after the RWC. Drat these parasitic frogs. I have no time for them anymore. May their rugby languish until even sides like samoa beat them!

Ex Planet Rugby:

Toulon have found their replacement for the retiring Bakkies Botha with reports that Eben Etzebeth has signed for the French champions.

According to local paper Var Matin, the Springbok lock will join the club from the South of France after next year's World Cup.

It would be a major coup for Mourad Boudjellal, who will lose Botha at the end of the season when he hangs up his boots.

Clermont Auvergne were believed to be keen on signing Etzebeth from the Stormers, but it seems his heart is set on Toulon.

Etzebeth would join the likes of Mamuka Gorgodze, Ali Williams, Romain Taofifenua and Jocelino Suta as second row options next year, while Samu Manoa is also believed to have signed for the club.

The 23-year-old Etzebeth has 33 Springbok caps to his name since making his debut back in 2012.

It is quite possible Manoa has signed, the rumours at Northampton are linking him with a move to France alongside George Pisi and Dylan Hartley......the latter is causing a bit of consternation as it was suggested he would move before the RWC. If so, that would be rather strange given his standing with England.......We shall see...

Snapster any hope of building a team up to win the Super Rugby comp must be slim indeed. The rate of exodus has reached alarmin levels and now includes our top young talent. Who is next is the only questi on.

May be the World Rugby organisation has to look at salary caps for teams. They finally did this in the NFL as a way to help ensure the more even distribution of talent. This was only within the US of course but we have to think about such a solution globally.
From a player perspective they would not mind a bidding war and in terms of the "free market" it is fine but it does have a big negative impact on national teams.

JW the obv ious solution is that teh nH parasites like France engalknd Ireland etc put a cap on the number of foreigners a club can sign. One would be a good figure. Just to show them what class is about!!
I find their approach to ruby shameful - they have no pride. Importing foreigners to win their local comps for them. What a disgrace they are. Of course Oz and the kiwis are about as bad ransacking Pacific Island talent. We are about the only ones clean on this front.
Honest Saffas we are! We play it straight and fair. No connivance etc. An example to the world!

Yeah right. I would like see the backlash if France or England ask World Rugby to interfere in SA Rugby because of a situation that they cannot handle. We would be the first ones to tell them to get stuffed.
It is not France and England's fault that our currency is worth nothing and that we can't offer players the same opportunities.

This scenario is thanks to Heyneke Meyer who convinced SARU to pick overseas players.

The only way to stop this rot is to stop selecting overseas players.

For me it is simple, if you want the money go for it, but then you don't play for the Boks.

"Drat these parasitic frogs. I have no time for them anymore."

Ironic that the same posters who are so upset by this exodus of players are the same posters who have always been so vocal about the rights of overseas-based players to play for the Springboks.

Seriously Baboon-ou, what did you think might happen . . . and why are you suddenly so tearful because it's one of your favourites who's now sold his soul for the money? I don't remember you blubbering like this when it was Arno Botha or Paul Willemse signing up for the overseas gravy-train. Why is Abbey Elizabeth so different?

If I were picking the Springbok RWC squad then I wouldn't have a single overseas-based player. Not one.

I certainly dont blame the guys going Moz as I have said many times - I am suprised so many stay. Rooitwit I have consistently regretted the departure of any South African player going overseas apart from the old guys getting a final payday. Wake up please!!
Cerudunce windpomp given the massive player exodus and the fact that players like Etzebeth wont be playing in South Africa the only logical step is to have a policy to pick our best whether they play here or overseas. The wisdom of thee words should be very apparent and even more so after the RWC. We cant play our second team and hope to dominate world rugby as is our rightful expectation! Your approach rooitwit will NOT stop players going overseas to earn their fortune (Jaque Fourie R20 million for two years work!!). It will only weaken the Boks. Get real please rooitwit you are being far too emotional about this!! Apply lonely brain cell etc!
These NH countries have no pride or desire to give their own players the best opportunities. May it come to bite their national teams as it well could. England won 1 world soccer cup I believe. Their premier league is supposed to be top class but is made up of so many foreign players. They are no longer much of a force internationally and apart from a  team a centiry perhaps are unlikely to be a force in world soccer.
The next phase for these parasites is to get young players overseas before they have played for the Boks to bolster their national sides. Its the obvious thing to do. Why wouldnt they? Parasites wiull be parasites!

Wagner thinks Etzebeth will be staying at WP till 2016 but he maybe wrong.
Cape Town - Western Province have brushed off reports linking lock Eben Etzebeth with a move to French giants Toulon.

French newspaper Var Matin reported over the weekend that the Springbok lock could join Toulon after next year's Rugby World Cup.

The 23-year-old Capetonian is seen as an ideal replacement for compatriot Bakkies Botha, who recently retired from international rugby and will leave Toulon at the end of the current European season.

WP Rugby chief executive Rob Wagner, dismissed the reports, saying Etzebeth is contracted to the union until the end of the 2016 season.

"I'm not disturbed by such rumours," Wagner toldNetwerk24.

However, players getting early releases from their contracts in modern rugby is commonplace, especially when Euros are compared to Rands.

Etzebeth is seen as the ideal replacement for Botha at Toulon, who are the current French and European champions. He has played 33 Tests for the Springboks since making his debut against England in Durban in 2012.

It seesm Chester has seen the light. Overseas players must be selected for the Boks if theyare the best of course
SportCape Town - Former Springbok wing Chester Williams says he has no issue with overseas-based players being selected for the Boks.

Williams spoke to Die Son newspaper after news broke that French club Toulon were interested in signing Bok lock Eben Etzebeth after next year's Rugby World Cup.

According to French newspaper, Var Matin, the 23-year-old Capetonian is seen as an ideal replacement for compatriot Bakkies Botha, who recently retired from international rugby and will leave Toulon at the end of the current European season.

Williams, who has been helping of late to develop rugby in the relatively infant market of Saudi Arabia, said rugby is a professional game which shouldn't have any restrictions on players moving abroad, especially not if they get the opportunity to earn large amounts of money overseas.

According to Williams, as long as a player shows pride in representing represent his country and would still like to play for the Boks, then he should be considered for selection, especially if there is a shortage of international quality players in the local game.

"I think it will be a good professional decision for him (Etzebeth)," said Williams.

However, Western Province were quick to dismiss the reports and brushed it off as mere "rumours".

Their chief executive Rob Wagner told Netwerk24 that Etzebeth is contracted to the union until the end of the 2016 season.

Yes, let's continue to select overseas players, until the whole bloody bok team is playing overseas.

Then our fans have no one they identify with.

Fu...n smart idea.

Then we can select the whole bloody Bok team on reputation.

The local players will have no in because they would be measured up to a reputation which is mythical in its existence.

What a way to go, soon we will have Vodacom sides playing CUrrie Cup and Super Rugby, we'll be the laughing stock of world rugby.

Players will go regardless of bok contracts. you cant earn R20 million for 2  years work here.End of story. Beeno the realist pointing out what is very obvious.
Dont be surprised if young Etzebeth is off overseas after the world cup along with a number of others. There are now mor Boks playing overseas than are here in SA. Long term the currency is expected to weaken further. Secure your future for LIFE by playing overseas for a few years. leave the money offshore etc. The fact is a Bok contract is no guarantee of keeping a player here. Its a professional game and money has the loudest voice. The cumulative effect of these losses will make us well off our best. We will cut our throats by not selecting overseas players.
Let common sense prevail. BB lest not get emotional about this - let calm heads and logic prevail.

Beeno, do you want to see a springbok team with no local players?

Will you be passionate about seeing players you don't see any other time of the year?

This is what will happen.

All Boks will go overseas if they get an offer.

Those that have aspirations to become Springboks and are being overlooked because of reputations will leave.

The quality of our competitions will get worse and worse.

Eventually people will lose interest in a rugby due to the poor quality.

There is no way to compare a player in SA to a player overseas who is selected on reputation, when do you know a local player is now good enough for a coach to a last give up on the overseas player, (a) until he decides to retire or (B) until he is injured?

BB the worst scenario for me is a Bok side languising at any spot but number 1. We have enough problems besides not picking our best players just becasue they are overseas. If you could convince me they wont go because they are afraid of losing their Bok spot if they go overseas you may have a point. But I dont believe that is the case.

Beeno, you are not answering my question, when do we know they are no longer the best?

Knowing that they will NOT lose their Bok spot has thus far only encouraged them to go.

Besides that, I have previously given the reasons and complications in regards to selecting overseas players and how it affects preparations etc.

I know I am in the minority in this regards, many just accept the status quo "he has been the best the last decade, so must still be" but I don't, on the evidence seen over the last three years only Francois Louw has not lost form.

I want my country to be represented by the best local players, everyone says "Ja but what if the best player is overseas?"

How the hell do you know that? You are comparing the idealistic notion of reputation playing overseas to proof at home.

I have just read he is staying put until his contract expires in 2016....

BB there are wasy of assessing overseas players. Watch tapes of the games. Go and watch the games personally if necessar. How old are the  guys. Are they bench players. Atre they palying 80 minutes. Are they winning man of the match awards. What are their stats saying etc etc.

Surely you are not going to tell me when Etzebeth leaves in 201 in the prime of his palying days we must write him off for the Boks.

I have already said there will be top players who will go regardless of losing their Bok spot. Eg Bekker.

BB the way its going to work for the wise player is up your market value by playing test rugby for a couple of season and then while relatively young go and play abroad and earn double or more.

Retire a rich man for life with earnings safely invested overseas.

Do you think Jaque Fopurie was worried about his Bok spot - of course not and rightly so. The steps he has taken have set him up for life!

 Ha, fanciful.

When a player leaves he is putting his game management, his career, his form and conditioning and his availability for tests in the hands of his new club.

A Springbok coach needs his players to be available to him when he does pre season training camps, he needs his whole squad together for as long as possible prior to a tournament or tour, he needs to know he can rely on the players being available during tests.

A Springbok coach wants continuity in training, preparation and selections.

He should be able to compare his players when they play each other in matches during the local season to assess whether players have lost form, reaction time, speed and are up to the pace he requires his team to perform.

If that is just fanciful requirements, then by all means, continue with the status quo and continue to fail

"When a player leaves he is putting his game management, his career, his form and conditioning and his availability for tests in the hands of his new club."

We have better game management and conditioning in South Africa? Really? The South African franchises/unions are just as bound to international windows as as the overseas clubs are.

What is more worrying, for me, is the quality of Super Rugby after the start of the Super 500, or whatever they are going to call it. The conference system was already a step backwards, and it has shown. In the days of the S14, it was almost a given that SA, NZ and OZ would return from their EOYTs with a clean sheet. When last did all three of SA, NZ and OZ return from the NH unbeaten?
