No, at least judging by his performance yesterday. The back three have to take a lot of responsibility for the poor defence. When you watch the Aussie breaks through the middle, Fassi is nowhere on most of the tries. Totally out of place, like a ghost that never existed.

I did not see much cover defence from Edwin either, or loose forwards once the line was breached. A least when Willemse got onto the pitch, he was in the right spot, even though he missed tackles.

Good observation, it was as if there was nothing behind the first line of defense. Not sure what the plan is, but guys like Skinstad, big Joe and Vermeulen in his younger days also provided cover. As should the blindside wing.

He was there with the breakout at 32:16 to force Kellaway to pass to Wright. Arendse covered from over on the left as well.

With the breakout 50:30 he is also there to force McDermott to kick over him. Arendse again comes over in cover from the left to make a try saver on Jorgenson.

Our narrow defense is causing these problems because they get the ball wide of the wing, which means the fullback has to come in to pressure the carrier leaving nothing in cover behind apart from stellar work by someone like Arendse.

You have to wonder if someone like Mapimpi would have covered that well, because that was basically two try saving interventions off his wing by Arendse.

I pointed out on another string that Fassi hasn’t been at his best this year and Dave had a blood pressure explosion. But Erasmus’ post match comments specifically mentioned the lack of form of Fassi and Willemse. We still don’t have a proven Willie replacement.

Yep he's definitely not where he should be in terms of form. A shadow of last year's player.

Trad’s a nice chap, just a little confused. That’s what an education in Moscow will do to you.
