The following from News24:-

“ Pieter-Steph du Toit has been withdrawn from the Springbok squad after a scan revealed on Monday that he has suffered a grade two hamstring tear over the weekend, with Franco Mostert being called up as replacement.

Du Toit was sent for a scan on Monday, which confirmed the extent of the injury. He has been ruled out of action for between two and six weeks.

Mostert, of the Lions, is set to join the squad on Tuesday in Stellenbosch. He was initially was named in the SA ‘A’ squad for the two-match series against the England Saxons.

Sharks lock Stephan Lewies, who has one Test cap to his name, will replace Mostert in the SA ‘A’ squad.

Other players who did not participate in Monday afternoon’s first field session in Stellenbosch were centre Jesse Kriel and prop Trevor Nyakane. Kriel has a bruised sternum and will be managed accordingly during the week, while Nyakane will undergo a scan to his shoulder.

The Springboks have a full training programme on Tuesday, which includes a gym session in the morning as well as two field sessions”

This is bad news for the Springbok squad – but not  a long term injury – which would have been a worrying factor.  The situation is that De Jager will be the starting lock and Mostert on the bench.

Sad for PSDT but at least it's only a minor injury and on the positive side Mostert will get a deserved test cap which will forever tie him to the Boks as he is off overseas next season.
Good to see Lewies brought into the A side to replace Mostert

Unfortunate but not unexpected. This was probably the longest spell that Stephanie has remained injury free. It seems he just lurches from injury to injury....it must be discouraging.
Part of this is genetics. But playing style plays a part. Steph is the picture postcard of a player who is flat out all the time. Lomp a guy who cruises. Being that close to the edge every week in a 15 match plus Super season is a recipe for disaster.

All the experienced test players pace themselves and are sometimes misread because of it....as Steph gets into his mid twenties he will learn this. And we will learn how much of his performance is down to him just trying harder.

Latest report is that he might be ready for the first test if not he will be for the second.

Good news, the Stormers need him.....the Boks would probably have started Lomp anyway.

As per normal part of Mozart misleading stories.   A player with a high work rate like Du Toit does get injured more often - than a player who vanishes from Tight 5 play like Matfield ad Alberts did.   However, Kiewiet"s skinny legs and Albert"s legs ( which collapsed under his fat) constantly had leg injuries in 2014 and 2015.

Clearly PSDT needs to emulate Master Matfield & hang out in the back-line more

PSDT has so much potential, his greatest hinderance might be his own body, let's hope that he starts having better luck

Pla yers that is standing around doing zip in the Tight 5 and sabotaging the backline as stand-in center do not get injured easily.

So accepting your first assertion just for argument's sake, your next assertion is implicitly that centres don't get injured. Do you want to stick with that view?

Backline players do get injured - depending on their activity in contact.   If they do not attack the gain line and stay out of contact, while missing tackles by being poor in execution (like Morne Steyn for instance) chances of injury is remote.   Real backline players like centers have a much bigger chance of injury depending on the contact issue - pseudo backline players like Matfield much less so since the avoid contact as far as possible.   In the last two years in international rugby Matfield rarely carried balls and when he did the carries were in the main ineffective - he tackled lighter-weight backline players - but virtually never the bigger players - yet he was regularly off with leg muscle injuries.   That got progressively worse in 2015.

Got it....he lined up specifically against light weighted backs when he turned in the best tackle stats in many games, including our win over NZ in 2014. No doubt he also only took high balls on kickoffs when there was no chase. And he did this for 13 years as a Bok.

What are you talking about?  Matfield fouled up a line-out in the Springboks 22 which led to a AB try - his stats for defense in most games was in the low range of tackles as was his line out takes.   The only really poor contribution in that test came from Matfield and the fact that the test was won came from a long range penalty conversion by Lambie.
Here is Matfield stats for that match :-

If you call that an even half-decent performa nce by a lock - you must be kidding.

Second best tackling stats...co equal best lineout stats. But the point is he made 10 tackles. I assume those were all against small NZ backs? A simple yes or no will do.

Mike I have to agree - wee matfiled shunned the physical stuff a tight forard has to do like the plague. Dr Moz's grandmother wouldnt be injured playing like wee matfiled, 105 kg, didI have to say the retirement of wee matfield is a huge boon to the Boks.
Wee cc nobody forces you to read any particu lar posts here. Be free to pick and choose! Allow ou maaaaike and the god Dr Moz to get on with it! You are sounding like a nagging reforming type of wife!

". . . the god Dr Moz . . ."

Pfffffffffhahahahahahaha!

I suspect that's more of a Freudian slip than a keyboard slip!

Say . . . what are those things sticking out of Moffie's pale and wrinkled arse? Oh . . . not to worry, they're just Baboon-ou's shoelaces!

LMAO!
