The situation is that the auction date is to be within the next week and as requested I will provide the auction info insofar as the SA players are concerned.
Insofar as the SA players is concerned, the following SA players have been retained by their clubs:-
Delhi Daredevils - Quinton de Kock,
JP Duminy
Colcatta Knight Riders - Morne Morkel
Kings 11 Punjab - David Miller
Sunrisers Hyderabad - Dale Steyn
Chennaih Super Kings - Faf du Plessis
Royal Challengers Bangalore - AB de Villiers
As I understand the situation - all the released players (other than Kallis who has retired) can be bid on by their clubs and contracted at a lower price if possible. On the other hand the contracted players retained can also be bidden on by other clubs, but their clubs retain the right to match any price achieved at the auction.
We are talking big money here - the SA players contracted by their clubs earn between $378 000 and $1 200 000 per season - ie between R4 000 000 and R12 300 000. The more expensive retained SA players at the 2014 auction were AB de Villiers ($1 200 000), Dale Steyn ($1 100 000), Faf du Plessis ($768 000) and Quinton de Kock ($583 000) - the cheapest player being JP Duminy ($378 000).
To put it into context a rugby player like Carter is contacted at the all-time high price of $1 000 000 for the full season of rugby and does not earn anymore in playing fees in the year in question. The cricket players mentioned earn the above amounts in one season of 8 weeks and for the rest of the year earn their salaries with the Proteas/ SA Franchises as well,
