After a disastropus batting display by Elgar, Van Zyl and Amla in India they came back to play in the local four-day competition and all three failed in the Sunfoil tournament as well.   Duminy lasted a bit longer - but was also out with 32 runs to his credit.
Amla has been consistently poor since his selection as captain and the team is suffering as a result.

Hey Mike. Problem is, there is nobody else able to lead the team because with Amla, De Villiers and Steyn you are dealing with superstars. Not they they are arrogant or anything, but just, with a those guys one will need another Smith. And Smithy was one in a million. I can't see anyone in the team at the moment who will be able to command the respect that he did. Amla is probably the best choice, and down the line maybe QDK. Also let's not forget Amla was ranked above AB for some time. That kind of quality doesn't just vanish. It'll come back. Still, I think he needs to improve his footwork. I think he needs to get rid of his trigger movement, stay still until delivery and then move. Playing so far away from his body is what has gotten him in the most kak, lately, though granted I didn't watch too much of the India series. How was he being dismissed? My guess is edges and some LBWs to the spinners?

Selecting the best cricketer as captain is not necessarily the way to go.

Clearly Amla is wrong for the job.

Time to find someone competent.

Well Amla is not the best cricketer(I think you mean batsman) in the team, that honour belongs to AB but I'm stumped as to how the poor performance of one batsmen is responsible for the failure of the team.

Aside from Amla, who else do we have that fits the test captain role? I don't see any contenders. I think he is calm enough to get his form back and even he averages only 40 as skipper, that'll do. QDK, in about 3-4 years will be ready to take over since the big three will be retiring by then. Hopefully he is included in the test squads from here on out. Maybe they can give him the vice captaincy in a year or so and start to groom him for.a ten year stint as captain. I feel he'll be able to captain all three squads, which is a good thing. Yet again CC misses the point. Who ever said "take your best player and make him skipper?" I know I said...you need a big gun to captain the team because of the big names present in it. A big gun meaning a good player who also command respect. I think the team naturally have a lot of respect for Amla. Remember how calmly and forgivingly he handled the terrorist comment early in his career. Oh wow, and he is a Muslim. That must sting some haters...to see a Muslim teaching Christians a lesson on humanity. Hell, maybe that's one reason why he is so well like and respected. For once in your life CC...try to understand a post before puking on it. Ok?

Plum, you are acting like the Beeno flipside by dragging Amla's religion into this.
He is not the ideal skipper...he did not want the job...captain by default...IMO Faf has the most grit from the current squad,  but he hasn't covered himself in glory lately. BBB!

ou plumpie is so doctrinaire and silly it beggars belief.Who here complained about Amla being made captain? Not a single person as I recall. Now  this moron brings up the muslim factor. The oaf fails to realise Amla's form has dropped off very noticeably and it may well have a lot to do with the captaincy. Something he had previously said he had not wanted.
Send ou plumpie  to a school for retards where he will no doubt flunk out. Bwhahahahahahaha
Draad why I am the flipside of the very stupid oak who supports muslims at every turn and now also the anc. My comments re muslims have been backed up by showing their beliefs as rooted in the koran.  The dangers of islam are all to be found in the koran as I have conclusively proved. Thankfully I see a great awakening going on.

Oh Beeno, here is what CC said... "Selecting the best cricketer as captain is not necessarily the way to go. Clearly Amla is wrong for the job. Time to find someone competent." There is no better choice than Amla at the moment. It would be nice to hear some ideas as to who we think might be better. Yes his form has dipped...but so did everyone else's in India. Let's have a look at the home series and see how he does. I mentioned his muslimity because according to Beans every Muslim will decapitate you if you slur against him. The way he handled the terrorist comment when he was still a youngster showed maturity beyond his years. Which is relevant to his captaincy. I'm willing to bet that he will a average over 40 in 2016.

You mentioned the muslim factor becsause you are a muslim apologist if not a muslim yourself. If you knew anything about cricket you would know the captaincy may not suit a player and can cause form to drop off. CC and Mike are absolutely right Amla is very good but has been struggling since becoming captain. He didnt want the job so it is a realistic consideration that he may not be the man from the job. You however couldnt resist giving vent to your hatred of Christians. You hate whites, you hate Europe and the USA and want a muslim take over, you take every opportunity to support islam and play down the threat they represent. You are disgusting to say the least.

As for every muslim needing to cut off an infidels head. The Christians and Jews are exempted from this as they are the "People of the Book" if they submit to their muslims lords and pay the tax. Other infidels are to be killed per the instructions of the koran. Full sharia law is not implemented until they sieze power in a country. There is no denying the clear and oft stated jihad versus. You try and maintain this is not so because you are a hopeless liar.
Face facts the more folk are finding out about islam the less they like it. In fact it is safe to say a deep loathing is building up as understanding of the koranic teachings grow.Your support for them is a total disgrace as is your support for the corrupt, inefficient, self serving anc.plumpie you are a very dumb, mixe d up person calling evil good and good evil. You need help desparately.

For my money Amla is not ideal. But i cant see anyone else at the moment who is able to do the job. One other thing we seem to have done is to not give him much of a grace period. Probably because he's been playing for a long time and has had the vice captaincy. It takes a while before a captain shows if he's good enough or not. Let's see how this home series against a decent English team goes. Morkel's doing well...taking wickets as I'm typing this.

Hey Mr Plum how was yer holiday mate ? Did that fat barstard Santa gyp you outta some nice wee prezzies ? Already got mine when the ABS put our Old Bill back next to the big Bledisloe fella .Many Aussies were saying the Bledisloe should have been on the line in the final which was fine with all Kiwis but it seems the Aussies have chickened out and once again the only trophy they have was got on the cheap again ! The once mighty West Indies just makes me sad these days ,I remember Viv Richards the Mighty Clive Lloyd and his boys making wee Kim Hughes cry ! Used to love going to the Adelaide oval back then ,girl I worked with was Desmond Haynes squeeze whenever the Windies were in town ,his girl in that port as it were ! So got to meet guys like Joel Garner who was playing for Glenelg and Sth Oz for a season ,dude could reach halfway down the pitch !

Alright Wardad? Yeah, Xmas has been good mate. Yours too I presume? Got p1ssed on Xmas as a good friend's b-day is on the same day. Yeah the Windie team of the 70s/80s was pretty epic. Too many lads in that part of the world are seduced by the big money Yank games these days. I've also thought it's a bit of cultural surrenderof sorts. Cricket doesn't quite fit rap and R&B the way American football or basketball does. Sucks really. I can't see them ever being a force again. Soon Afghanistan will be more deserving of the top tier spot. Actually Ireland probably deserve a knod before the current Windies get one.

The WI had a couple of good decades and that was that. They like their dope etc too much, lack discipline and are now cricketing minnows.
I dint think minnows like the WI should be wasting the publics time playing OZ. The OZ crowd however always turns up to support their fine side but are deserving of real opposition.
What the WI needs is a tough coach with the full support of the board to whip these cretins into shape. A Mitchell type of guy.

Oh well, there goes that prediction. Can i just say...terrible opening spells from both Morkel And Steyn. I know Steyn seems to have a shoulder problem but still...specifically kak fist over. First ball is well wide and easily left at the pace he is currently bowling. Second ball he over compensates and Cook flicks it off the hip for 4. The one ball he got right to Cook troubled him right away. Morkel only hit the right line and length in his third over. Terrible from both of them. I stopped watching after the seventh over. These guys are supposed to be our best but need twelve balls each to get their eyes in, and still don't seem to get it right. Unforgivable. It's very simple...upright seam and top of off to new batters. Make them play at 5 out of six balls and offer one wider one per over. It's kind of sad actually, that they know exactly what to do and just can't seem to get it right. Steyn gives me the impression that his ranking has finally gone to his head and I fear Morkel will always be wayward. At decent club levels bowlers are able to hit a dinner plater sized spot on the pitch regularly and yet our best can't do that...even on a track where they know that only line, length and a fresh seam early on are all they have to work with. What could be early pressure amounts to nothing more than the English players leaving the ball on line. Yes the batting line up failed again, but fek me I am as unimpressed by Steyn and Morkel as I could ever be. Also, we seem to be giving Mr Amla a ton of stick and yet we say nothing about the coach. Been very interesting listening to Smith commentate. It's easy to understand why he was as a good a captain as he was. He calls it almost every time. I don't think Amla is a bad captain, i just think Smith is probably the best SA have ever had. Why has Smith not taken a coaching/mentoring role in the team? His knowledge is obviously very sorely missed.

So the coach is to blame for Amla's poor form huh ?? ... interesting!!!

Strange how the brilliant Smith never took us to a world cup title ... not even to a world cup final ... especially being the best captain we've apparently ever had ... one would have thought he'd at least lead us to victory once during his spell at the helm.

Sadly not ... probably the coaches fault as well.

CC did I say Amla's form is the coaches fault? If so, please direct me to where I said that. I said that maybe the poor string of results could partially be blamed.on the coach. How have we done since the new coach came in? Wanna check on that for us? Doing the same old CC thing again huh...twisting words and making straw man arguments. Amla's poor form is down to his massive lack of foot movement. I said this right at the start of this thread. He doesn't get back and accross enough against pace bowling and be never gets decent strides forward against spinners. Hence he always edges balls against pace lately and gets LBW against spin. He relies on his trigger movement too heavily and this worked for him in the past but once you get older your movement needs to improve to compensate for your "eye" getting worse. Happens to almost everyone who generally plays far away from their body. Oh, and CC nice disappearing act you did bud. Never responded to that post I made...Remember the one that showed you accusing me of a bunch of stuff falsely, including calling me a liar. Would you like me to re-post it for you? Nah, probably not right. You'll just stick to making up things that I've supposedly said.

If there is one thing which is clear as daylight it is that AB should not be used as wicket keeper and fill a key batsman role as well.   It really is utter madness to expect that from your best player.
The other problem is that people carry on about my comments on Amla - He has been below par for month now.  He should be given a sabbatical and allowed to play himself back into form on provincial level.   He has redeveloped his technical deficiencies of early in his career and must be given an opportunity to get rid of those.  If he carries on like he did thus far the past few series on provincial level - he should not be brought back into the national team.
The third problem in the team is Faf - another player who should be send back to the provincial level and only re-selected if he passes the grade on that level.

I would say stick to rugby plump pie but you dont understand rugby either! HahahahahhahahahahahaPlump pie best you dont crit CC re cred giving your zero cred rating.Give the gloves to Quinton. Give the captaincy to AB. All the commentators broughrt up the captaincy issue. And Kepler sugetsed AB has proved his form is not effected by the captaincy. More EGG fro Plump  pie.

I do not agree that AB should be skipper. He is the best player and needs to have freedom. Sure his form wasn't affected when he was skipper but he is not a very good skipper either. Amla hasn't made any glaring errors as captain. His form is bad though. But so is that of Faf, Duminy, Elgar(ASIDE FROM ONE GOOD SCORE), Bavuma. Even the lower order are scoring less runs that usual. Hence my question...why is nobody looking at the coach? The batting and bowling issues far outweigh the captaincy issue. Do we intend to sort everything out at once? Probably not the best idea. I say stick with Amla as skipper, but make sure to sort out the more pressing issues. Once that is looking better then re-visit the captaincy issue.

But no wait. The better option is to do this...sack the captain, completely re-arrange the batting line-up, drop some of the best players and replace them with untested batsman and start from zero while the team is ranked 1st in tests. Guy it does happen that a bunch of batters in a team lose form at the same time. Aside from Duminy and maybe Faf, i dont think major changes are called for just yet.

Yes, and I agreed that the captaincy pressure does not affect AB. BUT he is not a good captain. Amla is still the best suited to the job. Loss of form is loss of form and it happens to EVERYONE. What are Faf, Duminy, Elgar and others excuses for their poor form? They are all pros and just because one guys has a poor spell as captain doesn't mean he is not fit to captain. Anyway, none of you are talking about technical issues. It's more a political and pressure discussion. Amla's problem is technical. Look at his dismissals. To get Amla out as a seam bowler, all you do is bowl wider. He has zero foot movement and will eventually edge it. As a spinner you bowl slightly fuller and trap him LB or get squirter to the slips since he doesn't come forward enough to meet the ball. Maybe the pressure is affecting him but his technique is the real problem.
