The two leading rugby authorities were supported in thsi by Divan Swerfontein another in the know about scrummies!

Ex Sport 24

Cape Town - Former Springbok coach Nick Mallett says Stormers fullback Cheslin Kolbe should play scrumhalf if he wants to have an international career. iT VERY OBVIOUS OAKS)

Mallett was speaking in the SuperSport studio after the Stormers' 29-13 Super Rugby victory over the Sharks at Newlands on Saturday night.

Kolbe played another stellar game for the Stormers, but he was man-handled at times, particularly by Sharks centre Frans Steyn. (hE IS A TOUGH LITTLE GUY BUT HE WILL NOT LAST. HE IS BEING TARGETED AND WATCHED CLOSELY BY OPPOSING BACKS)

At 1.71m Kolbe is a small player and Mallett fears he's won't be picked at fullback at international level because of his size.

"I keep asking myself, is he being played in the right position? Will he become an international fullback? In the present South African system, they’ll never pick him because he’s too small," said Mallett.

"He’s the same height and weight as Aaron Smith. Smith is playing for the All Blacks and is one of the best scrumhalves in the world. Kolbe played No 9 at sevens - he’s got brilliant ability around the fringes. (AS I HAVE BEEN SAYING FOR A LONG TIME)

"Forwards are slow, they’re not as agile as backline players, so his ability to step forwards around the fringes is far greater than in the wide open spaces where he’s up against other backline players. (EXACTLY SO)

"We’ve given opportunities to Francois Hougaard, Cobus Reinach and Sarel Pretorius, so why not Kolbe? He’s got more pace than any of them, he’s got a devastating boot, he’s very dangerous and he’s got a good pass." (AS I SAID HE HAS ALL THE ATTRIBUTES TO BE A WOLRD CLASS SCRUMMIE!!!)

Divan Serfontein actually sent in a text agreeing with Mallet when that halfwit Ashwin Willemse of the sterile comment  tried to argue against the idea.

Kolbe must move to scummie soonest!

His breaks on Saturday came from around the ruck on stationary ball, which supports the idea of trying him at scrummie. His passing would need to improve. The few times he has been at the base of the ruck his passes have been very average.
I don't see it happening during the S15. Too much at stake with a 4-0 record.

It purely depends on how well he can pass. Being small is not going to make him a good scrumhalf

Keep him at fullback where he's been performing best. He'll turn into another Hougaard if he goes to Scrumhalf as there's finer arts that can't be taught this late in life.

Late in life opines ou Cheaser!!! Cheslin is 21!!!!!!!
As Snapster says he pass in sevens at scrummie have been very good.It will be rank stupidity to keep him at 15. Hence we have Mallet and Divan Serfontein agreeing re Kolbe at scrummie.
Kolbe is 80 kg and cant really bulk up more. Its scrummie for him. Cheslin take this advice from Beeno and you will soar to great hights.

It's a whole different world at scrumhalf compared to fullback, things you learn when through playing rugby at a time where the consequences of mistakes weren't severe, allows oneself to become a scrumhalf.
Kolbe's technique is flawless, remember in the Currie Cup last year where a forward was broke free to the try line with only Kolbe standing in his way and Cheslin went high and wrapped him up. He's a fullback, quell your obsession with size and see what's clear.

As much as I agree with Shezza that there's some measurable attributes needed at scrummie but surely it's worth a try? He could potentially be a game changer for the Boks, a true replacement for Du Preez.
He's talented, no doubt!

More ignorance at play. Hougaard has always been a 9 and is our best 9.
Mallett is spot on Kolbe will never achieve higher honours if he stays at 15 - he is too small. Move him to 9 so that he can be another Hougaard.
