Apparently the 36 year old man and his wife went to Italy  for a holiday in a tour group of ten people.  When he got back in SA he developed a sore throat and went to see his doctor.  The latter took some samples and sent it for testing and i t came back positive.

So far the man and his wife - as well as his two children has been put in isolation - also the doctor who took the samples,.  They are trying to find the rest of the tour group as well.

Bad news - but it must be realized that it is virtually impossible to isolate any county in the worlld

What a horrible downer this virus is. Why anybody would get on a cruise ship now is beyond comprehension. Floating petri dishes.

Old toppies like us are at risk Mike. It’s a good time to potter around in your garden and avoid public places.

Yes, it seems the Mexicans Beer Virus discriminates proportionately heavily against 50+...exponentially so....stay safe people.

Wear a mask and wash your hands thoroughly with hot water and Dawn dishwashing soap for about a minute or as long as it takes you to sing"Happy Birthday."

Plus stay away from crowds and public places is the advice offered by the Washington State Medical authorities.

Yes, I also fall into that "Old Toppies" category, unfortunately.

Over here the first case reported was only about 2-3 miles from where I live. We are up to 6 cases now and 3 more in Northern Ireland, looks like all of them are Irish people who have returned from the affected regions of Northern Italy.

I was due to go to Italy in mid April for the Connacht-Benetton rugby match but unless the situation drastically improves it won't be happening.

I don't think this can be contained just a matter of damage limitation. Not too concerned for myself as I'm in pretty good health but I'm a little concerned for older family members.

@mozart

Why would anyone go on a cruise ship? Many reasons, its a holiday that allows you to visit multiple sometimes far away locations and while your travelling between them you can relax. They can also be excellent value for money in terms of food and drink.

I've been on maybe 7 or 8 and I've never had any issues with viral outbreaks. My folks have been on close to 40 and they also never had issues with viral outbreaks on any of their cruises. Of course there has been viral outbreaks on cruise ships like vomiting bugs where people have been confined to their cabins but the vast majority of cruises don't get these.

Everyone has different tastes of course. I couldn't stand a holiday were people just lounge around their hotel swimming pool for a week.

Just donated my Madam Butterfly tickets for Saturday night ...bought the DVD of a Met Butterfly performance. So on Saturday night, rather than making the long drive into Chicago through traffic I’ll be in my theatre room watching Puccini with a nice bottle of Frog vino.

There are plusses.

Stav  I wasn’t clear, I meant going on a cruise ship now. I actually thoroughly enjoyed the Adriatic/Aegean cruise we did....it’s great waking up in a new port every day. And cruising down the Grand Canal in Venice with that high vantage point was memorable.

That said, now is not the time.

The only public places I go to nowadays are shops and for the rest I mostly stay at home and be a pest on the computer and watch sport shows on TV,  .   I am not going to any public meetings at all, so my contact with potential carriers are near to zero.

This can't be contained or avoided...we need to be prepared to treat the most vulnerable to the best of our ability...wasting resources on trying to contain this is stupid.

Yes moz, we the old toppies are in the frontline, but I think those of us who smoked in their life are one step closer.

I hope that this virus is held back by the last bit of summer in our area (flu viruses dislike summer conditions).

Blikkies each month buys a bit more time....ultimately to get a vaccine, but in the short run to clarify treatment. And hopefully you guys have a hot autumn.......take care!

Like Blikkies said Viruses are usually the most strong at the change of the seasons, at the start of winter and spring.
In the UK the cold and flue always go around in November as the temperature makes a sudden drop. Then again in March when the temperature starts to change again.
When it starts to warm up it will probably kill the virus. (hopefully).
I take a flue jab each season and I find it helps prevent me from getting a cold or the flue. Sometimes the flue can start as a cold and become an infection.
If the flue jab was mandatory for everyone, then it might help prevent the spread of all the variants of flue.

I also get a flu jab in late November each year and it does help.

But two years ago after receiving my annual flu shot, I was as sick as a dog for 7-8 weeks and it was attributed to the shot by our SA Doctor.

My wife cannot have the flu shot as she is allergic to it.

So mandatory flu shots are an issue for some folks.

I think that this virus is going to spread rapidly throughout Africa with devastating consequences for life and economies.

I pray that I am wrong.

So the virus hit the wealthy first,   There are indications that the first identified case was in Hilton and contacts in the Mount Edgecombe Country Club - especially the ten people on holiday in Italy.

No Mike, closer to 20% they say...still terribly high though. Would be a disaster.

Some points to ponder.

There is no dou t now this issue has been politicized by the globalist demonrats in the USA and the globalist controlled WHO.

Objective of these nutjobs is to cause as much chaos as possible hoping it will bring down Trump.

Needless to say all their a to Trump BS  is yet again backfiring.

Next the facts. A sample of 200,000 people in South Korea was done whereby all were tested for the Coronavirus. There were a number of people who were found who had the Coronavirus but were barely sick.

However what this showed was thst the death ration of those infected was 0.7%.

Yhr top virologist this was only slightly more than the flu!

Regarding the MSM hype the Doctor then noted the reaction of the MSM  to other more deadly viruses that had appeared in recent years. There was none of this panic creating reporting.

In April the UK will be conducting human trials regarding the vaccine they have made.

Yes the Coronavirus likes cool weather and low humidity. Just like any flu.

Any mutations will have next to zero effects.

In my opinion various vaccines could be out sooner than expected.

The stock markets will probably fluctuate for a few more months but things will return to normal probably by November.

Trump will be reelected in a landslide.

Now I acknowledge that ONLY God knows the future. These are merely my opinions on what I think is likely. We shall see.

What is absolutely certain is the MSM is ignoring facts and past history. They are part of the problem as per usual.

Make jabs mandatory. That's not the beginning of an Orwellian nightmare .

Ok Plum, so just ignore the problem - and allow more people to die.

Arthur John at least provided an argument to reasons why it cant be mandatory for everyone . You provide Beeno globalist conspiracies.

I've got a cousin in China. He and his daughter were just here for a month. They went back Thursday...The West won't be able to repeat the measures China put in place...and it still spread. This will run it's course.

Shark,

"Ok Plum, so just ignore the problem - and allow more people to die."

What I understand from what you just said is that failure to compel is equal to failure to act.

Now, I'm sure you can see the irony in that - being your response to me suggesting those types of policies are Orwellian and lead nowhere good.

Exactly why it's so dangerous.

Compulsion in some situations seems like the best idea, that is, until it creates a precedent for further compulsion. Next thing you'll be compelled to screen your sperm for genetic defects. Then it'll be inhumane to have natural children as the artificials will always have an edge over them.

Ridiculous?

Remember when it was a bad idea to swat your kid? Now you're compelled not to do it. Seen young people lately? They're riddled with problems and having more interaction with health services than ever before. Depression, body dysmorphia, suicide, schizophrenia and on and on, it's all rising.

Here...note of how rates in adults are unchanged.

https://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2019/03/190315110908.htm

How about school vs parents rights over the last twenty years? Remember when the balance shifted? Was at about the time when you'd suddenly get arrested for smacking a little shit when he was being naughty.

It's a slippery slope or the proverbial frog in boiling water even, Shark.
