Could we get  some  direction from the editor as regards certain posters who continually respond to posts or make fresh posts that call for end to club and international rugby?
Surely we are all here to talk about and get others opinions on the game.
To my mind anybody who is simply here to de-promote rugby is just as toxic as a spammer? A Spammer is at least not calling for something that would ultimately mean the end of this site.
Opinions?

Well plum, I am not sure if that was directed at me for calling the Currie Cup a waste of time, but the only reason I have made that point is for the overall good of rugby. The whole point of a forum is to discuss things related to a specific subject, in this case rugby. My point of view is, maybe because of the sheer volume of rugby played, the significance of the individual games is depleted. Reduce the overall number of first class games, and people will show more interest in those that are played.

Think you're being a bit hard on Traditionalist, Plum. You have to remember, Traditionalist hates everything. Yes, that includes rugby but the fact that he hangs around a rugby forum indicates that of all the many things he hates, rugby is one of his least hated things.

Anyway, I'm pretty sure no-one pays attention to his vitriolic pessimism anymore. Apart from being unable to string a coherent sentence together, he's just become boring and repetetive. "Excellent men this . . . excellent men that . . . rugby is awful, South Africa is even worse . . . blah blah blah . . ." Same old garbage day after day.

Think he ruffled a few feathers when he first came on here but now he's just stale and irrelevant. I wouldn't bother banning the sad loser . . . that would be giving his tired and boring rubbish some credibility.

 To clarify.
Traditionalist constantly calls for an end to Rugby.
Not that rugby will ever "end" but if it were to then this site would be superfluous.
He is thus indirectly calling for an end to Ruckers.
@Denny - There is a limitation on every right in this country, even discrimination. Nobody is stopping him from expressing his opinion. Only that you can't want to stand on the soap box and burn it down at the same time.
" Nuisance value" is a very relative term Denny.
Free speech is the right to express your opinion. It doesn't mean that you have the right to do so at any time to any audience. Need I elaborate?

The trick displayed in this thread is typical to excellent men. This is how, because you happen to belong to this or that group, you find yourself accountable of actions taken by people who are unable to stand by themselves, act on their own behalf, and feel the urge to act on a way larger group than they are.

There was no call to end rugby. There was not even a call to end rugby in SA. There was a call to end  SA 15 rugby. Call made on various considerations that went never countered.

The point is that, when arguments were lined up to justify ending SA 15 rugby, arguments to keep it going are still missing.
It was mentioned many times that England, contrary to SA, can afford to play 15 loser rugby, that playing winner rugby is a justification in itself (worthwhile for SA 7 rugby and NZ 15 rugby)

Yet, it ends as it usually ends with excellent men, enlarging to avoid facing accountability.

So from the specific call to terminate SA 15 rugby, it turns out into a call to end rugby. Which is going up to claiming that this board, that posts about cricket, tennis, football.

Terminating SA 15 rugby will not terminate rugby. On the contrary, trying to prop up SA 15 rugby is endangering SA 7 rugby.

The termination of SA 15 rugby will come sooner or later. Dismissing it is in fact the threat put on rugby in general. For the rose to blossom, the ailing SA 15 branch must be trimmed.

Excellent men usually fail at self perception.

Vitriolic pessimism fits most posts made on this board. This was in fact one cause stated to terminate SA 15 rugby.

It is clear that SA 15 rugby does not make people happy. They moan, blame, lament, rage, are in need of scapegoats. There is no positive emotion attached to SA 15 rugby.

When watching the Wellington tournament, despite winning, the SA 7 team looks atomized, fragmented, with no union. Guns for hire who play for cash.

Fiji , despite losing, looks united, a band of brothers, with their agreements and disagreements yet a band of brothers.
It can be understood, why, Fijians, despite their poverty, strive to preserve that.

In SA, there is nothing of the sort. Time to end the torment, time to put an end to the agony. Terminate SA 15 rugby.

I was very surprised how often Rugby is mentioned by ANC members of Parliament and that includes both 15 man and Sevens - so the idea sto end rugby is just about as big a load of garbage than has ever been floated in various media.
My question who is suggesting that 15 man Rugby needs to be discontinued and who raised that argument.   Some of the ideas mentioned is just not practical.   In Europe and Japan most clubs are privately owned and the owners are not exactly struggling to finance anything.  They make their money elsewhere and spend their pocket money on sport clubs they own - whether it is rugby, soccer or any other sporting code.
Despite the terrible  condition of SA Governance - there are still extremely wealthy people who is now brought into rugby and they are and will be taking over the financial management of franchises.
That there are changes needed is evident - but to call for the end of the game in SA is just about the most foolish thing anyone can do.

SA does not compare with Japan or european rugby nations. Even them, though, have included regulations like SC.

Blaming someone for an alleged lack of logics while displaying oneself an assault on logics, this is what DJT does.

No. SA 15 rugby is played while kids are starving.
That is a tremendous difference. Considering the situation of SA, bound to be turned into a Kolmanskop, it is delusional to think that the issue of starving kids can be addressed without terminating pointless and counter productive activities as SA 15 rugby.
Terminating SA 15 rugby will be not enough though. It will take more.

Keep SA 15 rugby, you keep starving kids. Terminate SA 15 rugby and you might end that starving kid issue. Or not.

i think Trad would make great bed fellows with this guy..
..."It seems that in modern day America, Marx's dictum, that religion was the opiate of the masses, does not hold true. Rather, it seems that professional sports have become the opiate of the masses; an escape from reality, if you will. Many people think that sports are merely a harmless form of entertainment. However, that assertion could not be further from the truth. Far from being harmless entertaiment, sports, in addition to a myriad of other things, are being used to lull and keep the public asleep, so that they do not take notice of the monumental changes taking place in America and around the world.

The world is collapsing around us, and yet 90% of the adult male population either couldn't care less or aren't even aware of what is going on. They seem to believe that the result of a football or baseball game is more important than the outcome of a national election. There is truly something wrong with the citizenry if they think that entertainment is the most important thing in the world. Entertainment, such as sports, were originally supposed to be treats meant to be partaken in sparingly. Now, however, people do nothing but entertain themselves. People spend countless hours of their lives watching television or playing video games when they could be doing more meaningful things, such as reading a book, taking a walk outside, or playing with their children.

Of all the entertainment forms, sports seems to hypnotize people like nothing else. People postpone or put off more important things just so they can sit down and watch the “game” and cheer for their “team”; as if the multi-million dollar sports players even care about the teams, or the fans, for that matter. People seem to think that their very existences hinge on whether or not a team win a meaningless game. It is truly sad to see grown men crying over a lost football game, but it just goes to show how brainwashed and dumbed-down our population has become.

Furthermore, it becomes extremely disturbing and frightening to see people resort to violence to deal with their anger revolving around a sporting event. It happens all the time; people rioting in the streets, flipping cars, and torching buildings to protest (or even celebrate, stunningly) the outcome of a sporting event. Yet, these are the same people who would not lift a finger, never mind a firearm, to protect and defend their very liberties against those among us who seek to confiscate them and reduce us to serfdom.

It is very disappointing to see people get angry over a sports game and then not get angry over an election or the sorry state of our country. The world is crumbling around us, yet it apparently is far less important than a Red Sox – Yankees game. These fake rivalries have become more divise than partisan politics or religion. There are actually people who genuinely hate others simply because they support a certain sports team. That is not only stupid, it is dangerous. Our country is already divided; do we really need more divisiveness now, especially when it is concerning something so unimportant as sports? To think that there have actually been deaths and mortal wounds inflicted on people because of sports rivalries is something that I cannot (no will I ever be able to be) comprehend. There have actually been cases where people have murdered each other because they support a certain sports team. What does that say about our country? Furthermore, what does that say about our priorities? We'll kill for the Red Sox or the Yankees, or the Jets or the Patriots, but we wouldn't kill to defend liberty and ward off tyranny? We'll foster hatred in our hearts for our fellow Americans because they like a certain team, but we refuse to hate those who hate liberty?

I find it rather humorous that people view sports with a tribal mentality. They seem to believe that just because they sit on their couch with a foam finger that they somehow are a part of the team, when they, in fact, are not. Also, when said team wins or loses, sports fans have the audacity to say “we won” or “we lost”. We won. Really? You won? Were you out there on the field playing the game? No, of course not. It is just that these wayward lost souls want to feel as though they are a part of something marginally important, so they pretend that they are an integral part of a team that a) doesn't personally even know they exist and b) couldn't care less about them even if they did know the person in question. Sports is all about money, not loyalty to some stupid “team” that has turned into some modern-day tribe. After all, if it were about loyalty, teams wouldn't so cavalierly trade players like they so often do.

It is very frustrating to try to explain this to someone who themselves are brainwashed. People refuse to believe something so “innocuous” as sports could pose such a deadly threat to the Republic. But people do not recognize that sports themselves aren't the problem; the people who have a slavish devotion towards them are. People who are so obsessed with sports that they neglect other, much more important, parts of their lives are the problem and they are a serious one at that.

Americans need to turn off, tune out, and drop in. We need to wake up and come to the aid of our dying Republic in these fateful days. May God Bless America and wake up her citizens, before it is too late. For we WILL regret it if we do not preserve our Republic. Sadly, it may already be too late to combat the forces of tyranny at work in America. We can only hope that it is not too late…

This question keeps being asked, it turns intriguing. How do people do not answer it by themselves.

SA football team: unable to qualify for the ANC. The ANC is a competition players are often out of their own pockets, their federation do not pay them, players take from their club salary to play for their country. ANC involves african countries.
SA is also barred from organizing WCs by FIFA.

SA rugby team: usually sent to expensive countries. Due to the lower number of countries involved in rugby, guaranteed to qualify for WCs.
Despite the claim made on this board, on the prohibition of organizing world events as a consequence of not meeting the quotas, SA is a candidate to host 2023 WCR (and could be chosen on the simple matter of alterning between North and South)

No.

Corruption is wide spread. Rugby is  not. Number of countries with no corruption and a rugby team is far less than the number of countries with corruption and no rugby team.

And more important, corruption is a diversion. The other day, an african president was brought down on the ground he was corrupted. Over his years of reign, he stashed ten millions dollars. Ten millions dollars.

Trad - so the Clubs pay soccer players and SAFA do not contribute - just stop smoking the stuff you get high on or let me know where one can get some of it.   SAFA covr th cost of players and they get match fees as well.
So Government corruption is not a problem - that chap in Gambia got away with $10 mil - that is small change compared to what the thieves take in SA - bribes can be as high as R1 billion.     The money the country loses through corruption and bribery could double the social grants and reduce starvation.
I think you have no idea about how the systems work and what would force the sponsors to feed the children after paying 45% income tax - pity is the money does not reach the poor - it is syphoned off.
In other words and to be blunt - your argument is a lot of illogical twaddle.
