34 year old Gerrrard is still the best Liverpool player

I suppose he likes Sterling....what a waste of space. Liverpool was Louis Suarez and since he left mouthguard and all, they are simply ordinary. There are great players and then there are hyped youngsters.

 Mozart, you can and probably do know way more about rugby than me!
But, football's my sport and Liverpool are my club and I can safely say that you're talking nonsense mate.
Gerrard is still an important player, no doubt, but he's an important squad player, most Liverpool fans agree that he's lost his legs and that Rodgers needs to get rid of sentimentality and player a more dynamic central midfield.
Also, as shocking as Liverpool have been this season and believe me we have been, don't let that cloud your vision on Sterling - the boy's a stunning talented and he's on of the only sparks that this team has.
Also, when you're calling free kicks - penalties, then you probably shouldn't be commenting on the sport at all

I think it's true that Gerrard isn't quite the player he was, even back last year when he made that disastrous back pass blunder. But  he is still capable of outstanding individual bits of skill that transcend the ordinary players around him. To me Sterling looks like the next in an endless string of British youngsters who are supposedly going to be great, but simply don't have the horsepower. 
As for my credentials, I'm not a soccer fanatic, but I have been following the sport since 1970. I had a box at Tottenham for two years in the eighties, and watched a fair bit. So be a nice chappie and let me have my say.

 Of course he's produces moments of outstanding skill, things like passing, dead ball specialism will never leave you but when he plays the whole 90 he's a liability because you can't rely on having a good right foot. Biltongbek raises a fantastic point; Gerrard for 90 minutes is a liability, Gerrard for 20 or 30 minutes at the end of a game is top class, he can throw everything at the game without worrying about conserving energy. It's a premise that can be used for most older players. Btw, I'm not one of these anti old players, I do still think they are important.Also, regarding Sterling, he's nothing like the previous hyped up potential in England. Him and Oxlade Chamberlain are definite talents, Sterling especially has unreal strength for such a little guy and he'll definitely make more of his career than previous hyped up youngsters.Also, I'm happy you're a football fan too, I hope you're telling the Americans to call if football too! I stand corrected. 

 Mozart has a serious hang-up about age of players in any sport - especially rugby.   He refuses to recognize a basic fact of life - that aging of sportmen and women influences their perofrmances.
So he hunts around in the sports news department to find examples which he can use to jutify his support of sports geriatrics - and anything goes in that regard.   The string is endless:-
*    Thorn in the 2011 WC playing at lock at 38years of age - irrepective of the fact that he did not put in really credible performances - his age ws all that counts.
*    The fact that theso-called Strongest Man in the World is a 39  year-old.
*    The constant endless praising of Botha - writing an unbelievable praise-song on his performances in the Scotland test last year - only to be told that Botha's performance was way below par in that test.     Botha's sub-par performances continued in subsequent test and in the end the player himself found that he couldnot compete anymore against youngerplayers and quitted the international sceme.   Mozart to the end denied allegationsthat Botha was puttingin sub-par performances.  
*     Now this story about soccer players.
All the above is used to support his stand in support of the oldest players in the rugby test squad and essentially Matfield and a string of over 30 years of age players.   The sick part is that his support is not based  on the performances of the siad players in tests - matter of fact some eprformances are sub-par and definitely not acceptable - but on the issue of age and experience - in other world his criterum for selection remains reputation - nothing else.
It may be a thing generally found in older people - however I myself ignores it - and that is to hang onto the past like glue and hope the glories of the past remains intact for ever.    We all know that things change - but the people like Mozart will fight change with all in their power - as if that would make them not aging themsleves.      

Moffie doesn't support Spurs. Some years ago I asked him a few basic questions about Tottenham players and he couldn't answer one. He'd never even heard of Glenn Hoddle and he was talking about White "Heart" (sic) Lane.

PPS Gerrard is a pale shadow of the player he once was and g uys like Coutinho and Lallana should be starting ahead of him. I do however think that Brendan Rogers made a big mistake trying to convert Gerrard into a holding midfielder rather than leaving him in his best role as an attacking midfielder. Whatever recent return to form we're seeing from Gerrard has been since he got pushed further forward again.

 Gerrard has been poor this season so far, just look where Liverpool are in the BPL. Sterling has been poor finishing this season but everything else he's been fantastic in, the lad needs a rest though to get his head straight.

My son is the Spurs supporter  

Moffie did once claim to be a Spurs supporter but not since I quizzed him about a few basic Spurs facts that any supporter would know and the doddering old fool started sputtering and backtracking.

That makes two of us. This Argie coach is rubbish. I think Spurs got him because Southampton did so well under him last year but look how well they're doing this season without Pocchetwatto or half of their stars from last season.

When it comes to football, I don't know who is who......I used to take note when I took part in the firms fantasy league but that was many years ago  

Gerrard is another English player that looks ok at club level. However he is a proven failure at international level. 
He was part of the "golden generation" along with a host of other wasters including Frank Lampard, and the village idiot Rio Ferdinand. A bunch of overpaid loud mouth chaves. One of the world cups was used to launch Lampard auto-biography, where he took a record amount of shot at goal. However most were from around his own half way line and were a joke in bad taste. 
This was a team that talked them up-selves up as winners before every tournament, only to lose to small countries with a mix of semi-professional players along with the local pub team players. (Macedonia and the Aztecs beat England........)

Whilst England might have failed on the national stage, Gerrard, Lampard and Ferdinand were still great players.
