Having just laboured through this whole thread I am struck by two things. Firstly, people are just too damn sensitive! FFS, grow up and see a stupid insult for what it is, a stupid insult. For the most part it is coming from a complete stranger, so why would you give a rats arse what they say? As for family insults, I don't agree with bringing family into arguments, and have said so many times, but please man, if you can't see the difference between a yo momma type joke and a direct attack on your mother (or father, sister, etc etc) then you need to go back to pre-school and learn how to cope. Finally, if someone has never met and does not know a member of your family, any insult is completely meaningless, why get all hot and bothered? 
The second thing I have noticed, is that people seem to like accusing others of doing the exact thing that they themselves have done. If, for example, you resort to insulting another posters family because they have done the same to you....then you are at the exact same level as them and have no right to comment on it.  
That's my two cents.
