The following from News 24:-

South African-born England batsman Kevin Pietersen has been dropped by his IPL team, the Delhi Daredevils.

According to the NDTV Sports website, Pietersen, 34, whose contract was worth around £800 000, is one of 14 players leaving the IPL franchise in a clear out following their poor season last year.

Pietersen scored 294 runs in 11 matches at an average of 29.40 as the Daredevils finished last in the standings, wining only two of their 14 matches.

Pietersen, who captained Delhi last year, is able to enter the IPL auction early next year in a bid to find a new club but is unlikely to attract such a high deal.

Delhi have also released Yuvraj Singh, Ross Taylor, Dinesh Kartik and Murali Vijay, as well as South African duo Wayne Parnell and Imran Tahir.

Pietersen is currently in Australia playing for the Melbourne Stars in the Big Bash. His county future is uncertain, too, after his registration was cancelled by Surrey last year.

The IPL is where players make the BIG MONEY - so I was looking at the SA PLayers to miss out.   Could only find 3 names - namely Kallis - who has taken a batting coaching job with Kolkatta and Wayne Parnell as well as Albie Morkel.
The following players have been retained by the various franchises:-
Sunrisers Hyderabad

Dale Steyn
Chennai Super Kings

Faf du Plessis
Delhi Daredevils

Quinton de KockRillee RossouwJP Duminy
Kolkata Knight Riders

Morne Morkel
Kings XI Punjab

David Miller
Royal Challengers Bangalore

AB de Villiers
As I understand the system - the players who have been released can be bid on during the bidding phase - also those who has not been released, but in the latter case the clubs have the right to match any bid made by any other club and  thus retain the players concerned. .
I believe the asking price for players like AB and  Dale  is way above $1 100  000  for the 8 week tournament,  while  Morne and Fa is in the  $700 000 to $ 1 000 000 range and the rest are basically in the  $400 000 to $600 000 range.
Amla did not make hilsef available for the tournament.  It would be interesting to see which SA players will be contracted this year.     This is the tournament where players enhance their annual income to the range R11 000 000  to R15 000 000  per year.

Mike, anything to do with IPL does not constitute news, but rather gossip. Thanks for the info anyway.

We will find out in January whatthebidding process produced insofar as SA players are concerned.   I think that of the SA players - even those retained by their clubs - may fetch much higher priced than they have at present, while the following may be added to the list of players involved if they make themselves available next year:-
*   Amla*   Stiaan van Zyl*   Hendricks*   De Lange*   Delport
And all the best wishes for all for the festive season and for a very properous 2015.
