The tallest left wing in the world and probably the most popular player in the country is heading for the swamp. How do we interpret this move by Erasmus Head? Could it be the rugby genius Erasmus is not that impressed with Stephanie in the tough stuff and discounts the surges and inevitable handling errors down the left wing? Could it be he came up with B team captaincy as a clever way of appeasing the Stephonistas and the more placid Stephosi? As it stands this looks like a poisoned chalice, captaining the worst team to ever pull on the green and gold in 100 degree heat and humidity in front of a non existent audience. I'm not a Stephanie believer, but this strikes me as a rotten deal.

It is a bit of a dick move of they lose (likely) in a nothing game with no interest.

Lets see if he can rally a poor side to do one over the Welsh. The Boks are gonna need more leaders going forward.

Normal Mozart BS.   Du Toit was not discarded by Erasmus at all and he will not be.   A rotten deal it is - but this one is totally misrepresented by our resident BSter.

@ Mozart.

I think he will barring any injuries. Who else is there?

Orie and Jenkins are so/so and while I definately think RG is one for the future, hes a bit raw to start a test.

I just hope Du Toit is playing 2nd row and not flank.

Orie should not be there.

Guy still has a long way to go.

Makes silly mistakes and gasses too early because he can't read the game well enough yet.

Doubt he'll see much/any game time though.

I'm going with Faf as MOTS.

After the Poms visit we'll be wondering how we ever doubted him.

6. Kolisi, 7 Du Toit, 8 Du Preez.

I would go with that ... no choice at 6 ... but Vermeulen is done and shouldn't be in the mix at all.

The team I'd go for with the picks Rassie's made is

Kitshoff,

Akker,

Louw,

Snyman,

Mostert,

Kwagga,

Pieter Steff Du Toit,

Jean-Luc Du Ptreez,

Faf,

Pollard,

Nkosi,

Esterhuizen,

Am,

Dyantyi,

Willie

Subs - Bismarck, Thomas Du Toit, Nyakane, Dan Du Preez, Papier, Robert Du Preez, Fat Fransie, Gelant.

So you prefer a player Plumtree  said is no center at all to De Allende - despite the latter trashing him every time the played against each other.   De Allende in 2014 made 27limne breaks and beat 72 defenders.   In the same year Fat Fransie make 2 line breaks beating 8 defenders.

Then there is the issue of defense.   Steyn in the years since 2012 always was the worst defending inside center in SA in Super rugby and has the worst ever record in ball possession losses of any inside enter in Super Rugby.   A weird choice - if ever there was one.   Frankly I would rather trust Plumtree in his evaluation than yours and Mozart's.
I do not believe neither of Vermeulen, Bismarck or Fat Fransie Steyn should be in the squad at all - they have been too poor to be considered as players in the squad based on their club records in th e years since 2015.   Fat Fransie always was below par since 2012 and as a matter of fact so was all the club players used by Meyer and Coetzee since 2014.   Fat and unfit - all of those..

Mike ... the stats you so love to use is 4 years old. That's a life time ago. Half of most rugby players careers in fact.

Why can't you apply the same stats of yesterday to other players ... like Matfield and Alberts? You chose not to ... that's why.

I guess you can see what I think of De Allende. He is selfish, a glory seeker, doesn't distribute, has no kicking game, cannot run a backline's defense, doesn't have a clue how to tackle and plays every match as an individual and not as part of a team. He has contributed greatly to the Stormers season this year.

The only thing he has to offer is crashballing.

My choice would be to get rid of both. I don't like Fat Fransie either ... but I prefer him to the one dimensional De Allende and besides ... he has a thumping boot and can play at 10, 12 and at 15.

They are both useless ... but Fats is the lesser of two evils.

I have posted the stats of Alberts oodles of times in the past.    He was useless as a loosie and that remains a fact.   As to Matfield his stats since his return  were vastly overshadowed by his long list of foul-ups he made in the games he played in.   I listed some previously.

AS to Alberts made a minor contribution more or less in the case of 10% of such.   Then he would stand around behind the mauls and as I said a very limited times joined the mauls - that is if due to pace deficiency he got to breakdown  points.   He would stand around behind the mauls together with Matfield in the hope that they would make an attention-seeking  spectacular ball carry - which never happened.

Hmmm.....Alberts.....43 tests, 30 wins, 12 losses, 1 draw......win ratio 71%. Boy he must have had 14 good chaps playing with him. Tokkie's newbies are now at 11 wins, 12 losses and 2 draws for a win ratio of 47%. Alberts and his colleagues were winners, Tokkie's newbies aren't worthy of the jersey......spot the difference.

Alberts was no loosie at all - he was a passenger in games and contributed negatively to losses by the Springboks.   In any event the dunce believe that individual players win matches - not the team.

There is one point of view I share with him about individual players - they do not win matches the team does , but they sure as hell lose matches through poor play.   Alberts like Morne contributed more to losses by the Springboks than any other two players under Meyer.

Oh so individual players can't win games, but they can lose them....funny stuff. Alberts' stellar winning record is no accident.....it indicates a commitment by the coach to a power pack.....which is the number one factor in the Bok's test success. And Alberts for a number of years was a key element in that power pack. Your confused, boring rambling diatribes about Alberts only demonstrates one thing.....you never understood a thing about Springbok rugby.

So the Tight 5 needed assistance because of Matfield's presence - a massive admission by you.  Could not be any of the other four players - since you always supported the selection of Jannie, Bismarck, Beast and Etzebeth.

So because Matfield was poor as a lock other iro line-outs you ended up with a  loosie who is not a loosie - but a spare Tight 5 player and a lock who could not contribute in general to Tight 5 play.  What a collection of non-contributors to games we  have here.   A team consisting of 14 players - because two of those contribute to filling one of two jobs.

Funny reasoning this one from our local dunce. .  I do not think Meyer would be stupid enough to admit basing his selections  on that in public - he would be laughed off the stage if he did.  .   We all should know by now that team selections are based on combinations,   For instance you get -

*  the outside backs - wings and fullback;

*  centers;

*  half-backs;

*  loosies

*   tight 5

The players in each of those combinations must augment each other to make the combinations work to best advantage, while as a whole the various combinations must augment each other..   However, to select a defective lock and then select a defective loosie to make up for the shortcomings of the lock is sheer and utter stupidity since it disrupts the functioning of both the loosie combination and the tight. 5

This is not the first time Mozart came up with that idiocy - so it is better to ignore it.       ,

Willem Alberts was the most dominant force in world rugby at that time. His work rate was top draw ... a colossus.

What I'd give for a Willem Alberts today. Instead we have to contend with the likes of Jean-Luc Du Preez ... and then we don't even know whether he'll be able to out sprint Oupa Mohoje for the 7 jersey.

How things have changed.

Cleancut

Problem was he flopped as a loosie and flopped badly since he was too slow to get to breakdowns timeously and he never once made a turnover at breakdowns - fact is he could not do so.    He was never capable of ball protection at breakdowns.

He was not an effective ball carrier as well - in all his tests he averaged 2,2 meters per carry and his defense was problematic as well - in most matched he missed up to 50% of attempted tackles even though he was a low work rate loosie with a low number of tackles confined to tackles around the edges.

The main emphasis that in the games he did played in he could be equaled with performance normally associated with props - not loosies.  He had the pace of props and did not really have ball sense - so he was not usable in any attacking moves.

Some people admired him as a player - but I think he was not a good enough loosie to be effective in that position.   Something like Louw - but much slower,   In the Meyer era - as coach he viewed loosies as an extension  of the Tight 5 and three slow loosies were selected, making them totally ineffective as loosies.  Too many matches were jeopardized by that deficiency.

I followed Alberts performance carefully for years and what I wrote above about mauls is in fact correct - in cases where he did gt to breakdown points - he rarely entered mauls and stood around behind it.

Personally I do not think he would have been selected for any top 6 international teams as a loosie - had too many deficiencies to be selected.   He was instrumental in losing at least two tests against the AB's, after which I lost faith in him a a loosie.               .

By that standard he won tests....against England at Twickenham for example. But here's the thing Matfield and Alberts are gone, they no longer provide cover for your theories. It's now the third year for your seuntjies and they have a coach everybody wanted. Let's see the results.

Mozart

The lunatic at it again - there is no way he can dispute the facts as stated above and that remains  - so the inevitable personal attack follows.

The man is totally besotted with the aged players who in the Japan  test showed that they are failures and way past their sell-by dates.   Matfield was pathetic after his return from retirement and Alberts would not have been in any international match for any other country - because he was not a loosie at all - too clumsy and slow and  useless at best.

The famous Twickenham try was a farce.   The ball went back to the backline and Alberts did nothing to get back and be on side.  A kick by a backline player happened to touch an English player and put everyone on side.  The ball went over the tryline and all Alberts did was to fall on it and scored the try.    He was indeed lucky that the ball touched an English player as he was totally off-side in that case.   No effort on his side was required to score the try, but Mozart made it sound that the try resulted from a mighty ball carry by Alberts.

Be it as it may - the players get blamed for the poor coach who succeeded Meyer (also not a good coach at all), and the floundering selections made by Coetzee.   He obviously blame certain players only - but the real culprits selected by two foolish coaches without any game plans are never mentioned.

After one test Mozart started a thread on missed tackles - but he left De Jongh out from the list and kept quiet about Morne Steyn as well.  They happened to be the two worst defenders on the day in question.   That is a further reason never to trust Mozart when dealing with performance evaluation of players.

One of the most serious problems the Springboks had for years was the minority ball possession the Springboks had in most tests.   The reason can be attributed to two factors, namely -

*   posse ssion handover kicks - especially by his dear Morne;  and

*   deficient ball protection and recovery   by incompetent loosies

LOL..The differences between Mozart and Mike's players...this has been going on for as long as I can remember...it can be hilarious at times but some find it tedious and must have heard it more times than their are fleas on a dogs back:

Mozarts pet dislikes : PSDT, CJ Stander, Pat Lambie, and Damian De Allende,Johan Goosen,Jesse Kriel, Marnitz Boshoff, Cobus Reinach, and Marcel Coetzee.

Mozarts likes : Victor Matfield, Morne Steyn, Frans Steyn, Willem Alberts, Juan De Jong, Adi Jacobs and all old players with experience.

Mikes pet dislikes : Willem Alberts, Victor Matfield, Morne Steyn, Juan De Jong, Frans Steyn and Adi Jacobs.

Mikes heros : Not really sure here but it appears that he likes those who are performing up to date.

I went to the game at RFK stadium and right from the warm up Wales looked more engaged and intense. Plus the warm up was organized for Wales. The Boks warm up was lethargic.

The actual game was mostly boring so we agree on that. There were flashes of good play from both teams but the Welsh had more of them. The yellow card got the Boks some momentum and some points. If not for the yellow who knows what the score would have been.

Wales deserved the win but they weren't too flash either.

Glad I finally got to see the Boks play live but as many of you have said was this the best team they could have fielded?  They didn't play like it.

Congrats to Wales!

PS now that I have seen PSDT in person I can confirm Mozart's observation that he has a long neck. However, I content that this gives him "the Meerkat advantage".

No you wont describe the incident shitbnrain because you preferred to lie as per normal.  There was no way that Du Toit could prevent that try as he  was the only defender and he faced two backline players - the best way was to go for the outside player whom he would have pushed over the sideline - the ball was however, kept by the carrier and he scored.

Another incident that made shitbrain look even worse than his normal comments are.  Only you never describe any incident correctly because you prefer to be rotten to the core in player assessments and lie endlessly about your pet hate players. .

Wrong....given the inside player made the dummy, if Stephanie had made a strong tackle on him there was no try.....he wasn't preparing to pass. And even if he was preparing to pass, a ball and all tackle was a much better bet than trying to shift onto the open player. Stephani was a step inside the 5 metre line when the dummy was made...he never had a chance of getting across to tackle the next man.

This is the type of comments on what happens  n games that made Shitbrain the bi ggest liar on site.

Mike. Du Toit was fuct as soon as it became a 2 on 1.

Still one of the first things we coach kids is to never buy the dummy. It will just make you look stupid. Always tackle the ball carrier as it takes him out of the play as a support runner and trust in your cover defence.

In this case He had no chance of stopping the try but He does look a bit silly especially since Ben Youngs played the fool with him the last time they met.

Bottom line is that players who defend that poorly should not be in the Bok mix.

It doesn't matter whether they have talents elsewhere ... consistently letting in tries is an absolute no go zone. We cannot keep playing catch-up because of them . Unacceptable.

Either he sorts his defense issues out or he leaves the party.
