HBO has produced a brilliant, grim, believable account of this event....demonstrating just how expendable people were when the ideology was threatened. Government workers are protected if they support the party position.....under capitalism, executives would have been sued and spent many years in prison. But whatever you believe this is must see material......imagine yourself deep underground in a chamber filled with radioactive water, and then your torch is extinguished by the radiation, you can see nothing, but you can hear the geiger counter.

We have a friend who is Belarussian who lives close to us whose daughter Larisa died at 18 years of age from leukemia just after completing her first year at varsity. Larisa was a pretty little thing, brilliant at school in academia and sport and was head girl, captain of hockey and net ball team.

She completed her first year with colours in medicine and then a few days later fell ill...she was diagnosed with this critical illness a few days later and died not long afterwards.

They lived in Minsk, but the radiation fallout from Chernobyl spread all over this region and has caused many to get cancer. Larisa was born just after this disaster and lived a healthy sporty life with no apparent effects until suddenly after living in SA for about 10 years. This type of contamination can remain dormant for years and then suddenly something goes wrong in the body...very frightening. It definitely without a doubt was caused by Chernobyl as there have been countless other similar cases. Chernobyl is about 340 klms from Minsk but fallout gets carried in wind/clouds etc, even parts of Moscow far away were affected.

Then what about the disaster in Japan a few years ago...even bigger disaster...there are going to be disastrous results here no doubt...the sea polution included and currents carrying it. I don't know if this is being monitored and what the results are...too much false reporting and cover-ups in the world today. Both communism (socialism) and capitalistic governments will cover up because of hidden agendas. The economic aspect should not dominate man's survival...poisoning natural resources will certainly destroy us altogether in years to come.

https://www.cnn.com/2016/03/08/asia/fukushima-five-year-anniversary/index.html

When fish and beasts of the field either die or carry poisons what then, if our food no longer is healthy do we swallow pills. Mankind never learns.

It was heart-breaking to see such a lovely young person go this way.

I'm very against nuclear energy...it destroys everything.

It would be disastrous in SA with all our slothful negligent mamparas running such proposed projects.

So far looks excellent 8 May 2019 | by LladeratSee all my reviews

Im ukrainian, born in 1988 and still live here. I want to give the authors of this show a big thumbs up for the whole set they have made. Every little detail of the buildings, flats, uniforms, clothes, cars, especially big thumbs up for ambulance "RAFiks" (RAF-2203), almost everything is 99% identical to the real things of the time, just a few mistakes on some signs that have been written in a mix of russian\ukrainian and some other unknown language, but it all doesnt matter, because what i have seen previously in other movies about soviets were so bad that its not even comparable to this. The other thing is this "comrade" word that almost everyone throws while calling or shouting at someone, its just one of those stereotypes thats still left in western world, in reality no one in an everyday life talked like that, especially not in Ukraine in 1986, it was mainly used in 'official' language in meetings and media, people just talked like you and i would today. Apart from this two small inaccuracies i am shocked at the level of production of this show, it is very good, no one outside of Ukraine has ever made a good tv series about Chernobyl before, i have a weird feeling it was made by someone from USSR, because there was zero moments where i cringed watching it. It was mostly "spot on", "spot on", "wow, spot on". Can't wait for the next episode!!!

And the Democrat Socialiosts in the USSA wats mire Nuclear Power Plants and Solar and Wind electricity cutting out all other methods of power generation.

After spending my working life long working for Government institutions I once wrote that Public Servants the whole world around functions the same  - they never accept responsibility for balls-ups they make and what is happening in the USA with all the scandals relating to the  Russian Hoax it confirms my viewpoint on that score.   They would shy away from showing any initiative ever and they limit there productivity beyond belief.   ,

I wonder what makes the 20 DP candidates think they can turn that around and make the Super State they want to work,

I don't like socialism at all but it happened in capitalistic Japan...even worse...these effects are starting and will escalate... anyway it's all governments...they all are dishonest and duck and dive.

Japan is criminally negligent in a wider sense...building nuclear plants in a country that is prone to frequent earthquakes is nationally culpable and irresponsible.

Nuclear power is an evil invention, both in peace and war. It is no friend of mankind and cannot be harnessed in safety and risk free...even if the risks are minimised, it's that type of risk that spells not partial but total wipeout.

It's not the event I'm referencing, it's the failure of officials to protect people first....criminally rampant in Chernobyl. In Japan they evacuated quickly. But there is still the lasting contamination as you point out Chabal. As for nuclear plants, clearly never in Japan or any seismically active region. But we will come back to nuclear and not with 70year old technology. Think about how much better cars are today. Here's a sample of the thinking: ................... Transatomic's reactor is also designed to automatically shut down during a power outage, with fuel draining into an escape tank and freezing solid, avoiding the kind of meltdown that has made more traditional nuclear power plant development abhorrent to power companies, alternative-energy proponets, environmentalists, and policymakers, many of whom remain alarmed by the prospect of more nuclear power. But Transatomic also offers a solution to the problem of where to store spent nuclear fuel, which has long vexed scientists. Typical nuclear reactors consume only a fraction of the energy in their uranium fuel, which has lead to vast amounts of spent radioactive fuel rods. Transatomic's molten salt reactors would use that spent waste. “The world’s stockpile of nuclear waste is about 300,000 metric tons, about a football field’s worth that’s two meters deep,’’ Dewan says. “There’s a tremendous amount of energy that’s left. With that waste, a waste-consuming molten salt reactor could produce enough electrical energy to power the world for decades.” She calls herself an environmentalist at heart: “I think I can save the world with nuclear power." ............. Very sorry about your friend's daughter Chabal....sad.
