Looking at what happened during the first three games in Super 15 and bearing in mind the constant comparisons that is made about Kolbe with Le Roux and others - I am developing serious doubts about Kolbe as a 15 a-side player.  He reminds me of another small player - Russell - who looked good when bursting on the scene and then got found out and vanished from Springbok contention.

He has speed and was initially elusive - but he was found out and his effectiveness has largely disappeared.   He is small compared to players like Paulse, Habana and Aplon - who used the same qualities in an exemplary fashion because they have  better rugby acumen than Kolbe has.

Although it is rather early to form a fixed opinion - I think that Kolbe may turn out to be a good Sevens player - he is physically not  strong enough for the full version of the game.  With Le Roux and Kriel around he is not going to make headway in the 15 man game in any event .

Jesse Kriel needs to be a bok this year, he is the next big thing out of SA. Could be a bok fullback for years. Kolbe needs to put on size but he could lose pace too so I prob agree.

I am a great admirer of Jesse Kriel.  However, I think Willie le Roux is a key player as well.   So I may play Kriel at 13 or 14 where he is equally good - especially since we are struggling to find suitable players.

Kriel is coming along very well. JJ MUST move to wing.
Bulle are getting their selections hopelessly wrong. They could be a real force otherwise.

Kolbe is a class act and punches way above his weight.....the issue is, he should not be playing 15 where his lack of size is easily exposed. Kolbe should be playing on the wing, with EW Viljoen at 15 for now and Taute when he returns from injury.

The Stormers need to dump de Jongh at 13 as well, he was once again exposed physically on the weekend....got turned over twice with ease.

Play Pat Howard at 13 or Kobus v/Wyk when he returns from injury shortly

Kriel is not a bad fullback although I don't think Jesse Kriel is best suited at fullback, he's very good at counter attacking however his kicking game is not good enough to be a long term fullback especially if he was to play at a international level. Jesse Kriel is a natural outside centre 13 as showed in Junior world cup, he has the potential to a be world class outside centre.

The bok centre parring of De Allende at 12 with Jesse Kriel at 13 is the real deal!

Here is one of the tings that I really agree with you 100%.   I also would like to see a De Allende - Kriel center combination - but I think Meyer would chicken out of that one.
Incidentally under another heading where Kriel was raised as well - I mentioned that I would rather see him as a center or even as a wing - with Le Roux at full back.

Nice point Jerome and full of potential. Would like to see an Allende / Kriel combo.
Cheslin is being very closely marked simply because there is no Seabelo and Van wyk who are dangerous runners to also watch closely.
Playing Kolbe on the wing is certainly a possibilty
