again as both Captain's agree it's best to bat first on what seems to be a pace friendly wicket. Is Faf yet to lose a toss on this tour?...don't think so.The Kiwis will have to dig deep when facing the onslaught of the mighty Protea attack....it's game on!

Well that's a bit better from Rabada. Philander though might be past his best, still economical but at 122/kms I'm afraid to say he's too slow.
Just when it seemed like a middle order Kiwi resistance...enter the dragon, Maharaj....how good is he!?
The morning session obviously belongs to the Proteas who've capitalized on a likeable strip.

We are short a bowler, as we discussed way back at the last WC Duminy is an occasional bowler, not your fifth regular bowler. I remember Sapp just couldn't be convinced of that. Disappointing economy from Morkel.

"We are short a bowler, as we discussed way back at the last WC Duminy is an occasional bowler, not your fifth regular bowler. I remember Sapp just couldn't be convinced of that."

LMAO!

Schplott! 4 wickets later and Moffie is looking for yet another towel to wipe all the egg off his fat face.

Meanwhile - with the Proteas 2 down already and the nightwatchman in - looks like we can chalk up yet another case of where the captain winning the toss should have batted.

Poor old Dense . . . game after game, week after week and month after month he sits there with his eyes out on stalks and his fingers hovering over the keyboard waiting for an example of where winning the toss and fielding first is justified. After literally months of being proved wrong he finally thinks he has an example and so fires off his gloating little post . . . but then bang! The wheels come off and the Quoteas are wishing they'd batted first again!

Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahahahahahahahahaha!

These two clowns are hilarious! This is what happens when you try to sound like an expert on a sport you've only been following for the last year or so.

The point is I could easily have edited it out, nobody was on the string, You would have.....I have enough integrity to let it stand ..... As for battting first you fool, generally in tests one does that.....why, because the pitch deteriorates. Rarely conditions make bowling on the first morning an advantage. But in one-day matches and T 20s there is no set rule....you simply got confused between formats. ...... Did you even play the game?

What happens if you go to the hospital and get a black doctor Carbuncle ....do you object? Who do you want to leave out.....Rabada it seems, probably the best young fast bowler in the world today. Or perhaps the whole non white contingent. Man living in South Africa must be an agony for you.

Morkel, Rabada, Morris, Parnell, Maharaj and Duminy.
That should be our lineup.
Plenty of variation and pace there.
Philander at his pace presently seems to let teams off the hook. He needs to operate at 135km to be effective but does that seem capable of that anymore.
A few small changes and this team could be a real force...until our entire top order retire.

So Moz, at 3/23 on D1 you wouldn't be a happy captain and vindicated in your decision to bowl? When Kane Williamson was asked what he would have done had he won the toss, his response was swift.......Bowl.
In Duminy's words....we missed a trick when we had them down at 3/23 but I add they missed a further trick getting smashed allover the park by the Kiwi tailenders adding another 43 runs to the 8th wicket partnership. Morne being the main culprit.

It's quite simple really.....if you don't like it....leave.

Clearly this was one of those cases where bowling first was the aggressive strategy. We made a great start but then conceded a record NZ 6th wicket partnership. Even then a 100 run lead was not implausible, but our top order failed....now it's a rescue mission for Bavuma and Quinty.

Cook has to go....and go soon....he's a liability exposing the middle order besides there are better batters around in his position. All is not lost when Amla, Philander, Duminy and Morkel depart. It was a poor effort from the seamers to let the Kiwis out of a stranglehold and back into the game when we had the chance to decide the outcome.

Once more the great Amla saves the side.
Must be an easy batting wicket seeing that Amla got 29 and Bavuma also got some runs.
Got to like de Kock's knock, though.
Perhaps the Quotas will pull this one off.....

I see the quota got 89.  Clearly doesn't deserve to be in the side.
Only rain will save NZ now that Proteas lead by 60 with three days left.
They should try letting Duminy open and bring in another batting all-rounder for the middle order. Just a thought.

I like the egg on Mozart face.  Remember his attack on De Kock in the previous test and now De Kock scored big and he tries to wipe the egg off his face.  Normal with I'm though - he is the chief egg collector ever.
This batting line-up is a nightmare and we are stuck with Cook and that is a mistake,   We need another opener and Amla in the ODI's and in the tests have been questionable.  I would say - get rid of Cook and bring in another batsman - he is already way past his sell-by  date, but Mozart will defend him at all costs - after all he is the right age group.
But who to open?   I would look outside the present squad thinking of players like Markham or De Villiers in that regard.

It is not looking all bad for the Proteas. 349/9 at the end of the days play. Philander on 36 and Morkel on 31. NZ must be wondering how on earth they are behind after they had us so badly on the ropes. Well done to the Proteas tail for wagging solidly!
Cook needs to go. Too old, too not good enough.

 Great comeback Moz.
Alan Border and a few other notable Ozzie cricketers had  nothing but high praise for Quinton and Bavuma.....they went as far as comparing Quinnie to Gilchrist.
I never believed Quinnie was Patel's bunny, today Quinnie had assistance from a quicker pitch whereas in previous games Patel had assistance from a slow, sticky wicket.

And then talk about a Niagara of egg......there is this from Tokkie: ......... December 30, 2015, 18:36:45. ........... 'SA Cricket has called up some extra players for the second test after the latest fiasco. The team suggested in the news report in News24 is the following:- . Stiaan van Zyl, Dean Elgar, Hashim Amla, AB de Villiers, Rilee Rossouw, JP Duminy/Temba Bavuma, Quinton de Kock, Kagiso Rabada, Kyle Abbott, Dane Piedt, Morne Morkel ........ I think they can do without Bavuma and Faf du Plessis and I think Amla and Duminy will have to pull up their socks drastically or they will have to go as well.' ... They can do without Faf and Bavuma. Bwaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahahaha, best just keep quiet Clever, I doubt you have ever played cricket.

Hilarious stuff denny. I think old Tok has shafted every Proreas player at some point. He simply has no grasp of form fluctuations in cricket. Philander was terrific with the bat as well....and how about Morkel, A clumsy batsman at best. It's all over to the bowlers now...can they do the business.

Yep, Plum u are correct.
89 this time and please check his previous score beside the ton he scored way back.
Not a consistent test batsman u can call on to provide depth in the batting line-up.

 Arthur what's Bavuma's average?
I honestly don't know, but I assume it's about par for a guy as fresh as he is to the test scene.
He does have a solid technique with a high backlift, quick hands and educated feet. He also uses his lack of height exactly the way Tendulkar did IE no length ball is safe. Where a tall guy can get a big stride in and drive the hell out of you, a very short guy can turn almost anything into a short ball and pull you away or run you to third man all day.
If anything I'd say Bavuma needs to work on his wrists since it's much easier to play short stuff behind square.
Just my opinion.
I dislike quotas as much as the next guy, really I do, but Bavuma and Rabada are NOT quotas.

And I said it last year when i noticed it for the first time. Amla's bat speed is gone. It was his major strength and now that it's all but disappeared he either needs to play much straighter and leave better or he won't be scoring many more hundreds.

Plum at test level cricket u have to deliver or be sidelined for awhile is all I am suggesting.
At this level, no team can afford two or so players not scoring consistently.
If the guys are class players and have a slump as Amla and Buvama have had recently then they must be dropped from the test side until they recapture the form required to play test cricket.
I do not care who they are we always have to field  THE BEST, not THE REST.
No point in selecting a player who has lost form when u have class players who are chomping at the bit and frustrated because of such policies.
Remember the old saying STAND and DELIVER.
Well if the selectors do not commit to selecting the best in form players I can foresee an exodus of top class players similar to what is happening in rugby.
Politice has no place in sport.

 Plum
mate, you're wasting your time with Farter....he's just a plain unadulterated racist who's been sprouting the same boring line in post after post. See the below Sections to see evidence of what I'm saying.
Notice how he always just mentions Amla and Bavuma but no mention of Cook?
But leaving race aside for the moment there is also such a thing of selectors backing their judgement and allowing for the highs and lows of a cricketers career.
As an example of this look to the start of Kallis's career......a disaster.....left to an ignorant Twat like Farter the world would never have known of the genius that was Kallis.
Yesterday in another post I mentioned listening to the thoughts of Alan Border and other Ozzie cricket notables who had high praise of Bavuma......the opinionated and ignorant Farter begs to differ. I know who I believe.
Look at how they stuck with AB and Quinnie, the latter a ton of frustration at the start of his career.
Truth be told Farter who lives in Canada doesn't watch any Cricket or Rugby and so with his finger on the keyboard he watches the scoreboard. It's a good thing he's left the country because in the process he took his ignorance with him.
His bitter pot shots from a distance only impresses his fellow racist, no-one else.
I wait with bated breath to read a single post of his that discusses the content of  a game of cricket or rugby.
Just one will do.

First I wish to congratulate the guys on their win. Always pleased to SEE Saffers on the winning side espically when they are written off by the so-called self-proclaimed cricket master.
Now please remind me who stated that the Kiwis would outplay the Proteas and win.
Correct folks.....none other than that great ex-SA cricketer old Egg Face Crissy Curly.
No need to point out Cook's dismal record to me Crissy Curly but u should get in touch with your family members on the selection committee and mention it to them.
While u are communicating with them perhaps u might wish to draw their attention to Amla as well.
Great bowling from Morkel to get the early breakthrough as well as some great accurate spin bowling from Maharaj.
Just a reminder that cricket is still about scoring runs and getting the other side out for less than u scored. It is not about race or politics but all about performance and winning.
Crissy Curly no need to order EGGS at breakfast just simply stick out your forked tongue and lick your chin.....that will fill your quota of protein for this series.
As always, looking out for u.
