Incidentally wee Robbie was not fiction...he existed, in deed my late mother told my brother that her family ancestry goes back to the rebel himself. I tried to get involved in tracing it but these services want money out of you and I don't trust them and gave up...what does it matter anyway, proves nothing. Yes, he existed alright but the movie with Liam Neeson (an Irishman) was a story only...Mac Gregor was a bold and good swordsman however and would have chopped that fob, Archibald Cunningham (Tim Roth) to pieces...

As for hideous women....yes, there are many of us throughout time. It truly is a curse, Mike !! Perhaps it is why I try to do such good works myself.You have to ask Mr S about my hideousness. He knows me well and, thankfully, didn't spurn me on first witnessing my visage.   
Anne of Cleves was also thought to be hideous and was spurned by the less than attractive Henry VIII. After their divorce, she remained in England, mostly under house arrest and often under fear fir her life, but was one of the most loved and kindly Queens/ex-Queens we have ever had. She outlived him and remained devoted to him until his death, even though he treated her so harshly. She would have made him a wonderful Queen, if only he hadn't been so stupid and blinded by perceived beauty...that and guilt over the fact that he was never really divorced from Catherine of Aragon. I could go on. Don't get me started !!

She was much maligned. 
The problem was, the portrait Henry was shown led him to believe she was far prettier than she actually was and his courtiers actually spread that story too, in the bid to make him marry her.
So, when he first saw her, more or less at the time of their marriage, he was pretty angry.He had a penchant for young, nubile wenches, remember  
She was a lovely woman, by all accounts. And made a wonderful Queen. She was also so very loyal to him until the bitter end. 
A fascinating and very sad story really.

Why not try Catherine the Great of Russia who was by all accounts a nymphomaniac - no she would not work in your case - or Maria Theresa Archduchess of  Austria and Queen of Hungary.  Her husband was in name the Emporer - but she governed the country - much like some members want to govern this site.  Talking about hideous - she was at 5'1" weighing 120 kgs - really a picture of lard.
Almost as bad in the fat stakes as Willem Alberts and Francois Steyn - that one.

And I have certainly forgotten more now than I still retain in the damaged brain, sadly. But I can still get enough recall to converse on a lot of subjects, I think, and I am always interested to learn about things I do not know.

Yes, he was Welsh and the things he was responsible for were horrific. The Reformation and Dissolutions were some if the most bloodthirsty times in our history...and that is going some ! 
But what Elizabeth I did topped even dear old Daddy ! 
So much death and fear during the reign of the Tudors....and they shouldn't even have been on the darn Throne in the first place.

Come now becs - you cannot be that bloodthirsty.   Was Elizabeth Bathory not the Hungarian Countess - who was notorious for killing allegedly hundreds of girls  and even known as the female Count  Dracula?  
When I was in  St Petersburg on holiday yhe tour guides told us that  Catherine was the one whoincorproated UKraine and added huge territories to Russia.  She had a son Paul - whoi succeeded her - but even that son was allegedly the sone ofone of the Russian Generals  (Potemkin?)  who helped here gaining the throne by murdering her husband.   She had other children as well, but they were sent to the then American colony of England - with a wetnurse and a caretaker - and was looked for financially as long as she was alive.  
Her son Paul  - who succeeded her as Empress (Tzarina) was also murdered because he was strongly pro-Prussian and very unpopular as a result.
One thing I saw - which was most impressive was a tolilet set of 200 pieces made for Catherine as a wedding present from Lousi XV of France.   They made th set and destroyed the mold - so that it could never be made again.
Another story the Russians told me was in the 1970's there was a leader of the Communist Party in  St Petersburg - funny enough his surname was also Romanov.   His daughter was getting married and they used the dinner service of Catherine the Great at the reception and broke some plates.  Romanov vanished from the face of the earth and never heard of again.

I added something more about Russia.  Incidentally you should use the pics of one of the other two Elizabeths - 
*   Elizabeth (Sisi)  the wife of E mporer Franz Joseph of Austria - the most beiautiful women in Europe; or
*   Elizabeth - the sister of Alexandra, wife of Nicholas 11 - who married a Russian Archduke - also a really beautiful women

And the perception of beauty alters so drastically that what was once thought the epitome of female beauty is now considered quite ugly...and often, seen to be very dangerous...think arsenic to whiten skin and lead to line ones eyes. I also think the term "Rubenesque" really would simply be thought of as obese, morbidly so in some cases today. Yet that was the height of beauty at the time.
It really is such an interesting topic, perception and also the fads and fashions one feels one must adhere to. 
No, I suppose I will have to bite the bullet and post a picture of the real me, when I can manage it. I don't have any on my iPad and I truly am very camera shy, unlike my half sister ! So I'll have to download one from my laptop, when I can.
You'll just have to be kind to me....then again, dear old Boklogic, or Misnomer Boy, as I like to call him, has told everyone what to expect. That I am the most hideous woman alive. Which is kind if him, considering he's never seen me !! At least he has prepared you all !

One of my friends in Chicago comes from a family of Russian Jews. They all had to flee Russia when she was a child. She is my age, 40, and has some stories to tell.
