Separately we learn North Korean troops who are largely responsible for dislodging the Ukranians in Kursk are developing vital battle tactics and becoming battle hardened. At the right moment they would enthusiastically employ those tactics against their cousins in the South.
Probably not accurate to say their largely responsible for dislodging Ukraine. North Korea sent about a divisions worth of troops to fight against Ukraine, something like 11,000 to 12,000. Several hundred had already been killed and several thousand wounded by the time that the Ukrainians were mostly driven out of Kursk (they still hold some very advantageous and difficult to attack high ground in Kursk). I believe the Russian's had amassed around 70,000+ troops in Kursk when Ukraine was pushed back, moving reinforcements in from other sectors. More accurate to say the North Korean's played a supporting role.
It's difficult to say how much the North Korean's are learning. Are the Russian's using them as cannon fodder, are Russian tactics that effective in the first place and would they apply to a conflict in North Korea. Do the North Korean's have the capability of adopting the tactics on a wide basis etc.
There has been massive hand wringing about Greenland. The US would never take Greenland by force, or any other sovereign country . It remains with Britain the only ready, willing and able counter force to bad actors on a global basis.
The world no longer trusts the US. With all the rhetoric coming from the Trump administration we simply can't be sure anymore that it wouldn't take such drastic action.
France also has the capability if it wishes. It has similar capabilities to the UK.
China will not relent in Xi’s lifetime and probably for generations beyond that. Given the right prospects Russia might, they are far closer to the West culturally. Which is why resolving the Ukranian tragedy is crucial…..but not easy. The emotions of war are embedded.
You can sort of argue Russia is culturally closer to the West than China is, but we are still along way of peaceful co-existence never mind any sort of Russia integration with the west. As long as Putin is there or if his successor is anything like him there is no chance of that. That's why it's crucial Putin can not be allowed win either militarily or achieve his aims in Ukraine with some highly favorable settlement that allows him to control Ukraine through coercion. All that would do is vindicate his view that the west is weak and embolden him to do the same thing again elsewhere. It would also send a message to China that the west was weak and would eventually cut a deal over Taiwan if the Chinese attacked it, they would just have to wait them out. If the idea with giving Putin a favorable deal in Ukraine is to draw him away from China, that's just deluded.
Trump’s words not his actions or potential actions have taken away from reality.
No his action's have had an effect. Such as cutting of foreign aid programs or the stopping of intelligence sharing to Ukraine.
Germany is not our enemy but nor is it very consequential in a geo political sense.
Germany is indeed not America's enemy and because of their history with the second world war and the cold war they have always simply opted to follow America's lead when it came to geo-politics. If the present course of world events leads to a more united and active Europe on the world stage, they might have the most influence over it.
The West will come together again at some point, the reality of our real threats will ensure that. In the meantime we need to be much smarter
As I said before the US has chosen to try to Brexit from planet earth. The remaining western aligned countries are still together. The US may decide to reserve course and rejoin maybe even resuming its leadership position, but it may not have the same power and influence over them it once did.
We need to be smarter? The US needs to be smarter. Stop trying to imply the rest of the western aligned world is also suffering from the same faux pas that the US is.
