Pienaar is another player SARugby has handled very poorly. As a young very promising scrummie he was redeployed as a flyhalf. Totally predictably he failed in that role.....which tainted his position as du Preez's understudy. So when du Preez exited Pienaar was also sent packing. ......... But we are left with hopelessly inadequate alternatives.....Faf is a brave player who got worse after being given the role, and Reinach is an athlete, but technically very deficient and a basket case on the YE tour in 2014......now suddenly touted again as the answer. ........ It's silly stuff. In Pienaar we have an experienced leader who would enhance Pollard at 10. An unpopular player his errors have always been magnified and his successes diminished. But he is our best scrumhalf by a mile. He could also play the same role Machenaud does for France today, including the goal kicking if necessary. ............. Time to get real.

Still all agog about elderly has beens.   He was pathetic in the Japan test last year and bog ordinary in tests since 2012 - so what makes him the new "wunderkid"?

Pienaar 59 wins/27 losses as a Bok, a 69% win ratio.......Raainacht 5 wins/5 losses, a 50% win ratio.....Faf 3 wins/8 losses a 27% win ratio. The Boks 89/47 over that period a 64% win ratio. I wouldn't have mentioned it but you blamed the Japanese loss on Ruan....eat your crow Tokkie!|

A team record often enough does not reflect the record of an individual - to state that it does is really the pits.   If it was you blame individual players for losses.
I refr to the personal performances of Pienaar.

Pienaar has played 90 odd tests for the Boks in a critical role with an almost 70% success ratio. That's enough tests to eliminate variance.....of course he played a significant role in that record. No team could have been succesful against the kind of opposition we played without a very competent scrumhalf....go suck eggs plank.

Mozart, you changed your avatar or has Rooi hacked the system & done this for you? Surely you are not afraid to look in the looking glass If Pienaar is selected they should develop you talent behind him from the bench.

There was a virus in my laptop that changed a few of the avatars, I cleaned it out. I should have known something was wrong as there is no way you would change yours

Pienaar was very good against poor sides and very poor against good sides. As starting scrumhalf against New Zealand and Australia he was on the winning side only 3 times out of 17 matches. That is a win ratio of 17.6%. Against New Zealand as starting scrumhalf it is 0 from 8!

If you include his other matches from the bench, or in other positions, it is still only 20%.

From that you can deduct:
1. He was even better against the poor sides than what the 68% suggests. (Exluding Japan of course...)
2. He was absolutely pathetic as a starting scrumhalf against our main opponents
3. He was okay as a bench option, but only just...
4. He was a great option, if you wanted to rest someone against weaker opposition

Nope stick with Faf and Reinach. Face facts no back looks great in Coetzee's disfunctional outfit. It' s a huge handicap playing under Coetzee. Great example was the demise of Jantjes as a flyhalf when he played for Coetzee. At the Lions he plays well enough.

Guys, we cannot possibly attribute a team's win or loss to one player, can we?  That the player had a contribution to make and maybe failed in his portion of the 23+1 people is true but very difficult to extrapolate in a manner which will truly and logically expose his contribution.  We tend to nail the coach as well when teams lose and that is also unfair for the same / similar reason.
Pienaar was and still is an ordinary scrummy. He was slow as hell at times and at other times he kicked too many balls away.  Kicks that did not change the advantage in favour of his team, rather they mostly gave the opposition a better angle of attack.
I really do not think that he is our best at the moment, and even if he was he has already stated that he is no longer available for international duty.To be honest, I'd pick Embrose Papier or Marco van Vuuren of the Junior Boks before Pienaar.
One of the problems we have at Springbok level is the constant chopping and changing.  The coach must select his key players and only when really necessary should they be changed.  My take is that a 9 & 10 should form a unit and as such should be replaced as a unit if possible.  For example: (and I am not saying these are the best combos) If Faf and Polard are the no1 combo then they should play like that and when the bench is used then Jantjies and Reinach should come on as a unit.
The cohesion of a team is important in the final analysis of their performance as communication in split-second can be the difference between win or lose.
Finally - Pienaar would do well with Earl Rose..similar players...

Faf was imploding last year.....he was fabulous off the bench against Ireland but a basket case on the YE tour. Reinach has no game management nous....he doesn't get when to do what. A fine athlete but a robot. We need someone else.....badly.

I have to agree with Beeno on this one, Boks need to develop a 9 or two & at the moment Faf & Reinach. Pienaar should be used also, maybe starting, but as the other two develop he should be used less. In short proper player development. The problem at 10 also impacts the development of the half back & Boks need some stability at 10.

What has any of this got to do with Fantasy Rugby?
Tawera Kerr-Barlow and Cobus Reinach look the value on Foxsports .
TJ Perenara and Augustine Pulu if you can afford them.

Granted Pienaar did have a few excellent games.
The problem is that all those good games were when he was playing for Ulster.
Never rated him as an exciting or great scrum-half or fly-half but an average player who did his best coming onto the field as a replacement.
Unfortunately, the Boks have many issues to resolve in many positions starting with the coach and his management team.
With the mess that the SARU has created for itself plus the direction from the ANC I for one do not see any light at the end of the tunnel.
But wait that sounds like a train approaching..........
Amen.

Pienaar imploded in the Japanese test in 2015.    He is a no better player than Reinach and at lwasr in tests he scored more tries than Pienaar did since 2012,
Mozart dislikes Reinach with a vengeance - he gave a falsified veropm pf Reinach's performances even when he had a good game.
Buy the way no scrummie was more robotic than Pienaar - his constant aimless kicking mostly hand over possession to opposing teams.   Problem with Mozrt is that Pienaar is the right age to play for the Springboks despite his sun;standard international performances.
