This was my one big gripe last year with the springbok management team. The bring in players into the team when they are not fully ready or in form. Meyer started this trend back in the day with mix results.
A player only have to play 30 min or non and he is automatically selected into the bok team because of his past history.
We have no idea whether the players in Japan or in form. We see how the player perform in Europe, but it is hard to judge each league. We know that a team like Sale with a lot of South Africans does well, but then in the European champions cup, we get beaten by Exacter and in return Exceter get thrashed by a French team.
With 600 SA born players scattered all over the world, it is really hard to judge how good our teams really are and how good our opposition are.
Just remembered back in the Super Rugby days. I would watch some player in the currie cup, they looked amazing. Thinking to myself, wow we have some amazing players, can't wait next year for super rugby and then all of sudden the same player gets destroyed the next season.
So, Rassie believes throwing players in the deep end. If you don't front up, you're gone.
But then we have a player like Dweeb, that should never even been on the bench let alone in the bok team. He goes straight in as a starter over Marx and gets yanked 30 min into the game
So the bok management has made it very clear that the choose
- Colour over form
- Players that have been with the team will always get selected, no matter how poor they are
- If you played at the Stormer, Free state or Munster while Rassie was coaching, you are in.
Jean Kleyn is another example. I do believe he deserves to be there but then there are so many other players that also put up their hand.
