Good news for the Stormers

There were some weak spots in the Stormers backline up to now in Super 15.  The one was at flyhalf after the injury to Du Preez - but the really poor position was playing De Jongh at 12.  
I phoned the Stormers office this morning and they told me that Damian de Allende has started training yesterday.  He won't be ready this coming weekend and since the Stormers has a bye next week - he will start playing in the week afterwards - ie in Round 7.   
I would rather like to see Jean-Luc Du Plessis at flyhalf than Coleman.   He has bulked up considerably since he played for the Under 20's and is a very good reader of the game.  
Would still prefer the following backline for the Stormers:-
15  EW Viljoen14  Van Wyk13  Du Plessis12  De Allende11  Zas10  J-L du PLessis  9  Groom
21  Schreuder22  Coleman (until return of Du Preez)23  De Jongh/Jones/Kolbe
All the above are strong physical ball carriers - unlike the midget players they used to date. 
The problem is the above will not meet the quota system - for which players like De Jongh, Leyds and Kolbe must be eternally grateful.

It may be laughable in your view - Kolbe is not a realistic full back - you yourself said you would play him on the wing.  So lets accept that - so the choice is between him and Zas.  I frankly prefer the latter.  

Actually I think you mean Saffex. That said I do think Kolbe is not playing at quite the level he was last year, he almost seems reluctant to take on the defence

 Each season Kolbe gets a bit more gun shy. Who can blame the little guy. He is extremely talented but scrummie is his position as I have said for years

Sorry to disappoint you - but the emphasis was on the return of De Allende - who played the fool with all the NZ centers last year - especially with Nonu and SB Williams.   Can remember how he shrugged off Williams in one match as of he was not even there and caused Nonu to be replaced early in the RC test last year.      

 Mike, DdA will definitely boost the Stormers. Previous reports said he would only be ready for the Lions match. Good news indeed!

 As I said - the Stormers believe he will be ready to play in round 7 - the Stormers will be having a bye the next weekend.  The game he will start is most likely tp be against the Sunwolves on 8 April 2016.      

CleverMike; according the self-declared genius Mozart, De Allende has a "tractoring" problem so it's best if you don't get too excited about his return.

Whenever you read any contribution from Mozart - take off 100% of what he says in respect of prejudice against certain players and 50% on other players.
Remember his ideal players have been duds like Frans Steyn, Morne Steyn, Willem Alberts, Victor Matfield and Jannie du Plessis.  Anybody who was competing with those players for selection the prejudice factor accounts for 100% of the negatives iro what he says about the competing players.
The other factor that Mozart advocates is that backline players outside of the flyhalf have no function other than defense.  They should never get decent balls to play with and he is also fully in favour of loose forwards taking over the role of the flyhalfs.  
And De Allende did play the fool with Nonu and SB Williams when he played against them in matches last year - so how would you rate them?     

I would only play Kolbe on the wing and yes he has not fired this season to date but class is class.....play him on the wing and let him roam.....one of the certainties in the Stormers side......for he has the x factor
He would be in my backline long before the likes of Lleyds, Zas, Kotze, de Jongh and Coleman

Geez JW get your facts straight. Allende tractors, Jordaan has small shoulders, Stephanie has thin wrists, Stepfontein can only step and that off his right foot

Standard crap in this case.  The 100% negativity is paramount coming though here again.  Fact is for example that Du Toit's wrists is twice the size of those of Victoria - also known as Kiewiet, because everything is narrow insofar as he is concerned, his weight being lighter than a standard loosie nowadays.   
Your tractor story came from two games where the flyhalf was rarely used as first receiver from the scrummie - the first receiver was a loosie - and by the time they did   pass the ball to De Allende he was in traffic and could do nothing more than he did.   That was by some distance the wort and most predictable game plan I have seen for years - but you fail to recognize it as absolute crap.  No center can make decent runs in that kind of situation.
What has Jordaan got to do with the whole issue here?   He is strongly built - must stronger physically than your hero De Jongh and he has one thing that De Jongh never had and that is ball sense.   Physically neither suit the position they play in - but if it comes to playing them I would rather have Jordaan in a team than useless and clueless De Jongh - who does not even know how and when to pass a ball.
