And much as I have maligned this player in the past, he deserved the recognition. Apart from a few early performances by the Beast, this was a rare example of a SA loosehead actually applying pressure in the scrums. One or two more games like that and he will vault into contention. There is very little talent at LH, and the obvious guy, Kitshoff just had another poor game against the Blues. It's beginning to feel like we might have to call back Gurthro, if Greyling reverts to last year's form.
Dean Greyling makes the TOW
greyling made my team of the week too, something i never thought would happen.
but one good game dosent make up for a whole lot of shit games IMO and thats his real story up to 2013.
i do hope he gets selected for the Boks against the All Blacks, one less game for the All Blacks to worry about, :o)
regarding kitshoff, he hasnt reached the same heights he did last year, but the potential is still there, but gunthro??? o_O
geez, i hope the Boks pick both greyling and gunthro against the All Blacks, that would be even better, LMAO, -_o
Ja and you guys will probably pick Ben Franks....hahahaha.
And you say: "but one good game dosent make up for a whole lot of shit games IMO and thats his real story in 2013."
Oh really? That's amazing given the Canes was his first game....how did you figure that Einstein?
@mozter,
LMAO, :oD
obviously i meant up to 2013, -_o
thank u edit post function, :oP
as for those ben franks, he was in good form last year, unlike gunthro and greyling, but mroe improtantly, he wasnt in the top 5 best props by seasons end, evident by his nonselections towards the end of 2013.
and i would have noe problems what so ever of putting ben franks in the All blacks if it meant the Boks played greyling and steenkamp.
so let meyer know and i will let hansen know, hell, i will even let ben franks start if it means gunthro and greyling are both selected, LMAO, :oP
uh oh Moz - you said "Guthro" ....... thats going to flip some switches.
Hehe.....stand by for another book from Oom Maaik
Mozart
Really - I have to laugh about that Guthro remark - you really cannot be serious. A fat useless player his club plays in three games for half of the games mostly from the bench and then have to rest him for two games - is good enough to play for the Springboks. Mama mia - how silly can you get?
Moz, you have lost me here. The Stormers scrum dominated the Blues scrum in a big way. The only time they did not dominate, was when Cilliers replaced Malherbe at 3. Kitshoff has been good this year, as have Nkanyane and Coenie.
Beast is the incumbent and we have more than enough depth in Kitshoff, Coenie, Nkanyane and Greyling.
I have always rated Greyling as he is a tough bastard. Strong in the scrums and always looking for work with ball in hand. His stupidity last year did him no favours.
The day we select the likes of Guthro Steenkamp again, is the day I chuck in the towel
Good to see JJ, Jean, Chiliboy and Steph du Toit in the side as well
Team of the Week - Round 12:
15 - Israel Folau (Waratahs):
Last year we had the Sonny Bill off-load. This year we have the Israel step!
Bubbling under: Gareth Anscombe (Chiefs)
14 - Cam Crawford (Waratahs):
The opposition may have been sub-standard, but it takes some quality finishing to get a hat-trick.
Bubbling under: Henry Speight (Brumbies)
13 - JJ Engelbrecht (Bulls):
There are still some who feel he is a better wing, but he is fast developing into a quality outside centre.
Bubbling under: Tim Nanai-Williams (Chiefs)
12 - Jean de Villiers (Stormers):
He did everything in his power to get his team over the line, including a big one-finger salute to those who still feel his sell-by date is up!
Bubbling under: Kyle Godwin (Western Force)
11 - Digby Ioane (Reds):
He is going to be missed once he leaves Australian rugby.
Bubbling under: Lwazi Mvovo (Sharks)
10 - Dan Carter (Crusaders):
Masterclass!
Bubbling under: Morné Steyn (Bulls)
9 - Andy Ellis (Crusaders):
Without doubt his best game of the year.
Bubbling under: Will Genia (Reds)
8 - Scott Higginbotham (Rebels):
Some tough competition from TJ Ioane and Ben Mowen, but he put down a big marker for the Wallaby No.8 jersey.
Bubbling under: TJ Ioane (Highlanders)
7 - Chris Alcock (Western Force):
In a powerful defensive effort, Alcock was the biggest rock - edging teammate Matthew Hodgson by 22 tackles to 21. Add in a couple of turnovers and eight runs and you have our reasons.
Bubbling under: Michael Hooper (Waratahs)
6 - Steven Luatua (Blues):
He is so much more than just a ball-carrying monster! Apart from being his team's most productive forward with ball in hand, he also made 15 tackles.
Bubbling under: Matt Hodgson (Western Force)
5 - Brodie Retallick (Chiefs):
Powerful on defence, with 15 tackles, and a strong carrier of the ball - bot to mention his work at the rucks and mauls. He beats of the challenge of the world's tallest centre.
Bubbling under: Andries Bekker (Stormers)
4 - Pieter-Steph du Toit (Sharks):
The words 'high workrate' epitomises his performance - 14 tackles, 12 carries (for 60 metres gained), 14 rucks and mauls attended and three turnovers.
Bubbling under: Luke Romano (Crusaders)
3 - Ben Tameifuna (Chiefs):
He remains a popular figure, even though some other props have much higher workrates and dominated in the set pieces.
Bubbling under: Werner Kruger (Bulls)
2 - Chiliboy Ralepelle (Bulls):
Without doubt his best and most consistent season by some distance.
Bubbling under: Heath Tessman (Western Force)
1 - Dean Greyling (Bulls):
It must be a bitter pill to swallow for those who wrote him off as a weak scrummager and a penalty liability.
Bubbling under: Benn Robinson (Waratahs)
Last year the Stormers scrum struggled a bit whenever Tiaan didnt play. This year they have not and it is clear that these two young props are coming of age and will be really going great guns by WC time.
Dont forget Marcell Van der Merwe the ex Cheetahs prop who should be turning out for the bulle in the near future.
Chilli Boy has stepped up a gear but lets see it against better sides than the Kings and a Canes side who never really pitched. I am hearing that the canes tighthead is not much to shout about so Greyling, who has always been a good prop, needs to show this form again against a tough pack.
In Etzebeth, Du Toit, Bekker (man he should not be going), De Jager and Flip we have a some superb locks. The props and hookers are there as are the loosies.
Backline resources are also pretty good with young talent being online by World Cup
Can't argue with the backline
Hugh Pyle scores two tries and was all over the park - should have been in the team over Retallick
Deon Fourie had a better game than Ralapelle
PSD looked great - much more polished performance than the last couple of weeks. He is developing quickly and surpassing my expectations - kudo's again to those here who saw it coming.
