Hell Dave I saw Moojati, your erstwhile best tighthead on the planet  in a match against Gloucester. The poor chap seems to be a bench player for Sale these days. And on he came on my recorder, while I was using my elliptical machine yesterday.....
Needless to say this lifted my flagging interest in this NH boreathon. Then there were three scrums....scrum 1 Sale was pinged for an early push, scrum 2 Moojati was penalized for illegal tactics, scrum 3 he was destroyed.
Which raises the question.....obviously he is not the best tighthead on the planet now, do you still think he was best a few years back

And secondly who do you think is better Moojati or Werner Kruger

Moz in his prime Moojati was the best 3 in the game....better than Jannie ever was for the Boks for a start.
Now if you were up with the present you would know that Mujati is now a serious body builder, lost loads of weight in the process and no longer takes rugby that seriously.
He is an old man in rugby terms I thought that alone would gain your support. Glad to be of assistance

Stupid bum, - he thrives on a typing error - when caught out about the actual spelling of a player's name.   He is as dumb as he normally is about all issues pertaining to rugby.

I have to side with Saff on this one. I would know about best in the world, but Mujati was surely right up there with the best when he was with Northampton.

Ah CC as rugby ignorant as ever

Thing with Mujati was that he represents just another missed opportunity......not only was he a class tighthead, he was black......but good old Meyer as he has done with so many players......missed out on a golden opportunity to invest in a quality black player, who at Saints as Vlag correctly points out, along with Tonga and Hartley proved to be the best frontrow in the game while playing together for Saints.

Useless Meyer missed out on so many......Combrink, Ulengo, Kolbe, Senatla, Vorster, Venter, Jantjies, Goosen, Faf, Kitshoff, Willemse, Jacques du Plessis, Jaco Kriel......the list is endless

Mujati played his last test for SA in 2008. That was four years before "good old HM" became  Bok  coach. He left Saints at the end of the 2013 season and since he left Northampton he has been nowhere near the form that he had at the Saints.

Apart from that, the other problem was that by that time the "quick thinkers" in govt, and Bhutana Khompela in particular, have decided that you cannot have a non-citizen playing for the Boks. Remember how Beast was suddenly banned from playing for  the Boks in 2010 and how they suddenly had to jump through hoops to get him an SA passport?

By the time that "good old HM" became Bok coach, Mujati has already been out of the country for four years and there was no way that he would have been able to even qualify for permanent residence again, let alone a passport. But hey, anything to to blame it on "good old HM".

So Vlag are you saying useless Meyer could not select Mujati because he was playing in England?

Yeah Moz that will be CJ the guy that was names Munster player of the year and Ireland player of the year in the same year.

Thanks for reminding me......CJ has to go to the top of the list in terms of useless Meyer's out of touch misses.

Quinn Roux, the guy that is in the Ireland training squad to tour SA?

Keep them coming

Let me guess Moz, you still don't rate CJ.....bwhaaahaaaaa

There has been egg in its time on this site but your call on CJ wins hands down

We would never know if he would have played him if he could, now would we. If you are saying that he would not have, then it would be nothing but speculation.

Having said that, he (HM) would have been an utter idiot of he even tried to play him, purely based on the facts. These are the facts:

  1. According to government policy he would not have been able to play. He was not a permanent resident of the country any more and he would therefore have had to meet with residency requirements to be considered for an SA passport. The difference between him  and Beast was that Beast never left the country. He moved to SA and was working there and remained there. He already had permanent residency in SA and  was still in  the country, making him illegible for citizenship. I am not sure  of the exact conditions  but I assume  that it is more or less the same everywhere. In the UK, as you probably know, you have to be in the country on a long term visa for  at least five years before becoming eligible for Indefinite Leave to Remain (ILR). Once you have ILR, you have to wait another 12 months before you can apply for citizenship. That is in a broad sense. There are ways that it can be shorter than 6 years in total  but those are the exception , rather than the rule. There is a catch, though. If you are out of the country for more than a certain amount of days during your stay on a visa, your five year countdown starts all over again. That means  that permanent residency status alone  does not qualify you for  citizenship. You actually have certain periods of physical presence in the country as well. That is where Mujati would have missed the boat.
  2. Nobody even know whether he would have wanted to play for SA, even if it was possible. Saying that he would have would, once again, have been pure speculation. Particularly in view of the animosity towards him due to his father's history in Zim.

What utter crap, he had already won a few caps for the Boks so why on earth would he not have been able to continue in that vain. Once you have played for a country the horse has bolted in that regard.

In an interview he said he would loved to have played for the Boks and would have jumped at the chance. He felt he was being used at the time he was selected as a Bok and wanted to prove his worth

Useless Meyer never had his finger on the pulse so would not have even considered Mujati as he was too stupid

It is not crap, mate. In a way you are correct that the horse is bolted. But only in a way, in that he can never represent another country again but those are only Wolrd Rugby rules. Each country can have further sanction for playing in the national side and that was exactly what SA has done. Please try to keep up with this, if you can.

Beast was still in SA, playing for SA when he was suddenly banned from representing SA until such time as he has obtained SA citizenship.

Read this:

Citizenship controversy an d resolution

Although Mtawarira was fully eligible to play for South Africa under IRB rules, his Zimbabwean nationality was a sticking point in 2009 and 2010. South Africa has a policy of only allowing its nationals to represent the country, although it has been somewhat flexible; the South African Rugby Union (SARU) officially cleared him to play with the Boks in the November 2009 Tests, after receiving clearance from the country's sports minister Makhenkesi Stofile.[4]

More recently, his citizenship was a minor political issue in the country. In January 2010, Buthana Komphela, an ANC member of the National Assembly and chair of its sports committee, publicly threatened to charge the SARU with "illegally" fielding Mtawarira and have him deported to Zimbabwe.[5] Shortly after the threat, Mtawarira told the Sunday Independent,

I am a South African at heart. I love this country. It has become my home. It is everything to me. Wearing the green and gold of the Springboks is a huge honour for me. That jersey is part of me. The green and gold flows in my blood. I feel just as much pride as any other guy in the team.[6]

Later in the year, the South African government reaffirmed its policy that only South African nationals would be allowed to represent the country in international competition, which made Mtawarira unavailable for selection to the Springboks in the June Tests; by that time, his application for South African citizenship had been tied up in red tape. On 25 June 2010, the SARU announced that Minister of Home Affairs Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma had granted Mtawarira's request for South African citizenship. The immediate effect was to make him eligible for selection in the 2010 Tri Nations.[2]

I know that you would dearly love to pin Mujati on "good old HM", it is not going to fly. He would not have been able to represent SA.

Ja Saf, Vlag is correct. It was the SA Government who closed the door on Moojaati. Beast was in the crossfire too for a while, but he managed to get his SA pasport in time. That rule left BM hanging high and dry. The only way to play test rugby again was to return to SA to qualify for a passport,  and by the time he did, he would have been too old anyway. Sad turn of events, as I'm also of the opinion that he could have added real value to the Boks.

My point was more that useless Meyer never even approached him to play.....much like he never did when it came to CJ Stander......the fool should have capped CJ years ago, thereby securing his services for the Boks.
What of Paul Willemse and Jacques du Plessis who are flourishing under Jake White right now.....how was Meyer so ignorant that he missed the boat with these guys....instead we saw investment in Matfield and Alberts......fuck me!!
The greatest travesty is the fact that Kitshoff has never won a test cap, closely followed by Jaco Kriel and Faf de Klerk......instead we had Louw and Pienaar
This is the story of Meyer.....will Coetzee be any better....I doubt it

Kitshoff has been kept out by the Beast and Nyakane, two very reliable props who also tick other boxes. Let's not blame HM for that.

Mujati was only ever brought into the fold because of skin colour.
Meyer made an awful amount of blunders whilst at the helm ... Coenie was probably one of the bigger ones.

Coenie went as a tighthead, but I have always said he can't scrum.  Still  the Coenie myth is scarcely  bigger than the Moojati myth. This guy was bog ordinary in RSA. Then shipped off to the UK and ended in a team that had a dominant scrum....hence the reputation. In the match I watched during his so called peak, he was dominated by a perfectly ordinary Irish prop and ran out of gas after 50 minutes.

Trevor is a better TH than Coenie and Kitsie is the best LH we had. Kitsie ahead of Coenie would have improved our chances dramatically. It was a no-brainer and Meyer got it wrong...pun intended.

Useless Meyer is to blame.....Kitshoff should have been capped years ago....long before the WC
Meyer was utterly useless at recognising talent for he was too hell bent on investing in a bunch of washed up 30 plus has beens.......no wonder the ignorant fool failed so as a test coach.
