Looks like Fat Fransie could be on his way back to the Sharks and possibly still get into the RWC squad.

This article indicates that he's lost 10kg . . . (what is a professional sportsman doing carrying an extra 10kg I ask myself) . . . but it's not so much Fat Fransie's girth that worries me, it's his insistence on kicking possession away along those interminable "droppies" that he keeps trying.

Just when I was celebrating Joke White's departure I get this terrible news!

Stay in Japan, Fransie!

PS I was away this weekend but well done to Wales on a deserved victory and hard luck to Jean de Villiers who seems to have started and ended his test career with a terrible injury.

Yeah well, Meyer is all about experience, isn't he, lets select a player with an attitude just because he has experience.

By the way, when last has anyone seen Grumpy Steyn smile on a rugby field?

"By the way, when last has anyone seen Grumpy Steyn smile on a rugby field?"

Apart from the fact that he seems a naturally sulky person, fat Fransie hasn't done much on the field to smile about.

The good news is that Venter is the Sharks consultant and he is not about to accept substandard play from Fat Fransie at center.   He is likely to reach the same conclusion as Plumtree did - namely that Fransie is no center.
He is a no-hoper at flyhalf and will not play there.   Maybe the Sharks will play him at full back - where the slow thinker will have more time to work out options - but his pace deficiency will be a drawback, so will be his dodgy knee.
The Sharks brought in a New Zealand coach to deal with the poor backline play of the Sharks as was evident this year - but Fat Fransie was not there.   I am afraid that His Sulkinesswould destroy all the good work done by the NZ coach - and that Fransie - an expert in killing abckline play - would not have responded to the  NZ coach's advice.
Patience will show whether the 10 kgs weight loss - he may get to 105 kgs - his ideal playing weight - in time, but is still likely to be over that limit at this stage.   Hav a positive thought - Fransie will not be prtected by th enw coaching set-up - like White did in his case.

Frans is the best 12 South Africa has produced in the last twenty four years. He is a tremendous competitor, with a complete skillset. Give him Pollard and Du Preez on the inside and de Jongh on his outside and we are a force. You criticise him, but what 12 in South Africa gives us more options? We simply don't have anyone close to him.

 Letsal
I rather believe Plumtree when eh says Frans is not a center at all - when he sacked him from the team..   The only thing he made alive in the WC in 2007 was his missed tackle on Tate and the three other missed tackles in the same game.
Our Fransie has the most devastingly poor performance of any center in Super 15 last year and he was even worse this year.
I am going to compile a full statistical record on our Fransiet his year and put it up for you and your fellow moron Mozart to try and explain away.    That really should be funny - the dunces trying to dream up excuses.

Lestat, you are right, he would never attempt a drop goal in the opposition 22, he'd be WAAAAAY to busy crash balling, every single time he got the ball!
Even if Frans could again be the unpredictable player he was in 2007, which I am 99% sure he can't, he won't fix any of the problems we have at centre. Reason being, we are covered at 12's, its at 13 that the cupboard is bare!

Hell, Lestat, I wonder how you view and assess players.

Frans steyn may once promised to be the best, and granted he had a good 2011 RWC, but apart from that he has been poorly conditioned, out of form and grumpy the last 3 years

He's an untalented sod with an ego bigger than Mozart's ... only difference is that he doesn't have the Bugatti Veyron.

He's prone to blood rushes and utter foolishness.

He's not a 10, nor a 12, nor a 15 ... in fact he's probably one of the worst rugby players to don the Bok jersey.

The good news is that he's not coming to the Lions.

Well Ihave finally done the Stats nd our Fransie looks ver bad at the ten games he played at 12:-

Your hero has a very distinguished record of not making 1 line break - of beating five defenders in 10 games (all 5 in the first two games in Super 15 - zero in the other 8 games) - of losing ball possession 17 times (mostly through aimess kicking) - of being penalized 10 times - and of being unable to carry balls effectively as a center.   All signs that he is bloody useles and a killer of backline play - and Letsal and Mozart wants him in the Springbok team.

Frans Steyn has been poor. He is no longer the player he once was. He now has to prove he can come back.

I for one welcome him back to the Sharks anytime.
This guy is a natural #12.....strong, not afraid and with a might kick.
Class player.

A class player would do 100% better than Steyn did sine 2012.  This year he made no line breaks at center - the only 12 who did not make at least one line break in  Super 15 - he scored no tries - again the only cneter who did not in any  SA franchise in  Super 15 and he lost possession more than any other center in all franchses in Super 15.   If that represents what a class player is able to do - he must be welcomed back by teams opposing the Sharks to weaken their backline.
Plumtrrre was right when he said the guy is NO center.

The stat that you didn't calculate OOMpie was what the Sharks record was with and without Steyn. If you check that out you will find they did best with Frans at flyhalf, even though many of those games were on tour in NZ. Including the famous win over the Saders.

As for your stats they have been wrong so often, they can't be trusted.

I did not include th stats at flyhalf - it was even worse from a defensive perspective and he made one line break in all the games he played there.
Balls - those stats are correct and that is the problem - the bugger was totally useless and that is a fact.   Go and check them i- if you can ptrve they are wrong - then prove it - don't make a bS remark.
However, you can check the stats if you want to  - but you won't because it portrays a totally useless ceneter and a worse flyhalf.
However, you require from a player to be a goalkicker - he can be a complete cock-up for the rest.
Incidentally the fat slob played in all games - he did not miss a single one - and there record was worse wen he ruined the backline.

Like I said a class player. He was screwed around between #15, #10 and #12 by coaches who were out of touch of his real worth and the modern day game.
I rest my case.

You are entitled to your opinion - and so are the Kings Park crowd - who stayed away  frpm Sharks matches this year - because of the dead backline syndrome that hit the Sharks hard this year.   Mostly to blame are  Fransie - he only played at 10 and 12 this year.
As a Sharks supporter - I am strogly against Fat Fransie in the backline.   but suppose I would have to live with that disaster.
