i find there to be too much unwarranted hate directed towrds the kings on this site and IMO the main source of all that disdain is the involvment of the watsons with the kings.

fair enough that many to great offence with lukes vomit comments, i would have been equally filthy if any All Black had said that about the All Blacks jersey, but im sure that some if not all can agree that for some saffas the Bok jersey represents a bygone era where memories are not quite as sweet.

be that as it may, the kings shouldnt be subjected to all the neagtive rubbish they have been. so what if the replaced the lions, lions havent done anything worth mentioning at spXV level, they have taken the wooden spoon 5 times in the last 10 years, have won 24 matches in that period, crusaders have won 25 matches in the last 2 years.

my favourite saffa team has always been the cheetahs, was a huge ous du rant fan who makes my all time world XV and why i always supported the cheetahs when they werent facing NZ teams, but im having a lot of empathy for the kings at the moment and im really hoping they have a fantastic debut if for nothing more then to rub it into peoples faces.

Sasu

I do not hate anybody - not the Watsons either.    However, as far as I am concerned I believe that rugby performance should be the norm for support of teams.   The poorest franchise in SA are without any shadow of a doubt the Cheetahs.   However, despite that they always try and play good rugby.

The team that fouled up badly for the past ren years have been the Lions.    Mismanagement has largely bankrupted the team - and their performances have been a disgrace.   However, despite their poor performances in the Syper serties - the better option would have been tos strengthen them as a team.

We now find that the decision taken is to take a team - that cannot even manage to play in the top CC competition is syddenly elevated to the Super 15 series.   Thet are going to have a plau-gg fame against the Cheetahs and I would lay my money on it that the Cheetahs in that game.

I can't really care a hell whether the Watsons are involved or not - it is the rugby performance issue that is really bothering me.   The other issue is the political cards played to get to that decision for the elevatopn to Super 15,    They really fo not have the financial resources required and the upshot would be Government Funfing ,  I really have a problem if and when tax-payers money is to be wasted to support the team.

the main reason I do not suppor the Kings is because of the Watsons. I am sick of them meddling behind the scenes. Although I am happy to see the back of the Lions. The Lions were a good union in the Amateur era when they had professional management, but in the professional era they have amateur management as a company and need to be desposed off.

Luke Watson claims he has been fighting apartheid since 1994.

If they could rid of the Watsons, many people would increase their support. Although if the Kings are playing any foreign team I will support them, just not against other South African sides at this very moment.

Maybe having another coastal team will be good for South Africa. Only the Bulls have done well. The Cheetas have only recently got their act together and actually play a better running game than most of the South Africa teams. It is a surprise in some ways they finished 10th. They now win away games in New Zealand and Australia, many year ago they were just cannon fodder overseas and only picked them selfs up for home games or against SA opposition

  • The former Bok has led the EP Kings in the Currie Cup's First Division this season. He missed the opening rounds due to a shoulder operation and a quad strain but has impressed since his return, scoring eight tries in four matches.

"Luke is a player that will score plenty of tries for your team," Solomons told keo.co.za.

"But it's his general play that has been very impressive. He's been in great form since coming back from injury."

Solomons believes that Watson could even add value to the Springboks.

"Luke has proven he is a quality player and he can make an impact at a higher level, but it's up to (Springbok coach) Heyneke Meyer to decide on who he wants to use in his team," he said.

Meanwhile, it's been confirmed that Western Province fly-half Demetri Catrakilis has signed a two-year deal with the Kings.

Catrakilis did not feature in any of the Stormers' matches during this year's tournament and his inability to break into their matchday squad is believed to be the reason for his move to the Kings.

"Demetri is the more experienced player among our fly-halves," said Solomons.

"He's shown great form during the Currie Cup Premier Division over the last two seasons for WP.

"His kicking at goal and out of hand has been excellent. I'm surprised he hasn't played Super Rugby for the Stormers."
