Despite the atatcks on Erasmus by Mozart (more guarded recently - but still repeating some of the same idiocies - and AO as mad as a march hare and even more idiotic lately - Venter had a clear idea about the SA and NZ coaching,   In Stuff in NZ he wrote the following article:-

"Former Springbok assistant coach Brendan Venter says Rassie Erasmus has earned the right to decide who the team's next head coach should be.

Earlier this month, Erasmus led the Springboks to Rugby World Cup glory in Japan but he has indicated that he'll step down as head coach to focus on his role as SA Rugby's director of rugby.

Reports have indicated that Jacques Nienaber, the current defence coach, will be the next Springbok head coach.

"Erasmus is in charge and whenever you get a strong leader making good decisions people follow him. If he wants to appoint defence coach Jacques Nienaber, South African Rugby must let him," Venter wrote in a column for New Zealand's Stuff.co.nz website.

The former Bok centre added: "Even if he hadn't won the World Cup, Rassie has earned the right to call the shots because he has got everybody pulling in the same direction. The fact is you need direction and leadership and that is what he has afforded this group."

Erasmus and Nienaber have a long history, having first met in the army before crossing paths at the University of the Free State's Shimlas team where Nienaber was the physiotherapist and Erasmus the captain.

When Erasmus became coach of the Free State Cheetahs, he appointed Nienaber as strength and conditioning coach, with the latter later shifting his focus to the team's defensive structures.

Nienaber followed Erasmus to the Stormers and also Munster in Ireland, before starting at the Springboks last year.

South Africa's World Cup win was built on a staunch defensive structure and for that Nienaber deserves credit.

In his column, Venter also shared his views on who should become the next All Blacks coach.

According to Venter, it's a "three-horse race" between Ian Foster, Jamie Joseph and Scott Robertson, with the latter his preferred candidate.

Foster was New Zealand's assistant coach under Steve Hansen, Joseph took Japan to the World Cup quarter-finals, while Robertson has won three consecutive Super Rugby titles with the C rusaders."

Now we can expect the following - an all-out attack on Venter by our two self-proclaimed experts on site.   After all how dare he describes Erasmus as a  "strong" leader after they claimed he is a weak one,

Very pleased to see that Jamie Joseph has decided to stay with the Brave Blossoms. He has done wonders for them and I hope he takes them even further.

There is no future for any coach in South Africa and I doubt he had any interest in the Quota Goats anyway.

Why would he? Who wants to be dictated to?

At least Joseph can select his team that side without interference. Here he'll be obligated to pick an ever increasing percentage of undeserving natives.

It is what it is.

The Goats will soon be on par with the cricketers ... and I look forward to that day big time.

I wonder ... are there any muslim quotas playing rugby here?

Kolbe crosses himself regularly so I guess he's a catholic.

Jantjies?

Gelant?

Am?

They're sure to be regulars in the Goats mix.

As for Organhuffer one wonders what he is smoking. I hope he regains his sanity.

Seems you are in the wrong again.  Jantjies - which one?  Elton is and has always been useless on test level and will not be in the test side in future.  Gelant is no Muslim and no front- line player anyway,   Am I know nothing about,  He is from KZN and I doubt very much whether he is a Muslim anyway,

Assumptions are always dangerous things and I believe no basis for player evaluation in rugby.   Despite what you seems to believe - most players were in the Springbok based on merit.  I still want to know which ones were not,  I believe Jantjies and Gelant were two of the non-merit selections.  Most people claim that Kolisi was another one - but I am afraisd that is where it ends.

I do not believe Joseph was a candidate for the SA Chief Coach position anyway,   If there is a NZ coach who may be it is Plumtree and  he had experience in coaching in SA anyway,.

In a way I am sorry for AO - he has gone bananas and has been tagged along by Mozart.  Both were avid supporters of Meyer and even Coetzee - and if there is one thing those two will never do it is admitting they were and by implication are still wrong.

Mozart went on the anti-Erasmus drive from the date Erasmus was appointed and still is,   They hate three players in the squad - Du Toit, De Jager and De Allende - and as far as they are concerned - that is enough to condemn Erasmus for life.

I do not think the y would ever change their opinion of Erasmus - they are just not able to without admitting they were wrong over a five year period and was always punting the wrong way to go.

Anyhow think of how many arguments there wouldn't have been if the Trio hadn't gone bonkers on these issue. As you well know the board is all about having a go with rugby a convenient excuse. Hahahahahaha!!!

If you read carefully what Mozart came up with since he final - he is still on the same hobby-horse he was before - only some slight differences in emphasis.   He still forecast doom and gloom about the future - just like AO does,   He claimed for instance that opposing teams would find counters for the final game plan and it will become worthless - while not even knowing which game plan counters would be found for..

He still attacks the same players he used to attack and often enough produced manufactured descriptions to blame them for deficiencies - blaming them mostly for deficiencies of other players as well.

Just using different terminology is not changing the basis of  his attacks on Erasmus - it is just the basis of using a slightly different angle for the same purpose.

Nope I never predicted doom and gloom. I said we had a good shot at winning the final. Muck you seem to have ramped up your personal  attacks since I pointed out you were totally opposed to Eraser's tactics. That you were locked in dead head 'expansive' rugby.

As for the idea that Rassie has earned the 'right to name his successor'. What utter nonsense. He has earned the right to make a recommendation.....the responsibility of making the decision rests with SA Rugby. Organizational theory 101. What an uneducated bloke you are for all your bragging.

Maybe Brendan Venter should take some time off and avoid the media. He made a fool of himself when he was trying to be clever with the media towards the end of his tenure at Saracens.

He was supposed to be the saviour of SA rugby which also turned out to be a polished turd. Then he ran of to Italy with his inside info in the SA team to help Italy beat SA. Everybody thought that he was the bee’s knees but then he pissed of and left them high and dry as well.

This was Venter a  year ago. Do you hear a different tune:

'As much as we want to blame Meyer and Coetzee for the Springboks' slump in recent times – losing to Japan and suffering a record defeat to the All Blacks – we can't cast them as scapegoats because Erasmus is now also struggling. And if he keeps on chopping and changing, because all he is looking at is results and winning at all costs, he will follow the same path as his predecessors.'

Mozart

I am not in the habit of tracing threads - but did you not carry on about the game plan in the final will be studied and easily countered in future.   And also implied that Erasmus is weak and changed the game plan because of a media storm after the semi and that he constantly seeks media attention?

Those kind of remarks are not complimentary to Erasmus at all - it actually shows animus against the man I am afraid,   There was no indication that Erasmus did not know exactly how he wanted the team to play from the word go and even got player input when selling the paln to them and they supported it all out.

So there was nothing new for the players,   The decision was based every time on what the opposing teams were up to and how they could be countered.   I also was critical about the way the Wales game was played - but Draad pointed out that there were too many errors made by the players and that could have impacted on the final result.

However, in the final the players hardly ever made mistakes and I do not think to hammer on that game differences in the semi as against what happened in the final is of real importance.

On the whole I think to look at the past constantly  and claim that the Springboks is blunt in execution like AO is carrying on about, is of any real value.  Fact is the Springboks played an excellent game in the final - probably the best game they played in the past ten years - and what was written subsequently should have had objective comments - not criticism in the way some members have carried on about.

Er muck.....that's exactly the heading of one of my strings.....'One of the best Bok games for Years'. I was complimentary about that game because we played what I consider to be Bok rugby. What I have been wanting the Boks to do for years.

Dial back  the over expansive rugby we played at Ellis Park in 2013 against the ABs.....didn't suit us. But dial up the stodgy and ineffective rugby we played against Wales in the 2019 semi. Subdue and penetrate....remember? Fortunately all the negative commentary after Wales and no doubt the narrow win, induced Eraser to be more flexible.

Now next year will be more difficult. Because our WC intensity will be hard to maintain and no doubt the dumb critics will be salivating over some wide open rugby in Super Rugby. And we will have lost some great players.

And we need more than Eraser was able to produce.....better use of great ball. But not at the expense of losing what we had in the Pom game. Incremental improvements, not a revolution.

Stick with Moz.

Mozart

What about  the media storm after the Wales semi and how that forced Erasmus into a changed game plan and the other thongs I mentioned?

Anyway I do not think anybody wants a revolution.  What is important  that the process of improvement over the 18 months since the appointment of Erasmus should comntinue and developed further.

However, there are a number of replacements that would have to be made,   The key one is Beast and then also on the bench  Louw and Steyn.    Then there are also injuries to be catered for.

The first two tests next year in July will be against Scotland - nobody knows who the third July test will be against,.  I do foresee that taking into account the opponents there is a chance that  some experimentation will take place in those two tests - if Erasmus's approach of the past is taken onto account.     We will have to see who will be invited to the training camp in May- June next year,

I think that the key players will not be changed - but some others may be,   Erasmus to my mind should look at some of the following:-

Backline
Players already in the WC squad   -   Nkosi, Kriel, WillemsePotential new squad members       -   Serfontein, Impi Visser, Muller du Plessis.
I would like to see Du Plessis at full back - extreme pace and very good defense, together with Kolbe and Mapimpi will be a head ache for any defenders,
Forwards
There is a problem here - I would like to see  a replacement for Vermeulen  and think there are two possibilities - Streicher and  Coetzee.   I do not think you have ever seen Streicher playing.  Big guy much like Vermeulen - but more pace and  very good at breakdowns.  Coetzee is a smaller guy  - but did very well for the Stormers this year.
Louw replacement  -   I do not think that Kwagga was really good enough in any of the tests he played in.   Kriel is also on the elderly side  and I think that the loosies will come from either Coetzee or Van Staden.    The Du Preez twins may be in the mix too - but???????
Locks - my money is on Etzebeth, De Jager and Snyman - with Schickerling and Jacques du Plessis having outside chances.   I do not think Mostert will be in the mix in future,
Props - Frankly do not know - my first choice to replace Beast would be Pierre Schoeman - but the choice may be Ox Nche.   On the Tight Head side they will have to look at a replacement for both  Koch and Nyakane sometimes over the next wo years  - but have no idea about that one.
As to the replacement of Brits - probably Ndweba of the Cheetahs.
SUMMARY
Not too many changes - but against the Scots a real chance to experiment a bit,

The way he brought in and built discipline, esprit de corps, etc, etc. He Eddie used to arrive at five in the morning and he had all the keys to all the gates and doors. He started planning and showed and helped the staff unpacking exactly the equipment needed for the day. By the time the players, coaches and support staff arrived they had everything 100% in place for the day. Towards the end of Brendan’s tenure they made a similar documentary. He himself said that there was nothing much for him to do. He just carried on exactly where Eddie left off, using the same principles, structures and philosophies.

This started off by quoting of an article by Venter and in essence did not deal with what he wrote in the article - but in what he wrote in the past.   Like happened on this site  Venter is human and make mistakes in what he wrote in the past and to just ignore what he has learnt over the past year is just escaping to discuss what he wrote now.

Just comment on the following from Mozart:-

Sorry Mozart - you are wrong here.   Erasmus signed his contract containing one important condition - he will decide on the appointment of all coaching staff and will not tolerate interference by anybody else.   Any decision to breach that condition will nullify the Erasmus contract and that will not happen after the WC victory,   So Erasmus will himself decide on who to appoint and why - that issue was dealt with by some of the media in SA before.

What make you head raas as the nice guy Draad said,   For reasons stated a number of times before - including the start of the tests series of 2018 and the WC being only 15 months away - a new Head Coach appointment would be the wrong way to go,  Erasmus decided to handle the Head Coach responsibility temporarily till after the WC and then a new Head Coach appointment will be  made.

Erasmus appointed all his supporting staff thus far himself.   He even brought staff working for Munster with him  and he also appointed Proudfoot,   He shifted Stick to a different job,   Now suddenly the dim one made another totally idiotic remark - and one has to laugh at what you came up with.   LMAO
