Is the evaluation of Player performances by Commentatnors and Journalists of much Value

I am rather baffled by the tendency of members to constantly post comments of Journalists and Commentators as to player performance assessments on this site and then claim that their comments are the alpha and omega of player performance assessments.

I am aware that the New Zealand Harold is running a team selection process in which leading rugby writers and commentators participate.   If their points in that competition is borne in mind - there valuation of players is not much to write home about.

Now to put that in perspective -  I am no 10 on the list of point-scorers in that same competition with a point allocation of 1 661 points.   

I think most Commentators and Jounalists suffer from the dreaded Mozart disease - they all are one-incident junkies turning one incident in a match into  a whole description of what a player is  worth and totally forget about the rest of his performances.
