I'm more curious to see what the knockout fixture list would look like?

If we top our group who will we face in the quarters?

A: France / NZ

B: SA / Ireland

C: Aus / Wales

D: Eng / Arg / Japan

So in the last World Cup, the winner of Pool B played the runner up of Pool A.

If this is the case then we either have to face France or NZ.

France seem to be a team on the up and NZ is sliding down. So we end up with NZ in the Quarters.

The 2023 Rugby World Cup draw in full:

Pool A: New Zealand, France, Italy, Americas 1 (likely USA), Africa 1 (likely Namibia)

Pool B: South Africa, Ireland, Scotland, Asia-Pacific 1 (likely Tonga), Europe 2 (likely Portugal)

Pool C: Wales, Australia, Fiji, Europe 1 (likely Georgia), final qualifier winner

Pool D: England, Japan, Argentina, Oceania 1 (likely Samoa), Americas 2 (likely Canada/Uruguay)

Interesting set-up.

New Zealand /France again...this time with a much stronger developing French.

South Africa only challenger is Ireland, but don't write off Scotland.

England's got Argentina to worry about.

Australia has Wales to contend with.

There appears no Pool of Death, like previous events.

However we have seen upsets before...looks a good one.

Too early to call, we cannot make assumptions or presumptions...as we don't know for sure how each will develope in the coming years.

Looks like we have a potential banana skin with Argentina.

Just have to start playing a darn site better than we have been lately.

In 2019 Japan beat both  Ireland and Scotland so they remain a danger as well,

If the Japs keep building on their momentum, they will definitely be a handful They have the money and more and more non Japs are playing there and will qualify to play for them

Absolutely. They should never take anyone for granted.

But I think Argentina remain the biggest threat.

Yes, Japanese rugby has come a long way since their cricket score defeat in an early world cup game against the AB's and shocked the Boks in 2015, a game ol' Mike will never forgive but to be fair what Saffex remarked appears to be true.

It will be interesting to see how they perform in games prior to the WC run up.

And Argentina has won respect and that too will be interesting to see their build up.

This coming WC could very well hold a few surprises. That will be good for rugby worldwide in general and silence the skeptics.

Becs is right...never take a position for granted, always treat your opposition with respect, if not you could be in for some surprises.
