To be brutally honest, stats don't really tell you the full story. It is better to look at if the player caused line breaks, lost possession, simply just look at stats.
I don't think kolisi is bok material. He simply doesn't fit into the modern game or able to compete against the top loose forwards. If I look at his counter parts, I think he is a liability.
For example, Sam Kane, Ardie Savea, Pocock, Hooper, Pablo Mentera, Tom Curry. He simply doesn't match up to any of these players.
Just go watch the game when the boks beat the AB again. Kolisi failed to stop a forward drive and got swathed away. The look at the last 15 min of the game when Louw comes. He stopped multiple forward drives.
Then look at the 2 players after that game. Louw looks like he just stepped of the boxing ring where as Kolisi looks like he hasn't even been on the field.

Agreed, King ... stats is a farce and so many ignorant posters love to use in an attempt to sounds knowledgeable.
As an example .. player A tackles player B and is credited with the tackle, however, he doesn't release the player and is blown up for this transgression. The opposition thump the ball out on the 5m line and drive over for a try in the corner which is then converted ... 7 points later ...
Did the tackle benefit his team ... ?

Fetchers in SA are as rare as hen's teeth...yes there was Heinrich Brussouw sometime back and Deon Stegmann (don't know what happened to him) and there's still Louw at Bath and Marcel Coetzee who I would still like to see in the Springbok mix but other than that there's lean pickings.
Remember the days of classic fetchers like AB Michael Jones and Josh Kronveld and Englands Neil Back.
LOL Perhaps the only fetcher we have now is CC's wee pooch

At the moment our team can compete with the best team in the world...the Allblacks. Something in that team makes it possible. The team is greater than the sum of the parts. Kolisi is pary of that TEAM...as is Eben, PSDT and even DdA. Mess too much with that team and you break that something special. We have a young team, that can only evolve into something better, but it must be a natural gradual process.
Our year end tour was no desaster either. We should have beaten the Poms and we never fell apart in the games we lost, like we did 2 years ago....and this team will probably never lose against Japan. There are lots of positives to focus on, but we tend to hammer on the negatives.
No wonder our NZ friends are a bit shy of late, we even complain about their "unnatural " positivity about anything NZ.

Moz, I never felt comfortable with him even playing for the Stormers, but something worked for the TEAM last RC. I'm saying something obviously worked, so we should be cautious in making changes.

The 2 most effective loose forwards we have at the breakdown are Louw and Vermeulen- even if both are past their best.
Kolisi is a small number 7- and he has to be on the pitch somewhere for transformation objectives. He does have some pace, so at least that could complement the ageing duo at 6 and 8.
Stephanie will need to go to the bench or play lock. Kolisi could leave the field after 50 minutes, and Vermeulen could take over the captaincy.
The Sharks game and the Stormers team today proved that we need a back row that contributes to the breakdown. Most of our backs just do not have the skill level to create space for the outside backs - unless there are turnovers, and when gaping holes are punched through by the forwards.
Marx, Vermeulen and Louw could get turnovers and help clean out rucks quickly.

Fair point.....but it's also possible the ABs were just not that good. We got them on the return from Bargie land....away. And our loss at home was typical of the last few years. We lost by 2 points in 2015 and 2017, and won at home in 2014. So our loss by 2 points in 2018 seems like it's not unusual.
It's clear, the whole Rassie improvement thing hinges on that one away win against NZ.
So, much as I believe in incremental changes....I don't think we have a prayer if we don't find new solutions at loosie and in the centre.

We did more than just win the ABs in NZ, we did so under pressure. And we backed it up with a stellar performance against them at Loftus...spoiled by injuries and poor subs.
We have a young team competing....the last time we had that was in 2004.
Meyer managed to be competitive in a RWC with the most experienced Bok team ever. Rassie beat the AB's in NZ with a Q team ...and a young one at that. Yess, there are lots of room foor improvement, but we are not in the dire straits just yet. We wont win the RWC this year though

Fetchers aren't as rare as one might think, we have Roelof Smit but he's injury prone. We also had Chris Cloete but he got snatched up by Munster, he looked really promising and of course Jaco Kriel but he was wasted by us.
Also centers in modern rugby need to have a capacity in the breakdown, as evidenced by Am's turnovers stats for the Sharks this year. What frustrates me with our Super Rugby teams is the length of time it takes for the team to clean out rucks and how many players we commit to the breakdown. We are committing far too many players and they are often late in arriving at the ruck.

Shezza, would be happy with Marcel Coetzee included in SA Squad but not sure if he is fit and well.
We have a divided country because of Kolisi...personally I don't have too much of a problem with him as a player but there are many more candidates imho that are better.
What I do have a huge problem with however is the REASONS why he is in the team as captain...this is absolute nonsense.

Seb, that we don't know....probably the same reasons Francois Pienaar got the nod and Tiaan Strauss got kicked out of the 1995 squad, but here are a few things to ponder:
- What we do know is that Rassie is probably the best SA coach we could have appointed for the Boks at this time.
- He is privy to much more information than any of us.
- The team and squad is close to the best we can get to within the peramaters set by SARU (not the ANC).
- Rassie and the team chose Siya Kolisi....for a reason.
- He has the backing of the other seniors in the team...and he uses them to consult.
- Early days still and they have some ways to go but they have already shown some character, heart and grit...and this is only the beginning.
- Eben

PS, don't be too surprized if we don't do too well in the RC this year. The focus ATM will be to get the team ready to beat the Paddies...we already know how to beat the other lot, but Ireland has been a thorn for some years now...since the Jake White debacle back in the day.
I'm looking forward to this RWC...and the next one too.
