Kindly refer to the following extract from a statement made by Drotske.
Cheetahs coach Naka Drotske has revealed that centre Robert Ebersohn has turned down a lucrative offer from Top 14 club Montpellier.
Recent reports in the French press claimed that Ebersohn had signed a pre-contract for a two-year deal with an option for a third year with the 2011 Top 14 finalists.
Drotske says he persuaded the 24-year-old Sevens international to rethink his future and stay in Bloemfontein and insists he won't allow any players to leave before the end of their contracts.
"Robert said no to Montpellier," Drotske told supersport.com.
"I think it is a good decision, not only for us, but for him as well. Personally I believe he is young enough and has a lot of time ahead of him in his career, and his best rugby is still to come.
"So I think it is a good decision to stay where he is.
"The overseas clubs want the players after Super Rugby and if I say yes to one player how do I say no to the next player. The Absa Currie Cup is a very important competition to us and we need all our contracted players to be available for it."
This was only part of the statement made by Drotske. He went on and said that Le Roux and Labuschagne is good enough to play international rugby and he impled that he does not understand Meyer's deision to exclude those two players from the training group. He added that it may have to do with Meyer's game plan and actually said that each coach has a game plan and select players accordingly.
There is apparently strong feelings on the latter issue in evidence as well - and that is the more reason to get tpo the center of the problem in this case. It apparently centers around some kind of game plan of Meyer - but the question is - What game plan?
Is there in fact a plan and what is this plan about. What I have seen last year under the coaching of Meyer and his remarks of the fact that SA does not have the gifted backline players to play attacking rugby - one has to assume that the plab ebds at no 12 in the team. That means that the 10 woud kick and the 12 would crashball. Outside of that there does not seem to be any plan available. That plan - or lack of it - does not cater for players like Le Roux - that is the apparent reason for his exclusion from the training camp.
The issue of Labuschagne is interseting and one wonders why Meyer takes certain decisions. I am going to make an extract from the performances of nboth SA loosies and those in other franchises to see whehter in fact there is some logic in the decision of Meyer - not that I expect much logic and will post the findings as an addition to this item.
