Here is an extract dealing with the part played by the ref

Still, underneath the massacre there was a worrying aspect – the Crusaders got away with scrummaging in at every scrum for the second week in a row, and received more than undue reward for their efforts, something that placed a huge influence on the game.

Wyatt Crockett’s continual scrumming inwith a feed that was never straight – made only one outcome possible, and referee Lees decided to penalise the visitors on every occasion.

The penalty try was an interesting result especially as the scrum collapsed once, and on the second go Lees awarded the try. There was no indication a try would have been scored, and the Cheetahs will have much to grumble on about in the week when reviewing the call.

Lees continued to pin one side throughout the game, and even when Joe Moody was blatant in scrumming in on the Cheetahs line, Lees decided that Coenie Oosthuizen had to go to the bin.

The result was an even more lop-sided last 10 minutes, with the Cheetahs capitulating totally and looking like a team that were only interested in getting out of the city unscathed.

Nerver mind about the other travesties I mentioned.

Another shameful display by a bent down under ref - is he the new bryce lawrence?

Looking at the match - with all due respect, the Crusaders were by far the better team and should have win the match.
However, the application of the scrumming laws by the referee was bizarre to say the least.   Either he does not understand the laws or application thereof or he was just plain incompetent.
He allowed the Crusaders props to break the rules in every scrum  - they were allowed to go walk-about or scrum in onto the hooker in ever scrum.  They did it in the first two scrums and got away with it by means of penalties awarded to the Crusaders   - and afterwards got progressively worse and more blatant.
This is the problem with some inexperienced referees - thy lost it when it comes to the application of the laws.    This referee was floundering in this case and will have a lot of explaining to do when his performance in this game is being reviewed.

He came across as a complete tool in the Cheetahs vs Sharks match at the beginning of the saeason, was ridiculously disrespectful and condescending towards the players.
