Liberals have claimed that their society is special as supposedly nobody is above the law. All ordinary citizens under the same rule of law.
The fact that the King of England was above the law was one of the main reproach liberals addressed.
While it is correct that a KIng was above the law, nobody else was, an examination of liberal societies show that they in fact extended the condition to many other people, be it officials in charge or criminals in exchange of services.
The reelection of DJT could bring another dimension.
A US president when in office is above the law and can not be treated as an ordinary citizen.
DJT committed antics as he was in the oval office. He also committed antics once out as an ordinary citizen outside the protected presidential status.
Once reelected, and that is the stake, DJT could clear charges by perdoning himself.
And that is the stake. Liberals would hide by claiming the charges were made up by the opposition, the other side.
Now, will it happen, probably not. DJT's personality is flippant but the stake is so crushing that even himself, he would prefer to put faith in the institution of justice unbiasedness.
Liberals can not afford in the current world context to expose themselves as they would as a criminally charged dude uses the position of president to clear charges.
Liberams have not liberalized the world enough to afford the move.
