In a classic case a Federal judge rejected a multi billion dollar offer to settle the baby powder case. The plaintiffs voted for J&J’s offer 88% to 12% who rejected.
This very dubious case based on stats the company calls wrong (and I believe them this was weaponized statistics), has gone on for years. How much damage has it caused in inhibiting the company from pushing the frontiers of medicine. For those who don’t know it’s the baby powder causes cancer claim.
So now the company will fight each case and win, the plaintive will get nothing and the judge will become famous or notorious, which was probably the objective.
America celebrates its legal system, but judges are just human beings…..\spare a thought for the plaintives. These are all people who have suffered from cancer, caused by baby powder or not. Here they had a chance for a little money to make their lives better, and this man chooses to give them a lottery ticket with a low probability of getting anything. How many plans were crushed by this decision.
