One of the great no name performances I can remember. This kid made his tackles and kept his cool. That left footed drop was maybe the ugliest kick over the poles I have ever seen, but viewed through a Weerprobeer supporter's eyes.....it was damn majestic! Well done kiddo!

Yes Moz, hats of to the Cat  not a big guy at all but very gutsy and a cool head. Looks like they should have kept him here?

Don Armand also a no name player who did a good job.

Bye the way can you ever remember a 20 year old lock as good as Etzebeth? Was the young Bakkies this good.. I think Bakkies when younger was very pacy.

As for Bresler his stakes could not have risen after the lineout issues the sharks had although they are blaming Burden's throw ins. Reinach also was shut down as was the whole sharkies backline. Shows again meywer fouled up in not appointing Rasie's man Nieaber.

Ou rooitwit must be devastated and boklogic no doubt is drowning his sorrows. Bad day for the guppies!!

Mozart

I think the Stormers made a huge mistake - they should have kept Catrakillis and forget about Jantjies.   The latter would have been a dead loss today.

That drop goal was ridiculous!

Not only left footed, but had to make a move around a player to switch to his left foot. Most guys would have abandon the drop goal at that point, but no, he goes ahead and kicks it, and nails it.

Sad to see him go.  He played his youth rugby at the Lions and then left for Racing Metro where he was coached by none other than Andrew Mehrtens ( if my sources are correct). And he is only 23.  He would have been the perfect option for the Stormers type of play.  Instead they tried to make Grant, who is more of a running halfback, a kicking one.  Did not work.

Jantjies has lots of talent, but is sometimes too precarious. Almost like....like a candle in the wind.

catrakilis has got some mean skills all right, and i wonder if the stormers are regretting their desicion to let him go.

i agree, most would have given up on that drop goal, but he showed a lot of composure and stuck to his guns and voila,
he is continuing the saffa tradition of good quality flyhalves and also to that long list of talent that the lions have lost throughout the years.
he could have been a very valuable asset for the stormers in 2013, but i still have faith that janties wiill deliver the goods.

Sasue

Your faith is obviosuly stronger than mine.   I have no faith insofar as Jantjies is concerned - so lets leave it at that.

Ha ha Beeno, well done to WP. They played much better. Came close in the end but I feel the Sharks didnt deserve to win so it was fitting that Ludik threw the pass to Lambie and didn't just carry on running straight.

As for your "drowning in my sorrows" comment. Not really hey. I still played golf yesterday (as it was sunny) and had a good round. I love the Sharks to win and do well obviously but I am not as in touch with the Currie Cup as Super rugby. None of the games are aired in NZL so I never know who is even playing, never mind who is playing well. Only from the Semi's did we start getting delayed broadcasting. I am happy for the Province. They needed another cup to go with the massive "SA conference trophy" ;-)

That Left footed drop??? Does that not come from Catrakillis' Football background. On another thread I read he played for Moroka Swallows Junior side. Never knew the kid could do it with both feet, that is extraordinary.

demetri has some great players giving him so advice in his early years like andrew merthens and wilko so his performance in the final does not surprize me at all. its only shocking that wp has not given him a full go in the years that he has been there. van aswegen and that kurt coleman plonker have all been given more game time than him. when the kings finish the super rugby comp next year he might be a great buy in my view. very skillfull player. might need to work on some attacking options but has otherwise is very rounded

Carpet, I think the main reason for them not going with Demetri as frontline flyhalf mostly has to do with his pace. Demetri is not the fastest of players, although he has a really steady head on him and can put a ball on a tikki he has limitations.

i agree ek.....but at first 5/8 one does not really need flat out speed nothing that a few pylometric training cant fix. he can get at least a second on a 100m sprint max if he gets some proper training.

stil i think he has shown some great temprament in a big game.

well i still think he is a decent buy. one cant blaim him for leaving as WP seem to given him a raw deal over the years

Personally I think it is a better move for him to go to the KINGs than stay at Province. At least at the Kings he will get Superrugby experience as a first Choice Flyhalf, far more gametime. I would have loved to have him stay at province but realistically we can't hold onto all the talent. With Janties playing in the S15 for the stormers next year and Grant Possibly as well Catrakillis would again have had to be content with Vodacom cup rugby. This will also open the door for Timo Swiel to come into the WP squad come CC time next year.

As they say when one door closes another opens.
