The following comments came from the Bulls website:-

"Pieter ‘Lappies’ Labuschagne has made the most tackles so far this Super Rugby season (38/39). Matt Todd and Michael Hooper are ranked equal-second with 31."

That is somewhat bad news for a player like Arno Botha - without injury a player like Arno Botha will play second fiddle to Labuschagne.

There are other advantages of having Labuschagne in the Bulls team - he makes more turnovers than any other SA no 7 and his ball protection and recovery is of paramount importance to the Bulls.

Wonder why he moved to the Bulls - could be for money, but probably bearing in mind Meyer's preference for Bulls players.

Arno Botha is a far better player than Labs, once he is fit he will be the first name on the Bulls team sheet.......and he is better suited to 8 any way

 Dave
Sorry to differ - but Arno never was a better player than Labuschagne.   If the Bulls regarded Arno  as better - why did they contract Labuschagne and pay him a very high fee?
I think that essentially Arno is a number 8 - far better than Spies.   At 7 you need to have ball protection and recovery skills as well - which is somewhat  absent in the case of Arno and very evident in the case of Labuschagne .

Mike, if Labs was better then why on earth has he not played for the Boks......let me tell you this now......a fit Arno Botha is twice the player Labs will ever be.

You also need to wake up to the fact that Botha plays 8 and Labs 7.......so the signing of Labs has stuff all to do with Botha......fact is the Bulls are short on loosies and that is the reason they signed him.

Botha is stronger, bigger, quicker and has better skills.......the guy is pure, pure class

I agree with you about Arno being a number 8.   However - he has had virtually no rugby since June 2013  and when he did come back for the one match in Super 15 earlier this year - he was on the field for very little time before being injured again.   The little time he did play this year - he showed very little so nobody knows what he would be performance-wise at present.

Who is leading the most crashballs? I thought the Bulls website would be very prominent in that regard.

Lappies is a fine provincial player. He is no international. The guy is in the later stages of his career, flanks arrive early.

I think Matfield has proven that the lighter more agile lock has a role to play in SA rugby & no Beeno I am not referring to a role as water boy

I will rather not deal with Mozart's hallucinations - he lives in a world of his own - where Willem Alberts is the only answer at 7 and useless Ouma Victoria Matfield at 5   - so what can we expect from him other than BS.

Hey Beeno...we know that you are on a diet but others are growing young men that enjoy thick steaks...ask Cloudy and Dr Win and Francois Steyn...oops sorry Frans, I believe the fish diet and sushi in Japan has got you back to athletic form
