Sometimes teams used to switch the centers in certain situations, particularly on the attack.

It would be good to see AM get a shot as a playmaker to see if it would give the Boks more options on phase play.
He could release Delande who would line up outside the center with more space, or skip pass to the wing, or try passing inwards to the blindside wing or fullback cutting the line.

When the high ball is working, the Boks have the forwards to smash all teams.
Boks need to add a bit extra to the attack, especially in matches when the opposition is good under the high ball.
The All Blacks will be prepared for the high ball, so need to get the Bok wingers into the game more. The Boks have the best finishers in world rugby, and they need to get into the game more- not just counter attacks.

Nope it’s not how it works. As Schalk Brits said - DA is one of the most gifted players he has ever played with but he is playing the game plan With defences so structured and tight in modern test rugby, the days of a 12 creating space and having his 13 run off his creativity have gone. DA is instructed to take it up using his strength to set up phases - its part of the plan Put Am at 12 and he would get shut down with no forward momentum created It’s why we see Frans Steyn as the back up 12, he does exactly the same thing It’s also the reason it makes no sense that Esterhuizen is not in the squad, he is a DA clone

I was thinking about phase play attack. Delande will still line up at 12 most of the time, just some variation on the attack. A bit like a boxer fighting left-handed, even when they are right-handed just to be more unpredictable.
Delande will still get all the opportunities to carry the ball up. AM could provide more options after a few phases, and Delande would then get more space to run onto the ball where he could more lethal away from the opposition forwards.

Or you instruct DA to use his creativity at 12 after x number of phases have been played - but I’m sure if the opportunity presents itself exactly that will happen The Boks were playing some good running rugby in the WC Since lockdown they have had to rediscover their rhythm and Im sure we will see better attacking passages of play as the season progresses

Damian is the least talented centre I have ever seen. There isn't a single aspect to his game that is good. Meyer tried to get Damian in space in 2015. He got the space, like the Stormers were using him, but he was clueless. The 2018 test in Twickenham, he was totally lost. In space he often runs aimlessly and bunches up the outside support into the touchline, or squirted out those hazardous offloads back in his early years (I call them dump-offs, as that's what they really were). Am is powerful, just as Kriel was the more forceful punch runner. But, we put him inside, what is he doing? Who is he connecting with? The attack needs an overhaul. It doesn't give options, hence the stodgy phaseplay. X to Y, ruck, rinse and repeat. It's the José ball control style, where everything is so heavily scripted to control where the ball goes on the field, not allowing players to think and exploit an ever-changing front as it unfolds, taking the best options. The modern game presents options to the distributors and key decision makers. As we've seen with the regression of the output of Pollard and Willie, the affect of this limited style will be felt for years to come. Putting Damian in space with a decision making role will never work, and making Am a blunt instrument isn't going to improve his game or improve the Boks. I see what you are saying Herr Hai, but it just isn't the way the Boks function.

Omelette no one gives a fuck what you think about DA He is our inside centre and we love him and agree with those that say he is the best 12 in the game Only an ignorant fuckwit would think otherwise Are you an ignorant fuckwit?

Dave

In 2015 de Allende and Steyn were inside centers forthe Sharks and the Stormers.    On two occasions Steyn tried to tackle De Allende and he landed on his backside on the grass.   You should have seen the squirming that came from that worm when I reminded him of that game.  LMAO.

He ilves on cloud 9 and when he wrote about the strong carries and tackling in the first test . I referred to the fact that Steyn carried  balls  3 tmes in the test on Saturday and never crossed the gain line once, as well as two tackles made by him in the first half and he missed one - and showed that  The Imbecile claimed he is a better player and De Allende in the 12 position I just burst out laughing.

Frans never landed on his backside. Damian did spin around Frans, all the way to his ankles. Looked like a pole dance. A foreshadowing for the rest of the season, where Damian logged the most missed tackles of every player in Super rugby, and would go on to blow key tests, including the WC clash with the All Blacks. Man, you are easy pickings Lügnerin. We need to have your nose filed down before you take someone's eye out again.

There are two types of Inside Center. Distributing (creative) think Matt Giteau and Gain line ( crashball) think Jamie Roberts.

Duh Allende is the latter. He gets gain line but that's about where it ends. Gain line through crashball but hardly any linebreaks. Gone even is taking the half gap and offload to a shoulder runner.  Just head down, plough onwards, get tackled, present ball.

Rinse, Repeat.

Then tell me Unteromlett, what did he do in those games this year? Reference something. Why is it that the plastics get wound up over something they cannot explain because they don't know why they feel the way they do? It's irrational and backwards. You love Damian purely because your are told too. You cannot think for yourself. I accused you of having knickers that were too tight, perhaps your owners need to loosen your collar. Ende.

Xavi now name a current test 12 that is able to be as creative as you maintain not useless Matt who was a sad excuse for a 12 long ago

Henshaw, Fickou, Havili, Rohan, Esterhozen, Lienert-Brown….but the best example is Jean de Villiers, Dud’s predecessor.

Perfectly capable of making the hard yards, but lightning fast in space….and with a real pass. Take JDV’s most famous pass the one which was called forward to Lambie, but wasn’t. Dud could never ever throw that pass for two reasons, he doesn’t pass that well….nor could he make a decision that quickly.

And on the defence Jean knew when to shoot upto snuff out the danger or stop an opponent way short of the advantage line.

The game hasn’t changed that much JDV would still be a brilliant attacking centre

Does this day in and out. The best distributing 12 I have seen from South Africa.
