Mitchell should have got the job, hopefully I am wrong.... Brendan Venter is decent- but I am not convinced about Gary Gold.

Both JS and Venter have worked with Gold before and should be better judges of his worth than we bunch of arm chair critics. Having said that, I love what Jimmy Stonehouse did at the Pumas this past two years.

You can't go wrong with Dr Venter. Seems a pretty good combo to me and should see the hapless guppies improving. Lots ofexperience here. Two real coaches.

Ludeke was a flop when he signed at the Bulls and he did the job for a while. Meyer was also initially fired by the Bools and only had success on his return to loftus. Like I said, Venter and JS knows their Rugby and both have worked with Gold before. Hopefully they know better than us. I must say, if GG was appointed at Newlands, I would have worried, but with Venter in the mix as well, it is a different story.

DbD I agree, I am not sold on Gold, but Venter is solid. I wonder if this is Venter's way of getting back onto the SA scene. Maybe this is his first step towards trying to get the Bok job?

One only has to look at how the wee guppies collapsed against the Lions to realise how much they missed Jake.
An Oz journo was tipping Jake for the Wallabys job. Venter is the brain the Sharks need with the departure of that fine rugby brain Jake White - who schooled both Sir John and Graham.

Gary Gold (born 6 July 1967)[1] is a professional Rugby Union coach currently employed as Head Coach of Kobelco Steelers.
Growing up in Cape Town, South Africa Gold attended Wynberg Boys' High School.
Gold joined London Irish in July 2001 as Forwards Coach under Brendan Venter.[2] At the end of the 02/03 season Venter decided to return to South Africa and Gold took over the Head Coach position which he held until June 2005. As Head Coach Gold led Irish to finishes of 8th and 10th position (of 12 teams) in what was then known as the Zurich Premiership. At the end of the 04/05 season Gold was offered a chance to return to his native Cape Town, London Irish agreed to release him from his contract and he returned to South Africa to take up the role of Forwards Coach[3] at Western Province (rugby team).
After two seasons as Forwards Coach Gold took on the role of Head Coach at Western Province in July 2007 after Kobus Van Der Merwe and Jerome Paarwater resigned from their positions as Head Coach and Assistant Head Coach respectively.[4
]
In May 2008 Gold was appointed by Peter de Villiers as an Assistant Coach of the Springboks. He would hold this position during the British and Irish Lions 2009 tour of South Africa and the 2011 Rugby World Cup in which the Springboks were knocked out in the quarter finals after a controversial 11-9 defeat to Australia.[5]
In January 2012 with Newcastle Falcons nine points adrift in the relegation zone of the Aviva Premiership they announced that Gold and Mike Ford (rugby) would join the club. Gold was made Head Coach and Ford Defence Coach. By the end of the season Newcastle had all but closed the points gap on London Wasps and ended up being relegated by one point.
In May 2012 Bath Rugby appointed Gold as Head Coach of a coaching team that includes Ford, Brad Davis, Toby Booth and Neil Hatley.[6] However, after a lacklustre season, Gold was elevated to Director of Rugby, with Ford becoming Head Coach.
Despite Bath Rugby's best start to a season for many years, on 9 December 2013 Gold was shown the door by Bruce Craig,[7] a move that has baffled and angered fans, especially as it seems England Rugby League Coach Steve McNamara may join the club ad backs and skills in yet another perplexing move by the management.
In 2014, Gold was named head coach of Japanese club Kobe Steel Kobelco Steelers.[8]

I am more than disappointed to read about this selection.
I have a great respect for Dr Venter but that is about it.
Will have to supporting my local team if this is the case and disconnect from the Sharks.

Gold is technically very good. Fine analist. I think he might do well under the guidance of Venter. Look how much better WP is doing under the same coaches, but with Smal chipping in.

With the funds that the Sharks have available........they could have hired a real coach.
But it appears they wish to cut costs while they get rich at the cost of providing a team and support staff that will deliver the type of game and result that all supporters are paying out each week for.
Same old, same old.
Pity, but I thought better of the guys at the top.

Beenis...the Wee Stormers collapsed in the Currie Cup final against the Lions. The final score hid the magnitude of the collapse. Didn't the Stormers, with all their big money and names also only finish one point ahead in the S15? Maybe it's best to applaud the team that wins as opposed to dissing the team that loses.
Not a GG fan either though.

Plumpie if you had any ability to comprehend what you read you would have realised I had little faith in quota coach Alistair Coetzee. This flopped Bok backline coach (a quota appointment) then was a quota apppointment at WP. With the talent at his disposal he should have done better but became defence obsessed and failed in implement a balanced game plan until Smal arrived to imprive things. On top of that the halfwit played the smallest backline in the comp by some way and they cracked agains the big boys.
Sorry I have little confidence in sides run on quotas lines.

Sharkbok, what exactly is the purpose of going back over a year into the archives just to make a comment on Gary Gold and Willie le Roux that you could simply have made with a new post ?
If Gold is dumb enough to base his game plan on the hopelessly overrated Willie le Roux then the Sharks are in even deeper trouble than I thought.
