I am still worried about the Flyhalf issue

The absence of Pollard and Lambie from the Super Rugby tournament - as well as the injury has put the spotlight this year squarely on Jantjies as a potential flyhalf, but I still have some worrying problems with him. 
He has a 70% goal kicking record with some sitters being missed and his defense is seriously suspect.  He also have a tendency to make forward passes.  My question remains - will his nerves hold when he is having to play on international level?  There are still signs that it would not and that to my mind remains a problem.
Of the candidates around - Lambie will be back soon but Pollard will not be back for the June test series less than two months away.  Lambie is sorely missed by the Sharks and that is clearly evident - even in the game yesterday it was evident.  
If not Jantjies - where to next?   Insofar as the foreign-based players are concerned, Morne thus far has been poor - very poor.  Goosen in the main played as full back for Racing Metro and in his last game at 13.  However, wherever he played he was very good.  When he came from the bench at flyhalf he was top class as well.  So he remains a possibility and to be prejudiced against him is seriously delusional.  
Of the younger and less experienced flyhalfs I was impressed by Du Preez, but even more so by Jean-Luc du Plessis.  He showed ball sense and his reading of the game in the three games he played in for the Stormers he was excellent.  However, he needs some more experience and to thrust him into the Springbok team at this stage of his career will  not be advisable.
With Pollard out of contention I would with the June test series coming up - rate the candidates at flyhal f as follows:-
1  Lambie2  Goosen3  Jantjies4  Du Plessis

 Not to worry about that - I have my views and so has Dave.  I would rather have security at flyhalf - is uneasy about Jantjies who is good at times and de plorable at other times.   His defense is almost as suspect as that of Morne Steyn - a worrying factor in fact.    

The Stormers have three young promising flyhalves. 
Pollard in my mind is probably more of an inside center than a flyhalf. He is good at running, a decent playmaker- but so far he lacks a tactical kicking game. A solid defender- especially for a flyhalf
Lambie is more of a fullback. His defence is better than most of the other options. He does not get his backline running very often- and at times can be a Morne Steyn clone. Goosen has been too fragile, but he seems to be playing more often nowadays. 

His defence not good- but other than that he is an allrounder which means he does not want to do over do the kicking. 
Duplessis is looking the best at this stage. He seems like a composed player that is thinking of the various options before he acts. His boot looks like a flyhalf making solid territory gains, as well as kicking into space. 
I thought his replacement yesterday did a better job than Dupreez- who looked a bit lead footed in his first few games. 
Forgot his name but he seemed confident to take the ball flat- or run onto it full speed. He took the collisions with ease .

His name is Thompson - I saw him playing for the WP in CC and was a bit disappointed in him.  However, with the little bit of play time he got yesterday he did well.   I do not think he is on par with Du Plessis - the latter has a lot of ball sense it seems to me -  he is top class when it comes to reading of the game.  
i would not be surprised if he ends up as a potential Springbok flyhalf of the future.  Like what I saw of him in the three games he played for the Stormers.  

 Well there I have to agree with you Tokkie, du Plessis looks like a real flyhalf. I also agree with Shark that Lambie is a fullback....ALWAYS HAS BEEN.

 I'll keep it simple....anyone still questioning Jantjies credentials as a test flyhalf is either fucking stupid or rugby ignorant....take your pick Mike 

What worries me is that when he is indeed selected he could fail.    

What happened to relying on performance Tokkie...seems to me you are contradicting yourself.

There are just some things that bothers me about Jantjies - especially in some rather repetitive minor problems he has during games and can become major problems in tests. These minor problems relate in the main to defense and even his passing game.  
In general I would give him 7 to 8 out of ten for performance on Super Rugby level - but that could slip badly in tests when under pressure and the international coaches will  concentrate on the few negatives I have noted as being part of the Jantjies game.
He has improved drastically over the past two years - but he has not had any test experience for years and we will have to see how he performs on that level before an opinion can be formed either way.
