Steyn is not in the squad and unlikely to be in the squad.in future.      I have a feeling that Libbok is a smallish flyhalf like Bosch and that he may lose the plot on higher level would not be selected  for the squads in 2023.

Meyer did the same thing in 2018 and used some players to see whether they can take the step up to international level -   some players got ample chances   to play and still not made the WC squad in 2019 - while others were discarded earlier after one or two matches.  Erasmus was severely criticized about what he did in 2018  and I think the same would happen this year, but in the end his team in the 2019 WC was way better than the previous two Springbok teams who won World Cups for SA..

There is not much scope for trying out potential players and this tour is basically an opportunity for some of the newbies to show their abilities and some of the has-beens to up their game or capitulate .

Libbok is not scared of contact like Bosch is For a small guy he defends well He would be fine at test level Creative and kicks equally well off both feet - deserves an opportunity

I'm not saying that Libbok should be our next 10, but agree with Saffex that the guy needs a chance. Neither should they throw in the deep end. The pace and intensity in test matches is unrivalled. So, throwing a player like Dwebe straight in was unfair. We had Marx, that can play a whole match. Bring him on in the last 10 min or so. Imagine if they started with Herschel Janjties, but he came on in the last 10 min and were brilliant on many occasions, however, he is not the best 9 around as a starter. Allow guys to get over their nerves and settle.

I hope Willemse has been working on his goal kicking.

I would definitely put Libbok on the bench, even though I stated he should start.

To be frank, Libbok was never my type of player. Saw him play for the juniors. Very flashy player but made so many errors, but since he move to the stormers he has become a completely different player that can boss the game from 10 and direct phase as well as pulling the strings.

It’s a pity Goosen did not have more time to prove himself at 10 - stupid Jake playing him at 15 has not helped With no experienced 10’s in the Bok squad it looks like Willemse will start at 10 all tour. It’s a huge gamble and a huge ask of the young man given he never features at 10 for the Stormers so has no game time in the position. I’d definitely have Libbok on the bench as backup as we can’t except him to start
