Goosen shoots friend

Eastern Cape police have confirmed that Springbok fly-half Johan Goosen shot his friend in the ankle at his Lilly Flanders farm this week.

His friend was rushed to hospital in Bloemfontein on Tuesday morning shortly after Goosen accidentally opened fire with a hunting rifle.

The police’s Marinda Mills says the pair have not yet given statements as they were both undergoing medical treatment.“Goosen was very traumatised about the incident. He had to receive treatment and the victim has undergone an operation yesterday and today.

Both the statements must still be obtained. Because of medical reasons they were not fit to give statements and we will continue today with our investigation.”

Nothing more dangerous than going hunting with your friends. I gave up shooting at animals a long time ago, mostly it's a cruel unskilled activity....but it can be dangerous and not because of the animals.

 A shoot at the ankle... Looks like somebody did not respect basic safety measures...

The media has been searching for Goosen. Some thought he was in the UK brokering another deal. What a tragedy, hopefully, the other person that got shot is ok. 
A stupid sport especially given animal numbers are declining.

 Sharkbok, I'm not a hunter myself, but the hunting industry has done more for conservation in SA and Nam than any outher entity. Numbers are up and there are lots of gaming ranches that would not have been there otherwise.

People in SA knew for some time he was in SA.
The incident will help his club as they no longer have to document Goosen's presence in SA.

All these practices that have been carried out by excellent men actually show that the closest thing to an extinction level event the human species will encounter in the near future is going to be coping with  the consequences of excellent men's actions.

Additionally,  the gene flow that is associated to hunting industry  leads wild species to lose some of their characteristics. For example, birds might lose their capacity to migrate.

@Draad, good point. I suppose if hunting is done in a controlled manner. I don't like hunters displaying photos of themselves  on social media with their trophies.

 I used to go deer stalking when I was a young feller ,hunted Thar and Chamois too.All of which arent native to NZ and were considered vermin.Tasty vermin in the case of deer .From being rugged to just plain buggered .Old and bold though .
