Think about it. The two guys who were supposed to replace him McLaren and Parnell are zeroes. They have had plenty of chances, but it's not happening. Farhaan  has the best first name in cricket, but is second string. Duminy who some are convinced can bowl 10 overs was carted yesterday and failed the handkerchief test for off spinners time and again.

Kallis is not who he was. But he can still bowl a line and choose the right ball. Coming in at seven I suspect he'd make a ton of runs.

This is a far better option, you need one genuine all rounder and the old boy still has more to offer than anybody else. Currently he ranks second in batting and second in bowling for the Sydney Thunder ....nobody is suggesting he should be part of the team after the CWC, but  for one last shot at glory I would back Kallis.

I've been really impressed with how Kallis is holding up in the Big Bash, decent runs and decent bowling too.
But the team needs to get on without him, it's how we'll grow and get better.
The fifth bowler is providing some headaches, but JP and Faf should be enough for 10, even AB and Rossouw can contribute if needs be.

Whats the cricket coverage like in the US, Mozart? do you get most of the matches or do you have to stream them online or watch highlights?

The biggest load of balls written in ages.   " Kallis is not who he was. But he can still bowl a line and choose the right ball. Coming in at seven I suspect he'd make a ton of runs.".
After a string of poor batting and a situation that he did not bowl at all in the last series he was involved in - and after his contract with Colcatta Night Riders was not renewed, but most importantly, after Kallis announced he is not competitive enough anymore  - this moron suggests that Kallis be brought back in.
On what would that silliness be based?    Reputation alone - since his performance ability is a goner?  But then we are dealing here with the idiot who support Matfield's selection - so what else can be expected from him?

I see OOm after being totally wrong about the age of the best ODI players that you are back here insulting your betters. Of course you never had the decency to apologize for all those insults....you just slimed away. Stupid old coot.
Daddy we have a channel called Willow which is cricket 24 hours a day. It caters mostly to the big Indian community in the USA, so tomorrow's ODI is preempted by India vs the Poms, but I will get an hour of highlights. Still with any luck one gets the whole thing, it's a life changer.

By the way APD, the future will take care of itself....what we should care about for the next two months is winning the WC. This is not the time to blood new talent....it's the time to put our best 11 on the field.
I would have no problem if one of the all rounders made a case....but we have diminutive all rounders, and a bunch of batsmen, who are in truth very vulnerable bowlers. Ten overs from JP and FAF could easily knock us right out of the CWC.
Kallis is the the only choice I can see if we are serious and not in a fantasy world.

Mozart is in his standard fantasy world - where the world never change and where players remain the same for ever.   who can argue against that idiocy?

Kallis will go down in history as one of our best.

He has however retired and rightly so ... it's time to move on.

Kallis would have been far better than any of the allrounders we have now.

But you are wrong about JP, he has NOT failed the off spinners test.....in fact he has perfect flight, good action and at least turns the ball a little unlike some specialist off spinners.

The fact that he was expensive in his last game is hardly the measure of the lad now is it. His stats for the past two years have been good for a part timer, therein lies the measure.

I am more than confident, JP is the man for the job. As an off spinner myself, JP has the credentials to do a job. He is a better bowler than Robin Petersen, a specialist.

The stats tell the true story

JP the part timer is all of 0.5 runs per over more expensive than the specialist spinners in the squad and his strike rate is pretty much the same as theirs except for Tahir our best spinner

Tahir has an economy rate of 4.41 per over and a strike rate of 28.9

Petersen is 4.90 per over and 43.7

Phasingo is 4.44 and 46.2

JP is 5.06 and 49.9......and this would be as a result of his early career. His stats in the last 2 years would be lower than this

Case closed

My biggest fear is that our attack would be too predictable hence the reason I've been itching to see De Lange get a run.

Fortunately Morne is varying his bowling and I've regained my confidence in him, still I don't see use of a slower ball, cutters and Yorkers.

It's a concern.

There is actually not a lot to choose between Duminy and Peterson when it comes to ODI bowling. Peterson is ahead though.

Unless they'd brought back Kallis, an idea I mooted a few weeks ago, I'd have to say JP is our allrounder, an average one at that but he remains our only choice.

JP is a damn good bat and more than handy enough spinner.......he is our best bet by some distance......we play 7 specialist bats, 4 specialist bowlers and one part time bowler in JP........the option that SA is thinking of going with is including useless Berhardien ahead of the talented Rossouw.......its a no brainer

I agree de Lange should be in the squad ahead of Abbott, who is not only dog ordinary but panics when bowling at the end of the innings. I can't say I have seen much of Duminy, but  what I've seen is not encouraging....I think this is the weakest link in our game plan.

In all honesty = we do not have a really good all-rounder in the squad.   I reelly think the better option would have been Stiaan Van Zyl  -  a good batsman and reasonable bowler.
Behardien and Parnell are just not good enough.   However nobody denies that Kallis was a great player - but he is not really an option anymore.
The Proteas  have two options - both has negatives aplenty -
*   weaken your batting option and bring in a poor batsman who is a poor bowler as well; or
*    strengthen your batting line up and spread the fifth bowler option between three or even four players.
I would go the second route.   It normally takes batsmen a few balls at least to get used to a different bowler and if he bowls one or maximum two overs at a time - the damage would not be that great.

JP as a bowler is certainly not a strength. He is there to do a holding job. No doubt he will be targeted but therein lies the opportunity to take wickets for he is more than a part time spinner as my stats clearly evidence.
He is on par with the majority of the spinners playing in the WC some of them being specialist bowlers. JP is without doubt the weak link in the bowling attack but he is no worse than the weak links in the other sides.
The major difference is that JP is a quality ODI bat these days and therein lies his strength.

Containment will be JP's role, he'll bowl the odd loose ball and will be punished but I don't believe he's going to leak runs to the detriment of the team. The bog ordinary Abbott will be a liability.

Kallis provides the balance - but being typ ically stupid and race obsessed our best team will not be on the park. As per usual!

Beenkop you thick prick, Kallis has retired......he was not available for selection - wake up.

Exactly Denny, JP's runs per over are all of a half more than some of the specialist spinners in the WC

The notion that JP cant do the job is complete rubbish......he has proved the opposite in the last 2 years
