The following from News 24:-
"The Rugby Football Union on Friday refused to comment on reports they were holding talks with Jake White over becoming England's new coach after the South African insisted he could win England the Rugby World Cup.

White coached the Springboks to World Cup glory in 2007 and his name was mentioned for the England job when RFU chief executive Ian Ritchie said that a coach of "proven international experience" was required to succeed Stuart Lancaster, whose time in office came to an end on Wednesday after a dismal World Cup campaign.

White, 52, has twice been overlooked for the job by the RFU, when Martin Johnson took control in 2008 and when Lancaster was handed the reins in 2012.


He is currently coach of Montpellier and after the French club were thrashed 41-18 on Thursday in the European Challenge Cup by Harlequins - whose Stoop ground is a stone's throw from the RFU's Twickenham headquarters - reports appeared that officials would hold talks with White on Friday.


That led to the RFU telling AFP it would "not confirm or deny" the reports.   White was emphatic in his desire to take on the England job after Thursday's match - but said it had to be on the basis of him being approached rather than entering into another interview process.

"I can win the World Cup for England. I would never be saying that I was keen on the job if I did not believe I could do it," said White.

"I have not been approached by anyone, everything is just speculation.

"If you are the right man for the job there should be no process. If they believe you are the right guy, that gives coaches confidence."


Meanwhile, Harlequins coach Conor O'Shea urged England to get all their World Cup frustrations out into the open after their group-stage departure saw them suffer the earliest exit from the tournament of any host nation.


Harlequins fullback Mike Brown said he no longer trusted some of his England colleagues after a series of stories, including reports that players lost large sums of money as a result of share tips from kit man Dave Tennison - were leaked into the public arena.


"If you don't get the crap out onto the table you will never move on," said O'Shea.

"Mike Brown was 100 percent right to say what he did. I wish a lot of people would say what they feel."


Australia's Eddie Jones and New Zealand's Wayne Smith, also touted as possible successors to Lancaster, have both ruled themselves out of contention.

Jones, who guided his native Australia to a 2003 final where they were beaten by England and oversaw Japan's impressive 2015 campaign that included a shock defeat of the Springboks, said he had no intention of quitting the Stormers after taking over as coach of the South African club this week.


And Smith, a member of the backroom staff that helped the All Blacks win this year's World Cup, said he planned to take a break from rugby next year."


The real joke is that White believes he can coach England into winning the next WC - while he is clearly flopping at Montpellier.  Two massive losses in two weeks is just an indication of White's coaching ability at Montpellier 


Montpellier will be as eager to get rid of him as coach as the Sharks were after his divisive stint with them.

Well, so what...it's a free world...let him have a go at it and good wishes to him...maybe England will suit his style or his style might suit England.

Don't think Becs will be happy

I used to like him but lost respect in the last couple of years...he's a me-first personality and I clash and don't like self-centred and selfish personalities but he does have strengths and is no fool in strategy.

 Yes his clash with lazy players at the sharks and the hapless lardy John who is doing so well for the shaks sure point to Jake being a loser. Fancy they got to the semis under Jake's brief tenure but where have they got since. bwhahahahahahahahaAs for montpellier its very early days. Success or even failure so early on are no  certain judgement re the coach.

With respect - your story about lazy players is based on tripe written by Keo.   Keo wanted to cover up the deficiencies of White coming up with that tale.  
I really have no problem with White as coach if he coach a team I do not support.   The problem with White is he is hidebound - just like Meyer.  He had his favourite players and that caused havoc in the team - so most players just refuied to re-sign contracts with the Sharks as long as White remains as coach.
The whole issue relates to what playing strategy White uses.   Like Meyer he has no knowledge of backline play and unless he has a strong backline coach - the whole strategy flops.

"Former England flyhalf Stuart Barnes has urged his country’s rugby bosses not to appoint Jake White as new head coach.  White, who currently coaches French Top 14 club Montpellier, is the bookmakers’ favourite to replace Stuart Lancaster.

However, Barnes - nowadays a well-known rugby commentator - has urged England's Rugby Football Union to opt for a different coach.


In his latest column for The Times, Barnes said New Zealand duo Ian Foster and Dave Rennie are better suited for the role.   “For England to fine-tune their game they must raid New Zealand, the country that understands what makes great teams (and attractive ones) more than any other," Barnes wrote.


White led the Springboks to the Rugby World Cup title in 2007 and while Barnes admits the former Bok, Brumbies and Sharks coach comes with strong credentials, he says his "boring" style has failed to progress in the eight years since that success in Paris.

"The Brumbies were one of the great attacking teams of southern hemisphere rugby until

I think the same point si being raised.  White is a protagonist of "stampkar rugby"  with the backline not being important at all.  In cases where he has a strong personality backline coach things go better (eg Eddie Jones in 2012 and Larkham at the Brumbies)   - but will that happen in the case of England.  


The style of rugby and game plan of White is the death of competitiveness and I do not think that has a future in rugby.

Jake's Montpellier make it six in a row Paris - Montpellier shrugged off torrential rain to defeat Brive 19-3 on Friday as a sixth successive Top 14 victory took Jake White's team into second spot in the table.

With conditions making handling and running rugby hard to master, it was always unlikely that Montpellier would be repeating their recent form which had seen them rack up 100 points in the last two games

The victory allowed Montpellier to close the gap on leaders Clermont to just two points.


Clermont host third-placed Toulon, who are five points off the lead, on Sunday.

Well Mike looks like a fool, but that's a given. He is joined by other serial  Jake White bashers  like  RooiAAS and Dave. Egg all round. It brings back the funny sequence last year when the AAS was telling us how great the Sharks were going to be without Jake, followed by 5 Shark losses in a row...hahaha.

So what?  White is a problem for teams he coaches because of two aspects - his favourtism iro certain players dividing teams from within and his total lack of ability to coach backlines.   That was what cost him his job at the Sharks.
Montpellier did well when the other teams in France was without their best players as a result of international duty and in the main facing poor teams from other franchises or the weakest Top 14 teams.  In a recent win over Racing Metro it was clearly the second team of the latter club who played in that game.  
It is clear that Racing Metro is saving ts best players for the European Cup quarterfinals next week and they will be a difficult team to beat with their trongest combinations coming up.   
As for Montpellier - they should be in the European Cup next season and that is where the real issue about White's coaching will become clear.

 @Ou Maaikie. Even though you do seem to be watching a bit more French rugby these days, you still do not fully understand the way things work within the set-up.

First of all, you do not have this BS where the tail (players) wagging the dog like they have been doing at the Sharks. A coach only gets fired when he doesn't produce. The players, on the other hand, do not get treated like prima donnas like the Du Plessis' at the the Sharks. It is a matter of FIFO - Fit In or F*ck Off for the players. The French clubs have no issue to offload a prima donna player, or one who is not making it. They know that there are loads of players who are able  and willing to play and they know that they have the finances to get the best. A player is there to fit in at the club and it is not for the club to adapt to a player.

Remember when DM's coach "kicked" Johan Goosen's backside in public? Can you remember our argument. You were looking for excuses and some rubbished the coach for clipping his eras in public. I told you that that was a clear message to Goosen. "You do your job and you play or otherwise..............". I then said that the outcome would be one of two things. Goosen would get his arse in gear and produce the rugby that he can or he would be released prematurely. Goosen went with the the first option and what happened? He has seen relatively much more game-time and  more starts than in his previous seasons. He has now seen himself as a regular starter at FB with the odd move to flyhalf during the game. That is the nam of the game in Top14. You do your job as player and a club member and you survive or you try and wag the dog and you're out.

Jake White has the power of the club management and owners behind him. As long as he produces, he is safe. The players gets paid enormous salaries and they have great fringe benefits and the know to toe the line.

I can give you another example. Leigh Halfpenny and Toulon. Toulon did not hesitate to tell Leigh Halfpenny that they cannot keep on carrying him through one injury after the other, and that was made public as well. Fortunately for him, his streak of bad luck with injuries came to an end and he could stay.

 The BSting liar at it again.  He quotes the standard BS about the Sharks and BS again and attacks the Sharks establishment because they dare to ask White to leave or they will fore him.
The reason why the Sharks asked White to leave was not only the issue with the players - it went much wider than that.  White had antagonized not only the players - but also of the public.   In the case of the latter they stayed away from Sharks matches because of the atrocious and out-of-date and dumb game plan White insisted upon and the Sharks finances struggled as a result.  White has alays ben clueles about backline play and for him the function of the flyhalf was to kick away balls and for the inside center to crashball.   That was the main reason for the insistence on his departure.
The player issue was also important.  White had one favourite in the team and he had a free licence to carry tales back to him about players.  He buggered up constantly and other players got the blame for the bugger-ups - in other words White caused widespread dissension among the players.  Nobody could blame the players to refuse signing contracts under those conditions.
Then there is the Goosen issue - the problem had ZERO to do with performance issue - but with the slow progress Goosen was making in learning to speak French.  If it had anything to do with player performance - like our village idiot implies - Racing Metro would have agreed with the request to release him from the rest of his contract.   He is dredging up this argument that went public more than a year ago as an issue to base his argument on.    
If this argument of the dolt is true - why is the useless Willem Alberts not sent packing by Stade Francais - or why did the same club renew their contract with Morne Steyn.  Nothing public has been said about the latter - but it could be no surprise in the contract renewal is accompanied by a serious cut in income.  The Stade francais bench player is desperate for any contract - nobody else wants him - not even any franchise in SA.

Another of your fantasies. I have quoted that report so many times it isn't even funny. The coach' entire issue was about Goosen's training and on-field performances and then he also mentioned the French lessons  at the end. Fact is that you cannot deny the fact that Goosen got his ducks in a row and he is reaping the rewards. My message, when I brought up the Goosen/RM issue, was to indicate to you how it work s in French domestic rugby. The player fits in with the club or he p1sses off. Not the other way round.

You just cannot get over the humiliation of the egg that landed on your face when you predicted that MS would not last at Stade Francais, can you? Why would they get rid of a  player who produced the goods the moment that they pressed his button, by helping them not only secure a place in the play-offs and the semi-final and eventually winning the Top14 title. As for Alberts. It is his first season at the club. The French clubs gives every player a fair chance to find their feet. If Alberts do not perform to their expectation, he will be history. You can bank on that. In the meantime, he will get his fair chance like any other Top14 player. Just like the chances that Boudjelal gave Leigh Halfpenny at Toulon, like Goosen got from Racing Metro, like Ma'a Nonu (who also did not come out, all guns blazing) got from Toulon, etc, etc.

 He won't debate the issue at all - he is a weird idiot that one.  The facts and reasons for the departure of White was clear and he disputes it based on zero information that is generally known yet he would not debate it since it is not part of his idiocy.  The issue of Fransie is generally known as well.   None of the SA franchises would have him because he was a disaster in Super Rugby - but White rushed in to get him for Montpellier.   
He completely missed out on how Steyn embraced White when he was benched in one game and the fact that the reason for the players refusing to renew their contracts with the Sharks centers around that one.  He was doing the same thing that Matfield did in the case of Ludeke - backstabbing the players and licking the coaches backside to enhance his own interests.   The other players were constantly blamed when the real deficient player was Steyn who was put on a pedestal by White.

I did not go ballistic about the Goosen issue. I was having a laugh about it and you crapped yourself. Why? Because it poured k@k on your prediction on how Goosen was going to rule the roost at RM and how he was going to step up and replace Johhny Se.xton.

His performances was utterly crap at times. I have shown you the clip where the commentators were mocking him, saying that his play was not the way to score points in estabelishing himself as the go-to flyhalf for the club. The language matter was a side-issue, mate. He did not perform, not as a flyhalf in any case, and that was the bottom line. He is a much different player for RM in this season than what he was in previous seasons.

 Ag balls as per normal.  Those articles was put on this site at the time.  As to Matfield his release was discussed at the time in the media  and the reason given was that he was disrupting the team spirit and was telling tales about players to Ludeke.  I do not have to look for info - it was all over the site at the time and ignored by you because it was hate stories.
And you came with a story about Matfield losing money because he was done in by a mythical friend - the article did not go further, but Matfield did not sue the friend to recover the loss - because it was a myth to cover how he really lost the money.  Are you too stupid to realize that - doffies?

I did not come up with any stories about Matfield losing money mate. It was an article where Matfield was actually warning players to tread carefully when it comes to their finances. He then gave an example about how he lost some money through a business deal that went south. There is nothing sinister about that. People loose money through business deals every day. You make it sound as  if Matfield was some kind of conniving criminal stooge. Some of the biggest business people have lost money.

Peter Jones, a well-known British self-made millionaire makes no secret about money that he has lost. In fact, just like Matfield has done in this case, he uses it in examples when speaking to people about finance and business.  In fact, who is worth around £435M has had quite a few knock-downs in his life. At 22 he was living his dream with expensive cars, a house, etc. At 30 he was sleeping on a mattress on the floor of his office.

He is not the only one. You can look at Richard Branson's failures and successes. Like Jones, he is also not ashamed of his failures. In fact, he also uses it as a way to show  people that there is no shame in failure.

The only people who never fails are those who does fark all.

*   that relationship between some present squad members and Matfield were poor;
*   that Matfield was deeply unpopular in the Bulls set up because he was carrying stories about players to Ludeke.  
he undermined Smit when he was captain and is a character that enhances his own interests ahead of the interests of the team - so it must have come as a shock to him when told by Meyer that he is being considered to play from the bench on Saturday,

 This drol fails to understand anything.  Just go back to the Super 15 game between the Bulls and Sharks last year and witness the tiff between Bismarck and Matfield an d the result of that tiff,  Also watch the Japan test in the WC - where there was a misrerable tiff -  Bismarck telling him to FO - which resulted in Bismarck being left out of the succeeding test and only returning when Matfield was injured and not playing.   You apparently also missed the resultant news reports.
