I was watching Boots & All tonight and aftr some cricism of the backline plays by Nkumane - Campese was milder and indicated that the backline cannot do anything with the balls they are getting - other than to imply the service was slow and there were too many forwards standing around in the backline.

They then showed the Springboks in training in Johannesburg -  excellent preparation area for play in Perth on sea level with a climate matching that of Cape Town.   The clip showed the Springboks standing in a circle and pass the ball from one to another - nothing else.

Question is - is that he way they are trained in ball-handling?

 Apparently Potgieter was calling the backline moves in the game with Argentina

Would definitely not be surprised - th moves were so comivally ineffective that the calls could come from a Mapara like Potgieter. Your postings are jewels of great balue - keep it coming

@clevermike,
i am very close with mills muliaina, or should i say i am very close with his younger brother and throughout the years i have managed to chat with mills and one thing i asked him about, was the little training segments they do on TV, what they do for the cameras, is nothing like what they do behind closed doors. he said most of the time they know cameras will be around, the assitant coach will come and tell them to do drills that are several years old or they make up something on the spot, it was more to be safe then sorry, especially as rugby is a very analytical enviroment and camra footage lasts forever.
while i wouldnt have a clue if it is the same with the Boks, i wouldnt be surprised, cos standing in a circle sounds like something someone made up on the spot, lol.

 @all- I have heard from a reliable source that Meyers boks play the game Hot Potato for skills development- so this tv clip was probably for the benefit of the camera.

Morne allways tries to kick the Potato, Frans Steyn tries to eat it to starve the wings from possesion, whilst Kirchner still has not been able to understand the game.

@sharkbok hahahahahahaha @your profile pic......old GHD potgieter must be honoured to have his face on your avatar

love the posts i must admit....i reckon if you look at the backline moves io reckon frana might be bagin a whole pocket of potatoes hahahah

its tough to say how they aproach ball handeling drills. to be fair then i say the boks training here in cape town i saw no drills of any kind. i saw a lof of shadow games....a whole lot of kicking and the forwards just testing there scrums. no other training of any kind. i agree with sasue they tend to keep there cards close to there chest when the public can view there training but surely just normal drills cant be such a huge mystery. set moves one can understand but just standing in a circle means nothing really.
