Doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different outcome is not the mark of a switched on coach. Gatland totally contradicted himself going for players who could ‘run into gaps’ and then playing a trench warfare game.

The fact that this fossil is being touted to coach another Lions team is astonishing.

We all guessed correctly that Russell would be the player to break ranks. He’s absolutely right, of course.

As for Gatland taking the reins again, I believe he just has to confirm he’ll do it such is the desire of the Lions to have him back. A ridiculous notion so I suppose it will happen !

He was absolutely devoid of ideas or conviction. Played his part in the worst Lions tour of all time.

Gatland has always been a one trick pony.

Believe the bookies have Andy Farrell as the early favorite to lead the next Lions tour.

He played the Welsh semi 4 times and still couldn’t understand why he lost.

Jason Leonard and the CEO, I think, both want Gatland for the next tour. They say he just has to agree and that’s that.

Crazy, the man has offered everything he’s got….he is intellectually bankrupt.

There’s a tear in my eye

And I’m wondering why

For it never should be there at all

The same reason the plastics have tears is the same reason they can't see the game clearly.

Hahahaha….perhaps that’s Draad’s problem today, and I thought it was just his roids acting up!

The Lions were like the Boks in the 1st test, with no plan B.

When up and under's are working well for the team making the kicks, there is no better way in test rugby to put pressure on the opposition, forcing them into mistakes in their half.
(Like in the 2nd test, in the 2nd half when the Boks were winning up and under's 70/30).
However, when the opposition is winning the ariel battle, there is no point in kicking it to them. It is just handing over possession.

The Lions dominated the 1st test in the air, but when it stopped working in the 2nd test, and even the third test- they just continued with this tactic.

Finn Russell certainly made the game better and proved that the way to beat the Bok defense is to move the ball around and keep the ball in hand. He did say Gatland had said this during the week as the game plan, but it did not appear to be the case until Russell entered the pitch,

The All Blacks are currently the team that can beat the Bok defense, but the Lions came pretty close in the third test- and if not for some basic errors could potentially have won the match in the first half.

For the Boks, they need to develop their backline attacking game from phase play. When the opposition is winning the ariel battle, there needs to be a Plan B.
There needs to be more backline moves with skip passes, fullback or blindside winger cutting the backline to get the wingers into the game.
The 8th man also needs to link more with backs in the loose.

It is also harder to defend against if the opposition is not expecting you to kick all of the time.
Backs will lie further back on kicks, which can open up some space on the advantage line for running the ball.

The entire structure needs to change. It's not as simple as using the backs more, but using the backs differently in unison with the forwards. That's the modern game. The Boks gave it more to the backs and tried to go wide against the Pumas but didn't look like creating very much. The cross field kick was great, but aside from that, the Pumas really shot themselves in the foot. The Boks had a sizeable lead without really don't anything. Pumas too deep and lacking composure when they had the Boks on the ropes. They really did tear into our defence. Once you make a breach, the Bok defence crumbles with alarming ease.

The Meyer model was to dominate the middle of the field and have all options open to the 9. Fluid and quickly developing attacking shapes. More interesting attacking ploys. All a lot flatter and probing more quickly. Losing Alberts was a big blow, but now we have answers to that problem. Our loose trio is unbalanced, but the personnel is available. The slow, heavily scripted and clunky attacking structure of the Josè rein doesn't work. It didn't work at the Stormers and it hasn't worked for the Boks.
