Russia, China and India are no fools and they would love to destroy the USA economically and the USA and Western Europe will s elf-destruct as economic leaders in the world.

Socialist ideas are normally self-destructive  and this is nothing new.

The USA has a fifth column working internally to destroy the country. The huge 22 trillion national debt is no accident.

How silly to think these elites ruling the country have no idea what they are doing.

Yep the Green New Deal is just the latest version of the fight that started at the Industrial Revolution. A simple idea is to use nuclear to produce the electricity to fuel electric car fleets in the big cities. Won't make any difference to temperatures.....but helps save oil, our most valuable commodity.
