So Carter has signed for Racing Metro. That does end some debate on this board that Goosen would be first choice following the departure of Jonny S exton.

Who will play off the bench when they are both injured?

Carter is nowadays more injured than available to play and when he does make an appearance it is often enough sub-par.   His reputation got him that contract - whether he will play is another question.
Goosen has gone through 2014 without any serious injury at all - even though Mozart called him injured after every match.  He suffered a minor injury during the Jne test series and then went off to Racing Metro where he was never injured - playing top class rugby.
So what will happen after the WC?  Nobody knows.
One thing is for certain Goosen is likely to be in the Springbok WC squad and Steyn will only be in the squad if Meyer has lost all his remaining marbles.

From a business perspective, I would never sign Goosen to any rugby team. Certainly not where I was the one being held accountable for effective use of company finances.

Per minute played, Jean Deysel was the most expensive rugby player in South Africa (without anybody even noticing it) for about 2 years running. I am sure Goosen isn't signed on a AAA grade contract, however even if he isn't I would like to see what the actual per minute value for money is on him.

When you pay someone X per month, its X per month regardless of whether they work 1 minute or 160 hours in that month.

I watched some of the game last week he played against an English team- Sale Sharks I think.
He was looking good at the start of the games and found allot of space. Hopefully he remains injury free. He may even find himself as first choice if his kicking game is the better of Lambie and Pollard. He has much more distance on his territorial kicking. (Touch finders and tactical kicking.)
How about a combination of
10. Goosen12. Pollard13. JP14. Kolbe/Senetala15. Le Roux11. Habana
It would have lots of attacking clout.
although my last team list could be more physical.
10. Pollard- 100kg12. Delande- 106kg13. JP- 106kg14. Kolbe/Senetala15 Le Roux11 Habana
I still want to see Senatala play in the SuperXV to look at his game in more detail. At the moment Kolbe seems a more allround player.

The final decision on some positions will have to be decided during Super 15 next year. I doo not think that weight aklone should playa role in selections and there frankly are some players whose performances over the past year has been questionable.
I think that the centr choice - if Jean is not aavilable - will be Serfontein 1t 12 and De Allende at 13.   Pietersen has a speed deficiency and his defense is seriously questionable.   Meyer asked the Stormers to play De Allende at 13 - but in view of De Villiers injury - that would be unlikely to happen.   However, there is still a possibility that the Stormers may comply - they have used Taute reasonably well at 12 in the last couple of CC matches and they may continue to use him at 12 in future.
With all due respect I cannot see Kolbe making the squad.   He is just too small to make the grade - this one should stick to 7's rugby - where the players are generally smaller than in the 15 man game.-  too much of a defensive risk that one. I can see that WP will use him at full back in the upcoming Super 15 - With Senatla and Van Wyk on the wing.
The dark horse n the set-up could be Van Wyk - he was the top wing for the Stormers in CC and he is really a center playing on the wing.   Would really like to see how a center combination of De Allende and Van Wyk perform for the Stormers - that may be a serious canswer to our problem at 13.

H I have noticed that ou Maaikie has neatly side-stepped the post with an article on another thread. The article clearly states that Carter is the replacement for Se.xton. It also mentions that French national, Remi Talles, was also signed recently. So, that makes one wonder where it leaves Goosen, particularly since Racing also have the services of French flyhalf Benjamin Dambielle.
So, in a nutshell...... Racing Metro first went after Matt Giteau and offered him the biggest pay check yet. When that failed they signed Carter for the biggest pay check in pro rugby, to date.
If we had to believe ou Maaikie, Racing Metro would have Goosen as their first choice flyhalf, replacing previous first choice Se.xton, while having Carter as his back-up and pay him (Carter) the biggest salary in pro rugby. Strange indeed.

So if Racing is not wanting Goosen anymore, they would try an off-load him - like Stade frncais tried to do with Steyn.  Is there any sign of that at this stage?
Are they going to end up with two problem cases at flyhalf?   Carter has played a very few games during this year - and when he did play he was not of much good.   So they have signed him on reputation only - and then they also signed the Castres flyhalf  - also showing very little this year.
They may yet end up with a player who is past his sell-by date like Carter and have a player on their hands drawing big money and not get value for him.   It may be a similar scenario like happened in the case of Morne Steyn costing Stade Francais dearly - Racing Metro may just going the same way.
I wonder whether Racing is going to try and off-load Goosen to another club - or whether they are going to keep him as insurance?   They may want to play hi at full back - but that would only happen if their flyhalfs are good enough.

Mike, you keep on ducking and diving and you have been doing so since Goosen's move to Racing Metro. Your take has always been that Goosen is the successor for Se.xton and that he was always going to replace him. You have accused me of all kinds of BS whenever I told you that RM has not found their replacement and that that replacement was not Goosen.

Hopefully this article now puts this argument to bed:

All Black Dan Carter – rugby's first £1m-a-year player

Racing had previously considered moving for Matt Giteau to replace Jonathan Se.xton, who is returning to Leinster at the end of this season. Giteau instead signed to a lucrative new contract worth £700,000 a season at Toulon in September, paving the way for Carter to become the world’s highest-paid player. He will be earn €1.5million (about £1.2 million) a year, even though Racing have also recently announced the signing of Remi Tales, the France stand off.

It should be clear, by now, that Goosen is just one of a number of RM fly halves and that he will probably be third (or even fourth) in line after the 2015 RWC.

It is also interesting that you are now suggesting that he could end up at 15. Remember how you crapped in your best dress when I made that suggestion?

The OOM is ducking and diving. But imagine the embarrassment. In comes 32 year old Daniel Carter to captain the ship.   Just another example of how savvy international coaches see the value of mature players.

Guess who is ducking and diving - not me.  I said that I wonder whether - like the case was ith Stade Francais and Morne Steyn - Racing Metro ends up with a dud signing in Dan Carter.   Carter did not play much rugby this year - was constantly injured - and when he did play his performances were patchy and in fact in his last game poor - which was blamed on lack of game time this year.
The duckers and divers were the two morons - who did not have the guts to response to that issue.    They accuse me of ducking and diving - but why not repond to factual statements on Carter and their love one - Morne Steyn?
What happened is a guess by Mozart that Carter may end up as captan of  Racing Metro - and that that would embarrass me - a wild assumption.   The  Club may do what it wishes - but may end up with a nearly 34 year-old dud.    Even if they start off with him as captain - if he under-performs - he will not last.
Please note that the great Johnnie  Wilkinson retired before he reached the age of 35 years - so what will be the length of productive rugby for Carter?   I do know that the leading Moron thinks the older players get - they better they perform - so I suppose for him this would not be an issue.
The embarrassment will be for the moron pair if the signing of Carter - like the case was with Stade Francais and Morne Steyn - turned into a very expensive damp squip for Racing Metro, so watch what happens in the Carter case after the WC next year.

Here's the thing OOm, Carter can be at 40 per cent, and he would still be a better bet to lead a backline than Goosen. Racing Metro know that, or perhaps they are also just biased against your picks you dumb plank.

Balls - and that is his normal with Mozart.   Carter has been injured constantly and on a downward slide over the past two years and if one bears in mind his latest game - the story is clear - he was a dead loss.
If Racing Metro wanted to get rid of Goosen - they would have done so already - but unlike Stade Francais tried with Morne Steyn, they have not dnoe anything in that regard.
The plank on this site is the moron who picks Francois Steyn as his top flyhalf and goes further with Morne Steyn as a potential ack-up.

" So if Racing is not wanting Goosen anymore, they would try an off-load him - like Stade frncais tried to do with Steyn."

Interesting take on it when you don't give the correct facts.

Let's give the correct facts.

1) Two other clubs indicated that they were interested in Steyn's services.
2) Stade Francais replied and said that they would be willing to let Steyn go, if they were able to reach an amicable solution (i.e. pay Stade Francais lots of money.)
3) Steyn indicated that he was not interested in going to another club at this stage, but will complete his contract with Stade Francais

So, Stade Francais did not WANT to off-load Steyn, but two other clubs WANTED Steyn.

Mike, Carter is no longer the player he was and Racing have spent a lot of money unnecessarily. They have in Goosen a class act and should use him.Carter has a big chance of being injured again. H ehas become a ver yfragile player. Goosen on the other hand has not been injured and apepars to have toughened up as one might expect. He was a kid palying with men when he started. Racing clearly have bought Dan on reputation and not form over the last few years.
40% of Carter may make a local third team club side.
I am sure even that well known amateur Doc Craven would agree!  Bwahahahahahahahahaha

The issue is not whether Carter is still fit to play or on crutches. The real issue is that ou Maaikie had it that Goosen would have been Jonathan Se.xton's successor. Even when RM was trying to sign Matt Giteau, he kept on arguing that Goosen was the man. The question remains.... if Goosen was the man, why would they sign two other international fly halves, and one of them for a record amount, even though said player is apparently "over the wall".
Apart from the above ou Maaikie (and his mate Cheesecake) had the fits when it was suggested that Goosen could end up at fullback. Now, suddenly, ou Maaikie himself, is contemplating the possibility of Goosen moving to fullback. That in itself is not necessarily a bad thing. One of our best fullbacks, Johan Heunis, was as at home at 10 as he was at 15 and even on the wing, where he started his international career. It is only ou Maaikie's "image" that would take dent, should that happen. Could it be that posibility that caused our friend to warm to the idea of Goosen at fullback?

I think ou maaaikie would have been correct if Racing hadnt made an unexpected error of judgement.Certainly re Morne hs club was willing to release him. It was not a c ase of no ways he must stay with us.

Beeno, answer this one question. If Goosen was the be all and end all that ou Maaikie had been trying to make him out to be, why hasn't RM stopped searching for a replacement for Se.xton until they have signed both Tales and Carter. Remember that, apart from Goosen, they also have Dambielle.

Will it have clout? Really? Why? When will fans learn to see attacking rugby from more than a list of names on a piece of paper? It becomes even more bizarre when you all propose the same players that have show the least aptitude or skills for attacking rugby.

 Letsl
That is not a bad backline but for JP at 13 - a real defending disaster looming.   I would not consider Pietersen at present unless he can get some of the pace he lost over the last two years back.   Pollard at 12 may not be the right choice either - he  is a 10 and when playing on lower level at 12 (Under 20's, Varsity Cup and Vodacom Cup) - he was not all that sparkling.
When will you start seeing players selected based on their thinking ability and variation in play and n ot just a list of players?
