Apparently Powell is surprised by inflation.
One can’t make this nonsense up.
They print trillions of dollars…claim that the resulting inflation is transitory…inflation reaches 40 year highs and prices skyrocket to historic levels…and now Powell claims that they’re ever so surprised by how this has turned out.
This despite all of financial and crypto Twitter commentators warning for the last 18 months that inflation was out of control.
The kicker is that actual inflation far far higher than the 8-10% most first world countries are reporting.
It’s impossible to not be extremely cynical about all of this.
PS Seb, it’s a fantastic time to be dollar cost averaging into crypto at the moment.
BTC, ETH, SOL, FTM are all very solid picks and even if they drawn down another 50%, in 18 months you’ll still make a killing on what you buy now.

You could be right Plum but I'm still wary as the entire world monetary system seems to be heading to eventual collapse of dollar hegemony. The war would also spur the adoption of digital finance, from cryptocurrencies to stablecoins and central bank digital currencies.
I'm not sold on crypto yet.

Large draw downs in crypto are normal, Seb.
It’s occurred in every cycle.
If you invest for the long term then just buy and forget.
If you’re looking to ride cycles, it’s pretty easy really…buy the fear and sell the greed.
The question is whether it’s a useful technology and whether it will be adopted?
And for me, the answer is yes;
*it’s seeing adoption across many sectors and the network effects are outstripping anything that came before…even the internet.
*the potential for as yet unknown use-cases is large…very large!
*it is the most secure trustless technology we have…perhaps quantum encryption is better but it may be a few decades, or centuries, before I-phone Quantum is available for purchase.
*it addresses problems and markets that current technologies aren’t sufficiently able to.
Each of those off-the-cuff bulletpoints above could be the subject of very long essays.
Central bank digital currencies are only digitised versions of money…they’re simply using blockchains to solve the double-spend problem. Most money already exists as digital currency. The use cases for crypto stretch far beyond monetary transactions.
The fact that countries are developing their own digital currencies is evidence to the fact that they understand the inherent value of blockchain. It’s really just like banks began using computers when they were invented.
Blockchain solves problems in the financial sector but it also solves problems is most other sectors. Since it does not only sit in one sector, it’s very difficult for established players in particular sectors to control or fight it. Particularly when it can streamline activities within sectors while making it easier for different sectors to deal with each other too.
The crypto bull market that follows this global drawdown is going to melt faces. My hope is that as many people as possible can benefit from it.
Let’s see if i’m right.
