Did you watch the game?   I did and fell asleep at roundabout minute 65.
You would have been most happy with the game - especially with the fact that after Montpellier won a turnover between Harlequins 22 and the halfway line - and had a 5 on 2 overlap they kicked the ball away.   That falls in perfectly with your concept of not to keep ball in hand, unless you are within the opposition 22.
I was particularly interesting in how the SA players perform and rate them as follows:-
Fransie Steyn  -  3  - very poor defense and seriously attack deficientCatrakillis        -  5,5 Paul Willemse  -   8Jacques Du Plessis  -  7Bismarck         -  6,5Jannie 5,5       -    good in scrumming, but gave away penalties
Harlequins was poor up front and Montpellier dominated in that part of the game
However, it must be borne in mind that the game is played on second level of the European Club Championship - hence called the European Challenge Cup.   Not really the top of the League and therefore not really a good basis for judgement on the issue iro national selection.
