The Ireland squad to tour South Africa in a 3 test series has been named . . .

Forwards: Finlay Bealham, Rory Best (c), Sean Cronin, Ultan Dillane, Tadhg Furlong, Jamie Heaslip (vc), Iain Henderson, David Kilcoyne, Jack McGrath, Jordi Murphy, Sean Reidy, Mike Ross, Quinn Roux, Rhys Ruddock, Donnacha Ryan, CJ Stander, Richardt Strauss, Devin Toner

Backs: Keith Earls, Luke Fitzgerald, Robbie Henshaw, Paddy Jackson, David Kearney, Rob Kearney, Kieran Marmion, Luke Marshall, Conor Murray, Stuart Olding, Jared Payne, Eoin Reddan, Jonathan Sexton, Andrew Trimble

Glad to see they're not resting their stars and are sending a full strength side.

This team should provide a stern test for Allister Coetzee's new-look Boks and although the Boks at home should be too strong, I don't see this Irish team being steamrollered and I won't be that surprised if they even win a test.

One thing leaving your country for professional or family reasons, another thing entirely to compete against it under dubious standards of qualification.
Reidy, Payne - NZStrauss, Stander, Roux - SA
Some comments from the Irish:
"slowly but very surely our squad is becoming the united nations of Ireland. will soon have to change the words of Irelands call to "from the four proud corners of the world""

"Heard a rumour there may have been an Irish player in the squad but must have been false."

And a contribution from Ireland's own Clevermike:
"Same old, same old from JS. Looking to the future by picking up and coming players and form players!? Boks will be blooding new and young players while we will be playing the usual suspects on reputation ,not form. Looking forward to shellacking on the hard pitches from a big Bok pack. Oh well, Ho Hum!"

It's a joke....just another example of identity loss. Your mercenaries beat our mercenaries. Who cares. This is much less seemly than the Boks playing their overseas players, so condemned by some on this site.

The Irish are clever -  they select players on the basis of performance,  Apparently Meyer is the only coach who disregarded performance and select reputation players.

No Mike, seems most of the Irish feel the same way about their coach:
"How the two Kearney brothers get in ahead of Matt Healy and Craig Gilroy is beyond belief. As for this whole Ringrose isnt ready nonsense did people ever think of spreading the point of attack of offloading of general creative backline play as running direct at them all day is meat and drink to them. He could have scythed through them along with the other two left out. Now we'll have Payne Henshaw Kearney at fullback bish bash lose by 7 points 1st test followed by wallopings in 2 and 3."

"ok, so no McCloskey... well i dont know what to say here...
and also D Karney over Craig Gilroy... again i don't see the logic in this?

But who am i to give of, after all im just someone who wants Ireland to win, and lets face it i believe Gilroy has been over looked esp when hes been producing the goods!"

"so david kearney's form is better than matt healy's.... I see."

"Seems quite contradictory to include Rob Kearney in the squad when he's been injured more often than not for the whole season While at the same time talking about players close to full fitness) and to leave Ringrose out who has actually had a lot of game time. Payne should be given a run a 15."

Pichot, the new 2nd in charge of the IRB is looking to clamp down on players playing for foreign countries......good on him.

He said he was pissed off watching a Saffa for instance singing the Irish anthem.....so ridiculously false.

He wants to extend the qualification period. Its 3 years at the moment.....make it 6

Moffie, as you know (or should know by now) I have zero interest in your idiotic and whiny rugby opinions and we all know that your childish and obnoxious behaviour causes threads to degenerate into spiteful and infantile slanging matches which tend to end up with you stamping your foot and saying things like "no, I'm not a liar, you're a liar" while your Gimps snap and snarl at anyone who disagrees with your stupid and short-sighted views.
Okay, with that in mind, is it too much to ask that you stay off threads that I start and you keep your juvenile one-upmanship for your own threads and other threads that have little or nothing to do with rugby and more to do with you proving what a petulant little child you are?
I mean that in the nicest possible way. Now please go squeal somewhere else for someone else's attention . Thanks in anticipation.

Good old Moffie who told us all how crap CJ Stander was....the same guy who won Munster player of the year, won man of the match on test debut and to cap it all won Ireland player of the year
And this stupid prick is still foolish enough to carry on telling us how poor CJ is
Its the most ignorant rugby call I have EVER heard......but hardly surprising coming from this childish prejudicial prick
Just to rub a little more salt in the wound....another SA player he kept poking fun at has made the Ireland squad.....good old Quinn Roux

Dave I know you just love Stumpkar, and so do the Irish. Man the hyperbole that went along with everything he did was epic. Can't quite figure out why, but the hype was undeniable.
The truth was apparent against the Poms when he was reduced to being Vunipola's mat. But then they played some more powder puff packs and the hype started again.
Stumpkar as the name suggests is just a crash ball runner, who doesn't break tackles and doesn't offload. He can serve a narrow purpose....but I thought you were in favour of exiting the mindless bashing.
A myth that will implode.

Knowing the Irish, the degradation and bas tardisation of Irish rugby is very unfortunate and most Irishmen will feel the same way I surmise...stampkar rugby is also a myth...so is to win at a cost of pride and national feeling is a dillusion...I agree with Pichot.

National pride in sport is slowly eroding...talented players in SA are being lost thanks to birdbrain politicians in our unfortunate country and to be fair who can blame them...a man's priorities vest in his future, his family and other responsibilities and nobody with any sanity can dispute this but the saddest sting of all it has it's costs...the cost of national pride...playing for country is the highest accolade of all. This is a massive clap in the face of many a patriot...especially Irish and perhaps even the Welsh as well.

England rugby of course has long ago lost this pride due to invasion and so has France and this is very sad.

One thing about SA and NZ rugby is that there is almost 100% representation in their sides.

Nevertheless looking very forward to the Irish tour and it will run close I believe.

CJ Stander is an Irish citizen ... why shouldn't he play for his national side?

He's a class act and definitely g ood enough.
Good luck to him ... hope he has a cracker tour against the Goats.

Correction CC CJ is NOW an Irish citizen but he is a SA at heart and yes a very talented player. One can only wonder how even better he would feel playing for his own country.

Nobody can answer that question except himself in the deepest recesses of his heart but yes he did what any responsible person would do.

Kevin Petersen, an old boy from my old school...never liked him though but he did what he had to do and became unpopular...Clyde Rathbone the son in law of a friend left to play for the Brumbies and Oz...he was unpopular but he was a very likeable guy and did what he had to do.

Our administrators and bedeviled and racist politicians (apartheid with reverse colours) are to blame...this is the saddest twist of all...how corrupt policies de termine a man's choices...it is not true freedom.

Indeed Sebastien ... still ... he is a citizen of that country and has every right to play for them.
Many would rather have had him remain here ... be patriotic ... show his loyalty to a country that doesn't want him ... have him rot with the many others that'll never be given a fair shake.
Meyer told Mr Stander that he was too small and would never amount to much at test level. Mozart agrees. Then again, he rates Pienaar as our best scrummie.
Now we're to face this insignificant little man ... probably with our quotas ...
You can guess who I'll be cheering for ...

This is amazing - Mozart left SA and worked in the USA.  Stander cannot leave and play rugby for his new country  where he gained citizenship.  What is good for the goose is not good for the gander.
Meye r was a fool - he preferred Willem the Fat Alberts to Stander.

Mozart has made it abundantly clear that he doesn't know his arse from his elbow ... and that's on the most lucid of days.
He's a pompous ass and has nothing positive to say about any of the young talent we have available.

All this stems from bitterness ... bitterness that he's an old man.
He made his name tottie last season ... and the season before that ... and it seems he's determined to have us laugh at him for another year.
The poor dear's fcuked in the head.

Judging from USA politics anything is possible in USA...illegal immigrant with false birth certificate becomes president O' Barmy after  president Bush who was a member of the "skull and bones" society who claimed to be a born again christian and now a boasting megalomaniac that has a comb-over that Beeno wants as president...LOL

Maybe even our Beeno's tru m pet eliminator Borado could become president...will dose the electorate with valium?

As Rooinek observed Borado, was able to sabotage Beenos tr um pet with an overdose of his wares much to the relief of Wardad and our Kiwi doctor friend whose a secret agent in Poland

Moz we are not talking about you and your accolades...you are worthy of your citizenship but the insanity of an illegal fraudent imposter O Barmy becoming a leader of your resident country...in the old days such a felony would have been legally hamstrung...

Expungement

For state law convictions, expungement is determined by the law of the state. Many states do not allow expungement, regardless of the offense, though felons can seek pardons and clemency, including restoration of rights.[citation needed]

Federal law does not have any provisions for persons convicted of federal felonies in a federal United States district court to apply to have their record expunged. While the pending Second Chance Act[dated info] would change this if enacted, at present the only relief that an individual prosecuted in federal court may receive is a Presidential Pardon, which does not expunge the conviction, but rather grants relief from the civil disabilities that stem from it.[19]

Actually the whole of the 6N panel and media like CJ as they selected him as the best blindside of the 6Ns. That was not an Irish call but a 6N one.
CJ outplayed his opposite number Robshaw against England. Billy played in a completely different position and was by far the best loosie on the field followed by CJ.
CJ would walk the Bok side as our 8 right now

The Irish media went on with their over the top Stumpkar love fest. The English media was much more balanced. This from the Guardian who do a good job on rugby:

CJ Stander 5/10 He failed to make the impact that he did against Wales, when he made so many carries, and was outshone by the English back row.

Chris Robshaw 7/10 The former captain got through a ton of work and made a telling pass for Watson’s try. Also got stronger as the game progressed.

So no Stumpkar and his predictable bashing up the middle is not appreciated by everybody. And no, he would not replace Vermeulen, he isn't half the player. One gets tired of the juvenile bs.

Well I only need to list the stats for that game to prove CJ was better than Robshaw....those player ratings are rubbish and clearly show favour towards the winning side.
If Robshaw had outplayed CJ in that game Robshaw would have been chosen as the 6Ns blindside

 The Belfast Times
CJ Stander: Threw himself into everything. 6

CHRIS ROBSHAW: Showed vision and a neat pass to tee-up Watson's try. 6

Much of a muchness. He had a good  match against Wales...and a decent first half against Scotland targeting a puny Scottish flank. That won't happen against the Bok, no matter who we play.
I can't see how his physical,  straight ahead style can trouble the Boks.

Well ... we'll soon see how well he fares against Coestzee's Goats ...
Stander impressed all who watched him play locally.
He's done the same abroad ... again and again ... and ends up winning top honours.
I know of a host of people who were extremely annoyed when Meyer dismissed him as an non entity ... but then again we all saw how the very same Meyer led the Goats to a humiliating defeat against Japan ...

Look forward to the contest ... and the many excuses Mozart's will have ready ... should be good for a laugh.

Moz you just don't grasp the role of a blindside do you?
It's no different to what Alberts did for the Boks or the likes of Kirsten for the Bulls or du Preez for the Sharks right now.
Big guys carrying it up in traffic drawing defenders in setting up multiple phases....its what the coach wants them to do its the role of a blindside.
He played 8 for Munster where his role was different and where you see the expansive CJ.....the kind of running and stepping he showed in that brilliant try he scored which I linked on here.
Your take exposes your rugby ignorance. You don't seem to know the difference between a 6, 7 and 8

Well if he is JC Jekyll and CJ Hyde and you are telling me JC Jekyll   is brilliant.....maybe. But I'm commenting on his CJ Hyde role in tests....straightforward bashing at a very low metres per carry pace. I understand the blindside is the tough yards man.....but hell, how about an occasional offload, or clean break......even just breaking a tackle a match.
A plodder in Mr Hyde mode.......Dr Jekyll who knows?

You really are ignorant...there is no other way to operate in traffic other than the straight route. It's his role hello and how many more times do I need to point out that his metres per carry are exactly the same as every other 7 out there or lock for that matter....go check Eben's metres per carry and try tell me they are any better than CJ'S.
I'm actually astounded you just can't grasp the difference between a 7 and 8....nor work out that no forward is going to gain much more than a metre per carry operating in traffic....its pretty bloody obvious why.
Your childish prejudice gets the better of you sadly....why on earth you can't grasp the basics is beyond me

It's rugby and there are sometimes  less difference between a 7 and 8 than 4 and 5.  It's all about ballance. Players have to compliment each other etc. Some 4's make good blind sides. Some 5's can play 8 and some 7's make decent 8's. The difference is not always in the position,  but rather the players, and by extention the team of players and the smaller combinations within that team.
