Agreed DA. Have we ever heard the left on this Board criticize one of their own, have we ever heard them give Trump credit for anything. This  blind antipathy characterizes the Left in general, there is no middle ground for these zealots…it’s their way or the highway.

Trump: Should We Be Scared? review – no, we should be absolutely terrified

Judging by these interviews with the Donald’s fans about everything from a national abortion ban to immigration, the future of the US looks unstable at best. But why the lack of pushback?

Lucy ManganMon 9 Sep 2024 23.05 BST

The title of Matt Frei’s latest documentary is Trump: Should We Be Scared? You probably know the short answer. This is the longer one. Frei, a journalist and presenter for Channel 4 and its former Washington correspondent, roams through Miami, Florida and Washington DC talking mostly to the Donald’s fans in the former and to people still blinking in shock at their exposure to him during his presidency in the latter.

The fans include rightwing Christians prepared to overlook the multiple marriages, being found liable for sexual abuse and assorted other events not in keeping with biblical recommendations because, as Frank López, a pastor, businessman and founder of the evangelical Iglesia Doral Jesus Worship Center in the Sunshine State, says: “He has a vision of America I like.” “I feel God is with him,” says another fervent Christian. “He fears the Lord.” A video made by some of the 45th president’s supporters assures viewers: “God made Trump.”

Presumably what they mean is that he serves their vision of a country without reproductive rights for women. Following his first term, Roe v Wade was overturned by a US supreme court to which he had appointed three justices, ending the constitutional right to terminate unwanted pregnancies and allowing states to enact laws that made the procedure almost impossible to access. A second term would pave the way for a national abortion ban. López hopes all federal funding will be blocked. “They call it ‘healthcare’,” says López. “But there is no sickness in pregnancy.”

The Latin American community he speaks to, which includes 36 million voters across the US, approve of Trump’s hardline approach to immigration. The host of a popular Hispanic radio show in Miami explains to Frei that many members come from countries ruined by dictators and they don’t want to see the same thing happen in the US and – although it’s not quite made clear how – they evidently consider that a Democrat win would increase the chances. Callers to the show cite their own contributions to society after coming here legally and are not welcoming to people who arrive illegally and whom they think will deplete the resources of their new home.

Yareliz Méndez-Zamora, who works for the Florida Immigrant Coalition supporting recent arrivals to the US, says this is the result of Trump’s highly effective fear-based narratives (“‘Sending their worst …’, ‘Poisoning the blood of this country’,” she quotes. “There’s a lot of white nationalism”). Méndez-Zamora fears that a second term would see the beginnings of mass deportation, raids and further, deeper division between races and communities being sown by the president and his government.

Over in Washington, Fiona Hill, an adviser on Russia to George W Bush, Barack Obama and Trump, calls Trump a canny politician who knows how to tap into people’s grievances and appeal to their worst instincts “instead of their better angels”, who “presided over an insurrection”, polarised the political system and is “an incredibly flawed candidate”. She believes a second pro-Putin term would be a disaster for Ukraine in particular and western security generally, in terms of an increased nuclear threat and the encouragement of Putin’s disregard for European borders.

What else, what else? Perhaps the fact that Trump has already made all election results questionable and answerable with violence? Or that this time around his entourage seems to have a slight clue what they are doing and Trump’s populist instinct married to some(one else’s) tactical and strategic intelligence would make him even more dangerously effective? Or that his former national security adviser John Bolton says he was there when the president came within “a hair’s breadth” of withdrawing from Nato in 2018 and is doubtless champing at the bit to finish the job? Or the fact that Trump is a vehement climate crisis denier? Or that he would go into a second term protected by the ruling his conservative-stuffed supreme court handed down during the first, that the president of the United States has immunity from criminal prosecution?

In covering so much ground, Frei sacrifices the ability to dig deeper into any of it. You long for him to push back on the radio host’s dictator comment. How does Trump not look like one? How does Joe Biden – or Kamala Harris – look like the greater threat? The programme also feels slightly out of date, as the Harris/Walz team continues, on the face of it at least, to gain momentum. And it would be good to have been given a better sense of which of Trump’s second term actions are possible, probable and merely technically feasible, plus a more detailed take on how likely a second term is.

But as a reminder that the US is essentially 50 different countries masquerading as one – like children in an adult trenchcoat and about as unstable – that could easily prefer to be led by a man just as unpredictable, it works almost too well. I find myself Googling “apocalypse-proof bunkers” after it ends. Most of the good ones are in the US. I don’t know where we go next.

Another Guardian article = you will never learn - they are worse than  Goebbels and for them the specialist brainwashing rag is soreading of the same lies hoping that in then idiots believe the fact the lies are truths,   I sometimes wonder whether  the journalists themsekves realise they are spreading VS?   .

By the way the issues are not supposed to be scaremongering - but what should be done to save the country from the total and disastrous mess Biden and Harris made of the country;   Trump is no racist and during his presidncy did morw for the Black and Hispanic communities than the Dem ocrats dod in thorty years,   That is why the support of TRump os very cometitive iro male voters as 48%  suporing him - while 33% of the females also support Trump.  Does that make him a eacist?

Blob he was President for 4 years and none of those things happened. We are faced with an agonizing choice here, but Trump has lived in the real world, dealt with decision makers for decades. Can you really imagine Harris going off script with Putin. The much more dangerous thing is to allow a committee of Harris picks to run the free world….she won’t be doing it.

Let's do yet another exercise... Take Blo's article. Extract every disparaging comment against the subject of the article. I haven't read it so have no idea who the person is or what the article says. But I'm gonna guess that there are numerous references as to what a crazy, evil, misguided, etc etc person she is how this, by default, makes Trump x, y and z...and is concerning for soooo many reasons. Ok cool. Now go and find an article where the BBC does the same to ANY left leaning politician, celebrity or social media influences. Allow me to fast forward you to the solution. In order to fulfil the mandate, you'll only find such a BBC article if it's about an actual criminal(murder, rapist, etc) but never about a left leaning person who is only guilty of having their own views. Let's try another small exercise. See how many BBC articles you can find where they accuse someone of being "far left" or of being associated with "far left extremists". lol Blo, you really are lost.

There are two types of people. People with the intelligence to see through Bozo's bullshit and people who are stupid enough to suck it up.

Bozo is not just a failure in business, he's a failure as a human being.

The story about leis came from when he was President.    Every tme TRump said anything on policy issues he emdia did nt like he was accused by them of lying.    It obviously was BS.   In the case of te Russian Hoax  three investigations were held and the trid one under Huxham found that the lies f Russian Collusion was started and kept alive by the Clinton campaign, the DNC nd most importantly the Obama Administratin through usage of the FBI and CIA .   The latter spread lie o the media.

The FBI used a false docuent - which hey know was utter BS concocted for Clinton by Steele to get FS Court approval to spy n the Trump 2016 election campaign.   The results were bad for the FBI especilly and in the Justce Department an Obama senior fficial was sentenced to a 10 jail senence for lyng to the Court.   The Court also sntenced the FBI to pay for the court costs.   When it came out later the same FBI heads used the FBI too spy on 278 000 peeople who atteded School Board meetings and attended the Catholic Church  - the FIS Court issued a damning verdict that indicated that the court cannt rely on the FBI to do a proper job and that su[pervison ove their political invovlement in scandre necssary.

The CIA and FBI kne that Bidn a involved in bribery and corruption iro various countries - they ahd the famus Huter Biden Laptop and bank reports on money laundering by the  Biden's   They told the mdia that there are Russia disinformation on bribery and corruption cominmg out and that te emdia must ban it as Russian Disnfomation.   They refused to investigate it and 52 CIA and ex-CIA oficials claimed in a eter it wa Russian dsirmation - tey inm act lied in that letter.   The FBI refused to investgate the Lptop from hell and the back adice of moey maundering.

When they were queried by the House and instructed to povide teir copies of the BankAdvices they were forced to table it in the Houe and asked for an explanation as to why the bank satements were not investigated  Wray claimed he as unaware of the advices and i was routinely filed by staff - in other words it ws a cover-up to prtect the Biden's/

So wh were the big lars involved - it was the Democratic Party and the Obama appointees in teh Justice Department, the FBI and te CIA who were the liars.   When Biden ws provd to be attending meetings wih his and Hunter's foreig busines "partners - the DP claimed they were spending hours discussing family issues nd the weather - nothig about the corrupt  bribes pad by the "partners" to theBiden amily.

So who were the rel liars - the Democratic Party filth eadeshi[p and their corrupt beaucracy.

What is a real prblem on this site is that  the same members supporting the incompetent Mugabe Harris - were the same agtators falling for the tens of thousands of lies spread by the media over the past 8 years.    They still believe all the lies spread in the media and have learned nothig from the fact that they were lied to in the past and is sill lying as to the present election.

The bggest idiot on site is Rooinek - who is not only brainwashed - but a clueless abu any ra situaion.   Bozo is living renfree in what is left of his malfunctioning brain.

Bozo is not just a failure in business, he's a failure as a human being.

His first biggest failure is himself and the second and only other is his inability to court the media. He didn't learn from the experience of his term in office instead he chose to blunder along to his own detriment. And perhaps he did achieve some good things but that is drowned by his all too many failures....by his relentless foot shoots and feeding of the media.

In his second coming he should have learnt the arts of diplomacy, subtlety, empathy and hell knows whatever it took to sway the media in his favour.

He should have learnt that no one beats the media and that he needed their support for another term in office.

So yes, he needed to clean up his act ....a makeover and a reset would have gone a long way in helping him win another term.

Addendum : And  Mike, don't bother to add your opinion, you're too dumb to understand any of it.

Denny

Just give us proof of what you said above,

Courting he left media in the od is what not n.   They lied and spread propaganda and you have not arned from the Russian Hoax started and spread by the Democrats.   How do any politician deals with media BS  they spread.   The propaganda media in the USA do not allow for anything bar in Trump's case his demise.

In ehw rold under Trump there was stabiity in the world - that wa sabsed on dipomacy and a strong stand by Trmp on protection of US nterests.   Uder Biden world stability collapsed and war mongerig took over.   The latter s the result of inability to negotiate by the ape that is now the Secretary of State.   His so-called diplomacy resulted in him giving him a lecture on issues like the Ukraine War d after he spoke for a minute being te real diot eh is - Mrs Pandor got upaid she ahd n time to waste and left the room.

I seems that nbody respect te present US President and if Mugabe Harris win the elecion in November whatever their bit of respect fo ehr will nish into thin air.

Blob Trump’s apparent approval of Loomer is another depressing development in a presidential race without one ray of hope. I couldn’t believe my ears when Trump reduced a Presidential debate to immigrants eating pets. Even if it happened  it should never have been raised in that forum. But to find out subsequently he said this on the basis of evidence from a conspiracy nutter, is criminally dumb.
