Elton Jantjies Rubicon moment this weekend

 Yep, as the title states. This is Jantjies chance to prove that he has the mettle. It is on home patch. Nice dry track with now wind or wet to contend with. 
Then again, if you look at the Hurricanes, I almost wonder whether they will win. The can afford to put bloke like Julian Savea on the bench. 
Should be a great spectacle. Jantjies is the only guy that can assure his team wins.

Old Tokkie had the temerity to attack his first half on another string. The fact is Jantjies was the target.....got smashed...but persisted. .. He was perfectly balanced....kick/pass/run. Made 14 runs into the trenches....made 49 metres, a clean break, an offload....and beat 3 tackles. And he scored a try. His willingness to take the hits was crucial in releasing the Lions backs in the second half, ... Only a true prick would quibble.

Well done Elton and the lions for completely destroying the Canes. Great fight back. Elton out played the best 10 in the world. Well done once more

 Nah, we have to wait for next weekend, then the RC, then the end of year tour , then next year's SR etc etc until Jantjies does fail and then Mike will tell us all that he told us so.

 Jantjies was a bit better than last week for sure.

Jantjies biggest failure is his haircut. Looks like he's a burn victim most of the time :)

 
A match of 2 halves.

Jantjies was awful at first. His Carlos Spencer pass cost us a quick 5 pointer and one could see he was struggling to hold onto his composure. Some very poor kicksand passes followed and I thought we were done for.

You could see him fighting hard though. He hadn't given up as we've seen him do in previous matches. That took balls and I'm so proud of the determination he showed yesterday. He just needed to cross over the threshold to finally calm down and settle himself.

Our 1st try and his subsequent conversion helped him believe.

Is this the turning point for Elton Jantjies? Has this experience under severe pressure matured him him?

I hope so.

We needed him yesterday ... and he delivered.

Damn .... I think I punched a hole in my ceiling.

Oh balls....he was hit as he offloaded to Cronje into what would have been a clean gap. He kicked solidly right from the start. And his late penalty to the corner in the first half to set up the late try was huge. The canes were on top of him the whole half but he persisted Eat your crow.

I didn't get to see the first half, but from the highlights it did appear to be good pressure by the hurricanes to force the errors and scoop up the ball for their tries. I did see jantjies varying his play and positioning. His floating flat pass over the top was great vision.

 Congrats to the Lions and Jantjies, it was looking desperate at 22-3. They showed a lot of heart and composure to come back. I trust that this will be Jantjies Rubicon game and that he can become a constant performer despite whatever the opposition throw at him. Superficial I agree that he needs to do something with his hair. 

Not a Lions or Jantjies fan but well done to both and trust that they can pull off the big win to send Ackerman up north with a Super Rugby title under his belt.
If anyone deserves recognition for his effort in building a squad up from almost last to the top of the SR series it is the man.....ACKERMAN. 
He was an inspiration both as a manager and a down to earth individual who understood the fundamentals of the game and his players.
Unfortunately, I never had the courage to place a bet on the Lions much to the annoyance of Plum and company.
But to see the Lions win will more than makeup for the loss.
